This was somewhat of a foregone conclusion, but free-to-play action RPG Wuthering Waves is now officially coming to PS5. The gacha-based title launched earlier this year on PC and mobile, and developer Kuro Games has stated it's now in development for Sony's current-gen console. There's no mention of PS4.
The news comes via the game's official social channels:
Kuro Games always had plans to release on console, so this news doesn't come as a huge surprise. More recently, dataminers discovered PlayStation iconography in the game's files, and even more conclusively, Sony confirmed it'd be showing Wuthering Waves at ChinaJoy 2024.
Wuthering Waves is a super popular gacha RPG that rivals MiHoYo's Genshin Impact, which has of course been a monumental success. It's no surprise to see more of these cropping up, and PS5 has become a destination for these types of game alongside PC and mobile devices.
There's no date for the game's arrival on PS5, but hopefully it's not too far out. Are you interested in playing Wuthering Waves on PS5? Tell us in the comments section below.

Hooray, another predatory gacha game! We almost went 10 minutes without one.
@Frmknst true
@Frmknst Hooray, another cynical comment about a gacha game. We almost went 10 minutes without one. (12 minutes after the article was posted to be precise)
Look, I understand your concerns, but people are free to decide what they spend their money on themselves. There's almost nothing in these games you can't get for free, you just can't get everything in these games for free, you have to pick and choose what to focus on.
I've seen much worse models like FIFA Ultimate team, but again people are free to spend their money on that if they so wish.
Oh cool more rubbish
It's a shame there is no date. I like WuWa but the endgame (Tower of Adversity) is almost unplayable efficiently without controller support, which doesn't currently exist on mobile.
Happy that more people will be able to experience this game. It's a great game (gacha aside) with fun combat and great exploration
@themightyant And people are also free to raise concerns about games using a model that preys on those with an addictive nature in order to rinse them for as much and as long as possible.
@Ooccoo_Jr this is literally what these games are designed to do. Might be shiny and glitzy to look at but so is a fruit machine (just emphasising your point)
Wuthering Waves is really fun, I'm just not sure when I'm going to have time to play all these games.
@Ooccoo_Jr You are partly right, but ALL games are designed to be addictive. That "just one more" loop of Tetris, Hades or Vampire Survivors is the same thing the only difference is you "waste" time not money. But like money people are free to spend their time on what they want.
@TheAmbienWalrus Sorry to hear that mate, I can't speak with any authority here as it is not something I have experienced, unlike yourself. I just think it's important to point out that just because someone can in theory play these games paying very little that shouldn't excuse them because they rely on that small percentage of gamers paying way over the odds in order to sustain them.
You are quite right it is all F2P stuff, not just gacha games. And yes I certainly include Fifa like someone mentioned previously. That's even worse as it comes on the back of a full price game.
The PlayStation 5 has become
The GachaStation 5.
@themightyant How can you possibly compare Tetris, a game you pay for once and then own in its entirety forever, with a game that relies on you consistently shoveling money into it with no endpoint in order to see the whole game?
No one is complaining the gacha games are too much fun, we are complaining that the monetisation model relies on a small percentage being rinsed for all they are worth, whether they can afford it or not. It's grubby and I don't like it, same as all f2p stuff.
TheAmbienWalrus wrote:
On that we can agree. But that needs to be across the board, FIFA included. And what of games that have vastly overpriced MTX that aren't gambling but prey on FOMO and other addictive tendencies?
@Ooccoo_Jr My whole point is you DON'T need to "consistently shovel
ingmoney into it with no endpoint in order to see the whole game?" That is 100% false. I have spent exactly £0 on Wuthering Waves and, assuming nothing changes, will be able to play the entire game from start to finish without ever paying a penny. If I choose to I can spend for additional characters or weapons, but they aren't needed, i'll get around half of them for free anyway. In fact I will have spent less on WuWa than Tetris.I don't doubt that some people overspend, but the same could be said of almost ANYTHING, clothes, games, cars, etc. All consumerism could be seen as predatory, why single this out?
i'm not into this types of games but surely they have a very large fan base. Games like Genshin, Honkai and ZZZ make Sony a lot of money too.
I’m just here to angrily comment on a game I have no interest in… 🤷🏾♂️
First ZZZ, now WW, why do they love the alphabet so much?
I guess Anime no longer belongs to Japan apparently! Anyway this is more gotcha mobile rubbish, I expect a few more before the year is over.
@themightyant Don't you dare to compare this to Tetris is dumb comparison and a bad one aswell. Even the latest version on the PS4 is nothing like that it's a addictive loop with great gameplay without any form of gambling you buy what you want in forms of DLC.
@Flaming_Kaiser his point was, that games by definition are made to trigger an addiction. Tetris is no exception. The purpose of the creator might be different (even that can be argued), but the target of both games is the same area in the brain (I guess, I'm not a neurologist...).
Wished Kuro devs would support PS4 rendition because UE can be very flexible if they want it to.
There's a whole audience like me still waiting on that, waiting to jump from Pro to Pro.
Granted, it would take time and expertise for every patch porting but it should be profitable if there is ongoing demand from the get-go.
Personally, I'd still hold this opinion even when I do get a Pro.
@TheAmbienWalrus The GOTYs are coming
@themightyant After putting nearly 30 hours into ZZZ I agree I've seen way worse. I've managed to unlock 11 out of the 15 characters currently available and I've not had to spend a penny.
People act like you are:
A)Forced to download it
B)Forced to spend money on it.
@AdamNovice Exactly. While it is true the rewards slightly tail off after the beginning, you can still get the VAST majority of characters consistently over time for nothing, or very little. E.g.
This game (Wuthering Waves) has been particularly generous with rewards so far. (EDIT: 18 of 19 now)
The main thing you can’t get is all the characters AND all the best weapons, you have to pick and choose. But the reality is you don’t need them all for any content. Get who you want, you get to try them all.
It honestly feels like people are complaining about the business model without giving it a go themselves to have all the information.
The game look pretty, and all. But I have grown sick of the Breath of the Wild aesthetic the WuWa and a ton of other recent Gacha have gone for. It was cool when Genshin did it... But it now played out. ZZZ was a nice breath of fresh air. Can't wait for the next 20 something clone of that...
@mazzel His point still is bad and useless. If you go this route why not stop making games or anything like that illegal.
Gatcha, lootboxes is just peddling gambling to kids and that should make those games 18+. Just sell people the stuff and stop making money by exploiting addictions.
If you compare something do it right and don't pull some nonsense out of your ###. I knows he likes the games but if you have a point make something that is comparable.
