The partnership between Fortnite video game developer Epic Games and Cybertruck manufacturer Tesla has only just begun, but already, it's proving to be a contentious pairing. Devs have taken to social media to voice their displeasure (directed mainly at billionaire truck maker Elon Musk), and fans and players are vowing to destroy the high-torque electric vehicle on sight, along with all who drive one.
Eurogamer made a note of the reaction to the release, in particular, the unusually vehement response from several Epic developers. Fortnite Festival producer Kyle Wynn noted that companies are composed of lots of people with unique perspectives and wrote: "That truck looks fucking silly, and the CEO of that company is a piece of shit." Another Epic Games developer, who has since locked their account, urged players to "destroy on sight [middle finger emoji]".
Interestingly, Epic has since revealed that the Cybertruck itself is actually a free reward, not a premium purchase, as some had surmised, and you can snag one of your own by completing a series of in-game quests before 7th August. If you're a true Tesla stan, the Cybertruck is actually a cross-game unlock with Rocket League, meaning you can catch two birds with one stone.
Are you a fan of the Cybertruck's bold, futuristic design? Does it deserve a place in Fortnite, like seemingly everything/everyone else on Earth? Let us know in the comments section below.

The minute I heard of this collab, I rolled my eyes. This has to be one of the worst collabs ever.
Who let Elon Musk design this.
@Yousef- Himself...that was the problem.
It really is a terrible collab. I resist the urge to flip off anyone I see driving this ugly monstrosity in my city.
@AdamNovice touché and too true.
Hahaha said this in the last article. We’ve spent a good decade using moralising to reach people with no empathy, when good old fashioned bullying was the way forward.
I know it’s a skin but it would had been so good if they implemented that the Cybertruck just drives awful when it goes off road like irl.
There are so many cybertrucks in my city and they are… something…
Got a lot of Fortnite fans in the comments section haha. I think it looks sweet though and I’m surprised so many people are mad about a car.
@Doctor_BK you may not be as permanently online as some of us. The car has a litany of horrific issues and is basically a cash sink for crypto bros who see it as a status symbol first. Plus Musk is a horrible person, there’s literally hours upon hours of videos, articles and podcasts detailing exactly why if you’re really interested.
I remember seeing this, never played the game but Holy Capitalism, Batman.
Maybe don’t include terrible vanity projects from the man that tanked Twitter in a day, was sued for calling a man a pedophile whilst throwing a hissy fit, and is generally a terrible Union-busting employer.
They’re so ugly.
@nessisonett my man 😂
I’m confused why are the developers upset about its inclusion if they’re the ones who included it?…
You'd have to pay me to own a Cybertruck, real or digital.
I for one can't wait to unlock this truck. It's a free reward for playing the game. I like the design of the actual truck and I have no personal problem with Elon or Tesla or anything attached to his name. Not sure what all of your personal problems are with him and this truck, but its fun to get free rewards like this no matter what they are.
It's a video game! Remember when they used to be escapes from the BS of life, now they are just another avenue to proclaim your self-righteousness and whine about contemporary politics. It's hard to find a game where there isn't some stupid Left/Right morality controversy using it as a platform. Why couldn't the Crowdstrike bug have destroyed gaming servers to save us from the idiocy, at least for a short time?!
The moral of this story: add fine prints on a partnership contract that requires a company to pay reparations if there is any public disrespect from any employee.
Regardless of who that person is, publicly insulting the CEO of a partner company should be treated as gross misconduct (emphasis on publicly, saying it internally is human nature)

@WhiteRabbit that is an amazing description of him.
@NarutosBiggestFan Anyone that says that they have no issue with Elon even after all the nasty stuff he's been outted for might say a lot about them as a person, just sayin'.
@JuiceboxMeister That's typical of this inflection point moment we're experiencing. Up until very recently, gaming was dominated by one political side, but the pendulum is swinging back, which creates maximum tension.
@NarutosBiggestFan
The only people who are upset about this are those who are strict followers of a particular political religion—people who have been trained how and what to think, rather than taking time and effort to think independently.
Politics are so charged that someone says something you so much as disagree with, and they’re “a piece of sh**.” That can happen with both sides, but the Elon Musk hate is such contradictory BS. I challenge anyone to name a single human being on this planet that is doing more for humanity than Elon Musk. Take a look at some of his companies. Tesla: Makes electric vehicles and solar energy in order to reduce oil dependency and carbon emissions and save the f*#%ing planet; Space X: Makes rockets (far better than NASA) with the goal to colonize mars and elsewhere for us to become a multi-planetary species for when earth is no longer viable for life; Neuralink: Creating brain chips to improve or even cure brain and spinal injury previously deemed untreatable—as well as, eventually, to combat the dangers of unchecked AI that the most intelligent people in the world have long feared will cause human extinction; Starlink: Provides internet to everyone no matter location, including, most importantly, locations previously incapable of receiving internet service; The Boring Company: Creates underground tunnels to reduce traffic congestion in the most crowded cities; X: Purchased to protect free speech, bc he knows free speech is among the most pivotal components of America, and dictating free speech beyond the bounds of the law is dangerous.
He also co-founded Open-AI, but it’s turned into something antithetical to his original goal for it (open source and without the goal of profit).
But people choose to ignore all these things, bc Elon disagrees with DEI or gender transitioning in children—or whatever else. Never mind that Elon rarely speaks against something without having reasonable points to support his argument, e.g. no one should be hired based on immutable characteristics like race or gender, but rather on the basis of merit and qualifications. I mean, who can reasonably argue with that? But people will continue to listen to their news sources that lie to them in the name of profit and continue to maintain a deep hatred for, and speak vitriol against, the very man who’s working beyond any other to save humanity and our planet.
I’m sure people will assume I’m some extremist to discredit me in their mind and perpetuate their confirmation bias, but the reality is that I’m an Independent who recognizes Democrats and Republicans are both corrupt and self-serving and has deep criticisms of both sides.
@BeerIsAwesome
You either know little on this topic, or you’re being entirely disingenuous. Your synopsis of that situation is very poor and unfair.
The shareholders, who own the majority of Tesla, voted on Elon’s pay package in 2018. Elon agreed to receive no pay, unless he achieved astronomical milestones, including taking Tesla from a $50bil company to a $500bil company. Next to no one expected him to be able to achieve this, but should he do so, everyone would be very happy, as they would make a lot of money from their investment.
Well, he did achieve it. And everyone was wealthier and happier and got what they were promised. But the Delaware judge did something entirely unprecedented and dissolved his compensation package. That’s not supposed to happen; the shareholders are to be the ones deciding things such as this, bc they own the company. So, as of now, Elon literally worked for free from 2018 to 2023, despite delivering on his end of the deal between him and the shareholders.
Well, Tesla shareholders did a re-vote on Elon’s 2018 comp package in 6/2024 under the requested parameters ordered by the judge, and investors voted AGAIN in favor of Elon’s package. I believe 70% voted in favor of it. Despite that, the judge hasn’t responded yet.
In light of the unprecedented nature of the Delaware judge’s ruling, the fact that she changed the rules of how public companies are meant to work in the US, and some of her connections and background, this case has been suspected to be politically motivated.
@Yousef-
You don’t have to like the Cybertruck—I didn’t, either, at first—but you do realize the Cybertruck is the most preordered vehicle in history, right? While you dislike it, there are millions who love it.
@CP2 I think you’re reading too deeply into my comment.
@Yousef-
How so, good sir (or madame)? It seemed like you were throwing Elon shade. Either way, it was meant to be a respectful reply.
