Crypt Custodian, a promising Metroidvania game from one-man developer Kyle Thompson, will release for PS5 and PS4 on 27th August 2024, it's been confirmed. Having just died, you'll play as a "mischievous" cat named Pluto, whose job it is to "clean" the afterlife. Featuring the usual hallmarks of the genre, you can see the game in action in the trailer above.
The Steam page states: "Complete puzzles, battle epic bosses, and clean your way through ruined dungeons in order to collect new upgrades and abilities. Customize your play style by mix-and-matching your upgrades, and use the abilities you collect to expand your world." Teasing an abundance of secrets, it sounds like you'll create your own path through the Metroidvania world based on the abilities you have to hand at the time. Kyle Thompson previously made Islets for Steam, with his second title seemingly acting as a bit of a spiritual successor. It got "overwhelmingly positive" reviews from users.

It's a Meowtroidvania.
It’s a contender for Plus.
Looks alot like Deaths Door.
@Ken_Kaniff thought exactly the same and let’s be honest that’s a good thing. It always amazes me that one or two guys can make great games but massive teams at professional studios churn out absolute trash.
I played the demo during a Steam Next Fest and it's a lot of fun. Can't wait for the full game.
@Boxmonkey Indie scene is the heartbeat of industry now. Like you said most of these big teams just pump out a lot of mtx filled trash.
@Ken_Kaniff loved deaths door
That’s not a “metroidvania” game… first and more importantly, it’s not a side scrolling adventure.
Next time, we’ll be calling Zelda a Metroidvania. 😑
