Fans and critics alike went equally feral for Amazon's adaptation of the legendary WRPG franchise, Fallout. The series managed to break through to mainstream audiences outside the realm of games, garnering significant industry attention and, subsequently, has been nominated for no less than 16 Emmy awards, including Best Actor and Outstanding Drama Series.
Eurogamer has been keeping track, and with all the votes now tallied, Fallout comes in fifth in terms of overall nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards, hosted by the US Academy of Television Arts & Sciences; Shogun leads the pack with 25, followed by The Bear with 23, Only Murders in the Building with 21, and True Detective: Night Country at 19.
Surprising no one, Walton Goggins is up for Best Actor for his role as The Ghoul, a genuinely compelling performance. While games will always remain our preferred medium, it's quite lovely to live in a world where gaming adaptations don't have to be terrible, and we're eagerly awaiting the shows next season.
Are you surprised by the mainstream success of Amazon's take on Fallout? Has the curse of the video game adaptation finally been broken? Let us know in the comments section below.

Really annoys me that the Emmy's will happily nominate and give out awards to VG adaptions but will still act like snobs regarding "superhero" shows, Antony Starr should have had an Emmy by now for Homelander and its a joke he has yet to even be nominated.
@DennisReynolds I have to agree there, and it is absurd that AS hasn't had a win... let alone a nomination.
His portrayal of Homelander is genuinely a terrific showcase of acting - how he can flip between childish vulnerability and absolute menace is something to be seen!
I know that The Boys likes to wear its political opinions on its sleeve (moreso than ever in S4...) and wonder if this is partly to blame for the snubbing? But for sure, it is a crime this guy hasn't beeen formally recognised in that forum.
Delighted for Goggins btw, who has been a favorite actor of mine for over a decade.
Such a great adaptation! I loved The Last of Us, but it was the same story with character additions and expansions. Really well done, but it was TLoU.
Fallout was Fallout. A live version of the game with a story and characters that really worked.
@DennisReynolds I agree that he owns that role and plays Homelander pitch perfect.
Honestly I'm surprised how well this show was received. I would give it a 6/10 and I think that's generous because the last episode was so bad I regretted even watching it in the first place.
I would say most episodes are about a 6 or maybe a 7/10 max at a push but the last episode was a like a 4/10.
Not a fan of the games, thought the show was really good. Walton Goggins Ghoul was Boyd Crowder zombified, which is about as good as it gets.
Shogun kinda wipes the floor massively in the dramatic categories. If Anna Sawai doesn’t win then we riot.
Fallout show was great it did copy alot of the plot from the silo books though
I enjoyed watching the tv show more than playing the game. I played Fallout 3 for like 5 hours and i got bored with the gameplay despite the story are quite interesting. The tech error like bad glitches and multiple crashed gave me a lot of headache too. At least with the show i don't need to worry about it got crashed out of nowhere lol.
Season 1 was awesome, and really told a great Fallout story. Hopeful for a stronger focus on the wasteland in season 2.
@CJD87 @DennisReynolds 1000% agree. Anthony star is awesome as homelander and I can't think of anybody else who would be able to play the character. The boys is my favorite of the comic book adaptations. I was bitterly disappointed with preacher as it started off very promising and just turned to *****. Fallout was excellent and I'm looking forwards to the next series.
@nessisonett shogun definitely deserves accolades that will come it's way. The entire cast was stellar and Tadanobu Asano also had a great comedic performance (except the entire Brit soup thingy)
@CJD87 @DennisReynolds The boys is a genius show and a contemporary Watchmen imo. I'm baffled with people going offboard for it now being "too political"... the show has always been political! It's funny and troublesome that there are some viewers that are just figuring out that homelander is not the good guy in the story. What does that say!?
To a lesser extent but similarly, I didn't get why people felt so blindsided by Daenerys's development in GoT. the writing was on the wall, homelander however should have been clear day 1.
I hope the Like a Dragon and God of War series will also follow suit and surpass Fallout.
@DennisReynolds I hate the Character of Homelander. But this just proofes your point. AS is really giving the fictional character of Homelander life and his acting is spot on!
I didn’t know they invited Freddy Krueger to the set.
Too bad Animes aren't considered for the Emmy's, because Frieren would have comfortably beat all shows that are nominated now.
@MrMagic we all like different things. I thought most episodes were a 7-8 but the finale was a solid 9… because opinions
@CJD87 Especially if you saw him on Hot Ones - and how completely different he is to Homelander, even down to body language and facial expressions. I mean, sure, he's not going to be a psychopath IRL but many actors still feel the same as their characters when you see them as themselves, like RDJ, Chris Evans, Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks in many cases, even if the personalities are different.
Hope it does well. Season 4 of The Bear was a total slog, just pretension all the way.
The Boys s4 however, was boss! I tried to explain THAT scene in Tek Knights basement to my girlfriend who looked absolutely horrified! Completely agree with all the Anthony Starr love as well. He’s so good as Homelander.
Fallout is the first new show in maybe two years that I made it through, so I’m happy to see it get some nominations. I really enjoyed it, my wife enjoyed it, looking forward to the next season. My wife and I binging a show together hasn’t happened in a long time, so it honestly felt like a time machine to when we both liked TV more a little bit.
Hot take incoming but I think Fallout show is overhyped, good but overhyped, I also agree that Antony derserves all the rewards in the world for outstanding performance as Homelander
Decent show but massively overrated though I felt
@CrashBandicoat almost as though if you try to write a female character with likeability and depth without making her infallible, people will like it. The Rings of Power I won’t even watch because I love Tolkien. It’s pointless and I refuse to see it as canon.
@themightyant Yeah I'm aware people have different opinions but I feel like people's standards are getting lower.
The first episode was interesting I won't deny that but the slow motion action scene was pretty terrible. Maybe I was harsh giving the last episode a 4/10 but let's say I gave it a 6/10 and the first episode is a 7/10 then still think there's still no way this show should be getting rated as highly as it does.
Again yeah sure it's just an opinion but I feel Fallout fans have a massively inflated opinion of how good this show actually is and a lot of people who are new to it just got caught up in the hype.
Though it probably doesn't help that by the time Fallout 4 dropped I had lost interest in it as franchise so maybe I'm overly harsh but even then I still think it is clear people are being far too generous with their ratings for this show.
Edit: I also think as time goes by a lot of people opinions are going to change as well.
@MrMagic perhaps, or perhaps 16 Emmy award nominations means a lot of people, including critics, thought it was a lot better than you did. Either way no problem, it’s just opinions. Enjoy
Fallout is horrible,on par with Acolyte, standards are at all time low.
