Having touted a rather vague 'summer 2024' release window since its announcement in December of last year, we're glad to see that Visions of Mana now has a confirmed date. It launches on the 29th August for both PS5 and PS4, and obviously hits that promised summer window after all.
What's more, the above trailer gives us yet more gameplay footage, and the action RPG continues to look super solid. It confirms five playable party members, all of whom have unique fighting styles, and can be promoted to a range of advanced character classes as the game progresses.
Are you looking forward to Visions of Mana? Are you up for a bit of classic RPG adventuring? Dare to venture into the comments section below.

I'm really looking forward to this. Trials of Mana was a pleasant surprise for me. I played it through twice back to back, which is a rare thing for me to do.
Really looking forward to this, I thought the Trials of Mana remake was a great little game. Sometimes you just want that classic RPG whimsy, and Visions seems to have it in spades.
@Bentleyma Haha, snap!
It looks good. I suspect they were waiting for SGF to be over to see if any big hitters or competitors were launching in their target window.
I wonder if they have considered Genshin Impact's annual new continent update that seems to happen every August. This game's gameplay has big Genshin vibes albeit offline.
I'm excited for this. I've been waiting for a new entry for the Mana series and Visions is looking quite promising. Trials of Mana was such a fun action RPG and Legend of Mana is still one of my all time favorites and was happy it got HD remastered and anime adaptation.
Should one play previous Mana games or it's fine to dive into this one first?
By far the best trailer for this game. Genuinely got me excited and now it's more of a priority
The character models, mostly just the mc, still look kinda weird tho. The artwork for the box art looks better
I’m excited for this but what awful timing for release. Two weeks earlier or later would have helped a ton.
Looks really good!
@ShogunRok Looks good, looking forward to your review. Trials was a really fun little game, and who knows when we’re getting DQ12. I do still need to play Tales of Arise though, disc is just sitting there on my end table staring at me. So after that. Which is after GoW:R. Then this, if it reviews well. The graphics are a little too mobile and the voices are a little too grating but the game looks good.
I would have picked it up if it was releasing next month, but end of August is not good timing for me. Plus, it's too close to Astro Bot, which is the top priority game for me for the remainder of the year.
Yet another day one JRPG must have for me, I can't remember a year where ive bought (or plan to buy) so many great JRPG's as this year.
Looks great. Loving the music as well.
I think this deserves a couple of days off and some drinks day 1.
This has been a day 1 for me since they released the announcement trailer. Nothing since has changed my feelings on it. I'm ready for a whimsical journey to the Mana Tree!
@Czar_Khastik they're usually all stand alone but have some common themes, like the names of the elements and such. Sort of similar to Final Fantasy in that regard. It shouldn't be a problem to just start with this one though!
@ztpayne7 That's good to hear since this particular entry looks stunning. Thank you!
That was a incredible trailer.vision of mana looks promising.word up son
It feels like SE learn a lot from Trials of Mana which i think the best in the series. Hopefully this will be as good or at least closer to Trials.
@Czar_Khastik You don't have to but i still reccomend you to play Trials of Mana.
@Czar_Khastik
I'm the same as you- would love to give one of these a try but never really followed it before and this does look superb.
I normally give JRPGs a miss because I really don't like turn based combat, but this looks like it might be as good a place as any to break my duck - unless any one else can recommend one?
@PuppetMaster Thanks for the recommendation. I only played Secret of Mana a bit, but all I can remember are the constant attack misses during combat. I guess Secret is the lowest ranking Mana game? Are there any other Mana games on the PS4/5 besides these three that you would recommend (if they even exist)?
@Czar_Khastik The original Secret of Mana actually received high score compare to the remake. Sadly SE doesn't add some QoL that makes the remake more fluid / smoother to play.
About the constant misses, the trick is you shouldn't spam attack and wait until the gauge closer or reach 100% to attack where you can land bigger damage with higher accuracy. It works like a stamina gauge but a bit tiresome because normal attack without filling up the gauge will have less damage and accuracy. And some weapons like bow, spear, or whip are more suitable against flying enemies. But don't worry, Trials of Mana combat is a lot better than Secret of Mana remake.
As for other Mana games on PS4, you can try Legend of Mana HD. It has gorgeous 2D graphic like painting and the combat feels smoother than Secret of Mana. But the main selling is you have choice to shape your world where you can generate a structure and put it anywhere you want in the world map to create a land. Maybe a bit similar to Dark Cloud Georama mode?
Also, it has less linear story with multiple alternate path and party member. Oh and it has couch co-op too. I reccomend it if you're okay with 2D graphic and slow burn story.
@PuppetMaster Wow, thank you very much for the detailed explanation! That's why I like this community, you always learn something new.
You are right, I did spam attack without thinking too much about the stamina bar. That one is on me. Regardless, I didn't spend too much time on the game, which I will correct in the future.
Legend of Mana is actually the one I have as a physical PS1 disc. I bought it as a part of a larger bulk and it did standout with the graphics when I looked its cover. I don't mind 2D graphics since I also play retro games. As long as there is a good story and gameplay, I'm there. Also you made a great parallel with Dark Cloud 2, I loved the georama! It reminds me a bit of Lost Sphear where you can also shape the world a bit but not as detailed as in these other games.
I will certainly watch out for these new Mana iterations on my local second hand market and as soon as I see a good price, I'll snag them.
@Czar_Khastik Hey i'm glad i can help
I think Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana HD are pretty cheap right now. I bought Trials of Mana brand new around 20-25 bucks back in 2021/22? I'm not yet buy Legend of Mana HD though cause i own the PS1 version. But i saw second hand like 15-20 bucks somewhere on ebay/amazon.
@PuppetMaster Around 20€ per game is a good price point so I'll definitely be on the lookout. I like how you mentioned physical prices since I tend to stay away from digital most of the time.
Also, I went to the Square Enix store to see if there are any special editions for the Visions of Mana and yes there is one: the collector's edition is 220€. But I ain't payin' that kind of money for a plushie and some CDs.
@Czar_Khastik physical > digital, always :3
I learnt my lesson when SE suddenly removed Chaos Rings 1 from PS store and it was disappeared from my download list too. I bought it for 10 bucks and i really like the game. But now i can't replay it anymore cause it's completely gone to the shadow realm since it doesn't have physical release. sigh...
@PuppetMaster Wait, it is also gone from your download list? I didn't know that is possible. I mean, from the technical point of view, sure, it's possible. But from a legal standpoint, how can that be legit?
I bought some games which were removed from PSN in the meantime, but I can still download them (or can I, I must check). Well thanks for the heads up, I will keep this in mind and continue to download games (to my PS3 at least) since the download list can't be trusted.
@Czar_Khastik Yup, it's gone from my download list. I keep scrolling down from top to bottom over and over and it's gone. I heard the license was expired and SE doesn't want to renew anymore. I don't know if that was illegal or not though. But even if it's illegal, we all know these big companies will be free to do their BS.
"I will keep this in mind and continue to download games (to my PS3 at least) since the download list can't be trusted"
Yes 100%. You should recheck your download list and redownload all your PS3 / PSP / Vita games. We don't know when Sony gonna shut down PS3 and Vita store or when these greedy af companies took down their games from the store and our download list too.
Just look at what R* did with PS2 classic of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas for PS4 store. They delisted all of them after they released that garbage definitive edition. Although, last time i check they still not delisted the ones in PS3 store.
@PuppetMaster I'm actually starting to build a small but essential game/DLC library for my PSP/Vita/PS3 because some of those physical game prices are insane. Then again, if I purchase everything I want I'm looking at around 200€ for sure. But if I start building the library now and slowly purchase games until the end of the year, it will be a lesser blow on my wallet. The old stores are for sure going down so we better stock up on those titles and download them while we can. (And yes, I'm aware CFW is also an option but I want to have original hardware and software as long as I can)
You made me check if my GTA original trilogy is stil in my download list. Fortunately it is. I think a similar thing happened to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, it can't be bought anymore.
The all-digital future is not looking bright, at least in my opinion. But it's always nice to meet people like you who like their physical media
