Back when Phantom Blade Zero was announced during a PS Showcase, many pondered whether it was even real. Well, this gameplay demo – and the fact we’ve actually played it – puts any concerns to rest: this is a legit project, running pretty steadily on PS5, and it looks decent. Yes, it’s another Soulslike coming out of China, but it has flashy character action elements that straddle the lines between Devil May Cry and Elden Ring.
In this stage demo captured by Gematsu, which gets underway at around the 17 minutes mark, you’ll see the hatted protagonist take on all kinds of fearsome foes. Enemies have a lot of health and you do need to play somewhat defensively, but once there’s an opening you’re able to unleash on your opponents with a flurry of combos. The animations are decent, and we quite like the moody atmosphere, even if we are yearning for something a little more vibrant these days.
Developer S-GAME hasn’t attached a release date to the title just yet, but we’d probably expect it in 2025. Is this a game that you’re personally looking forward to?

I'm hoping this is more forgiving than many souls likes, but it looks good and I've been much more interested since the trailer in the last SOP.
Hoping this fulfils its potential and we have another great game to enjoy....
Yeah this has had my full attention since its original reveal, looks unbelievable (in both regards 😉).
@Titntin The devs said they went out of their way to make it accessible. In their own words, they said they don't have the privilege to frustrate their players the way FromSoftware does.
This is the game I am most hyped for! Gives me proper Sekiro vibes, I thought I heard other people say this game plays more like Ninja gaiden/Stellar blade rather then Dark souls?
@Enuo Thanks for that info, really appreciated.
I'm up for challenges, but I'm getting older and you can't help reactions slowing
I'm even more looking forward to this now!
Disappointed the MC is not the female on the thumbnail. Was hoping for another Stellar Blade type game but alas.
@Icey664 You'll live.
@Icey664 You can try Wanted: Dead if you want a hack & slash game with female lead. Some not mainstream reviews said it's actually good. You can check this review if you interested.

just getting tired of soulslike games
There’s definitely oversaturation with these sorts of games. It looks decent but there’s so many similar games that it’ll be defined by how it stands against the competition.
The people who always wonder if a video game is real are just complaining for nothing.phantom blade zero looks amazing.word up son
I'm just hoping a few of these kinda samey looking games actually hit. PB0 has looked good since trailer 1 though.
@Sergo I think the term is overused more than anything. Most games called Souls-likes aren't actually really souls-likes they just have one or two mechanics from those games and are often far more arcade-like.
Similar to how many games have RPG mechanics nowadays (levelling, skill trees, loot etc.) but aren't RPG's
I find this game stands out visually because it puts so much emphasis on amazing animation. I wish more studios will finally get that ray tracing and 4k textures won't get you anywhere if your figures move like sock puppets (RoboCop f.e.)
The studio has already said its not a SoulsLike game so why are we still calling it that?
@Oram77 Did I hear Stellar Blade. That's it, I'm onboard.
@PuppetMaster
I didn't check that one out because the reviews were so negative, but I did always like the look of it. Might scratch that SB itch
@Sergo it's not soulslike
@DarianStarfrog I agree. Everything I've seen so far looks more akin to the dmc and ninja gaiden games.
@PuppetMaster I just bought it on sale for a tenner!
@Icey664 Hey cool. What's your early impression for the game?
@PuppetMaster I haven't had a chance to boot it up yet, hope to get some time with it this weekend
