Phasmophobia, the super-successful multiplayer horror game, has had a rough journey from PC to consoles. While it's seen its share of delays, developer Kinetic Games has now confirmed it's finally coming to PS5 later this year, "during our in-game Halloween Event".
In a community update on Steam, Kinetic says it "shared the frustration with console players" about the delayed release, but didn't want to commit to a release window until it had one it could meet. No specific date has been given, just that it'll be launching during its Halloween event, presumably narrowing things down to October.
"Once launched, all players will have access to cross-play, allowing you to play the newest version of the game with everyone, including those using VR on any platform," the post reads. Additionally, future updates will arrive day and date on all platforms, so the console versions won't be behind the PC version.
Phasmophobia is a first-person ghost hunting game, in which teams of players enter creepy locations and try to track down spirits. Using various clues from the environment (and the ghost's behaviour), you must deduce what type of ghost it is and escape before anyone falls victim to fatal supernatural encounters. It's been super popular throughout its early access phase.
The console versions were confirmed in June of last year, with a plan to release in October 2023. Unfortunately, due to a fire at the offices and other difficulties, the console port was indefinitely delayed. Now, about a year down the line, it looks like PS5 players will finally get the chance to join the party.

Finally! Gonna play the ectoplasm out of this
The PC version is plagued with issues so.....its more of a case of wait for reviews (maybe a unified system will help them better with optimisation?
I tried running the PC version in VR about 2 weeks ago with a RTX4070.......which you expect to run it decently. I could only get my fps into the low 20s (in VR) I got fed up looking for fixes in the end and decided to shelve it till a few more updates.
@Burntbreadman The non-VR version on PC runs just fine, but the VR version runs like absolute garbage, and has for years.
Sure sounds spooky!
Really can't wait to play co op in PSVR 2.
Wanted to play this for so long will definitely pick this up
I've had fun playing this flat on PC and have heard good things about the VR from a friend on PC, I'll easily get this unless I hear the port is just terrible.
Am I looking forward to this? I was a year ago. For me, that ship has now sailed.
What do they mean they didn't want to commit to a release window? They literally did last year and then delayed it while seemingly not getting anything accomplished. Without voice recognition this game is going to come and go like a fart. What a waste.
