Things have gone a little quiet, but Sony is on the verge of launching its next big online multiplayer game. Concord, its 5v5 first-person shooter, launches very soon; the "proper" launch date is 23rd August, while those who've pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition will gain access starting on 20th August. Whichever version you've plumped for, pre-loading on PS5 is now available, so you can hit the ground running the moment your game activates.
This news comes via the PS Blog, which has also given us some new details about what to expect post-launch. With no battle passes to worry about, major updates to Concord will come every three months in the form of seasons. Season 1 begins in October, and it'll introduce a new playable character, map, character variants, cosmetics and rewards, and cinematic vignettes, as well as some quality-of-life improvements. Season 2 will follow in January, Season 3 in April and so on, with a similar lineup of new stuff to enjoy in each.
Season 1 will also see the introduction of an in-game store, where you'll be able to buy additional cosmetic items for your Freegunners. These will be the only microtransactions in the game and are purely visual. The base game includes 16 characters, 6 modes, 12 maps, and hundreds of cosmetics and rewards to unlock as you play.
You can read more details over on the PS Blog. Are you excited to dive into Concord? Fire away in the comments section below.

The Actual Roadmap: Sony throws the whole game and the team that made it in the garbage in 6 months when this flops.
@B_Lindz 6 months? That's quite optimistic.
I understand that, as a game releasing soon, this site feels obligated to report on it.
It just warms my heart to see the comments section in said posts nearly united in not caring about the game, other than to mock it.
The fact that this got the go ahead and TLOU online got canceled makes me sick.
@Victor_Meldrew i think in 6 months they're either put it in plus or make it free to play in a last ditch effort.
I wonder how much this game cost to develop and how much they paid for the studio. Resources could have definitely been used better.
I wonder if the first DLC character will be the Michelin Man
Those cosmetics they previewed are even more hideous than the character designs. I feel second-hand embarrassment for anyone willing to fork over money for those skins.
@Frmknst I mean, we can just…not buy it. That’s all it’ll take.
What do you wanna bet that 'April' season peeking out of the roadmap will stay in the drawing board?
I had to double check I Didn't preorder it!
Say hello to the Suicide Squad on your way out.
Honestly i have to give them a round of applause for trying to due everything right for this game
This Games Biggest Sin is not Being Original which like come on guys lets not pretends marvel rivals and valorant are totally original
Is a Good Game imo and that's my hill to die on
Don’t need a roadmap when the game will close down by the end of the year
I get the game doesn't look great but I'm not really sure people celebrating it's (presumed) failure is a great look tbh. Just don't buy it.
I hope it does well enough to secure Firewalk's future (and keeps its employees in post).
But I do hope that Sony gets the message that this isn't the direction that people want them to go in and pivots hard on the live service plans. I do think they are starting to realise this. Because let's be honest, Fairgame$ is likely to be received exactly the same as concord, and the dire straights that Bungie is in is also reflecting badly on Sony currently
The thing I don't understand is why is this game bashed so badly while Helldivers 2 is praised? They're both share the same business model. Fair enough if you don't like the actual gameplay, but most of the negativity I've seen is people saying they don't want an online only shooter.
Will be nice to play one of these games without the pressing need to finish a Battle Pass.
Tbh I found the game kind fun but I don't want to waste 40€ knowing the game is gonna flop in less than 6 months. I'm just gonna wait its release on PS Plus
Not interested in the game but am equally not licking my lips over the prospect of it failing like a weirdo.
@Bentleyma Because this is being made by a Sony Studio whereas HellDivers 2 was made by a third party. For some reason people hate Sony making multiplayer games themselves and think they are entitled to single player games from all their studios.
3 months tops for it to come free with ps plus
45$ isn't worth it for this game when space marines2 is right around the corner,the game art design just look unappealing and the combat isn't that unique game looks dead on arrival
What a toxic ***** hole this site is. Game isn’t even out yet and you all peddle the DOA bollocks. No wonder the games industry is going to *****, the user base is a joke.
Horrible entitled ***** the lot of you.
@Solingo_Bill “knowing”
The reason there's no Season 4 is because they know it won't get one.
@BBR
People are free to voice criticism just as you are free to ignore it. A healthy market is one that doesn't purchase every bit of garbage fed to them.
@ThatPSGamer because cosmetics are irrelevant and we should be happy to pay for them
@BBR Says the person who just created a throwaway account to moan about others.
I love how they have "Season 1: QoL updates" "Season 2: QoL updates." Isn't that basically saying that the game is clunky at launch, and they know that, and still don't plan to have that sorted by season one either?
@UltimateOtaku91 @Bentleyma No, it's because Helldivers is at least a fairly "original" (Ok, it's a Starship Troopers clone, but you don't see that every day) concept and design. This looks like a generic Disney-license-free Marvel clone as generated by AI fed a diet of nothing but Marvel and Overwatch.
@Rob_230 The short term problem for Sony is that these games cost money, took resources away from better games, and are bombing/losing money.
The long term problem for Sony is after a long period of no major games, and a spat of middling to poor failed live services, there's going to be damage to the PS brand that says PS games aren't what they used to be, and that's an image that will last much longer. They'd have done better with droughts and no releases than releasing games that tarnish their curated image revealing them to be just another publisher.
@jrt87 "71 people"
"Concord has exceeded our expectations!"
@Americansamurai1 " wonder how much this game cost to develop and how much they paid for the studio. Resources could have definitely been used better."
Less than 3.7B and they're actually shipping a game. No matter how you look at it, still a better bargain than Bungie!
Sad to see the state of Push Square. It's still my favourite gaming site, but all this negativity is getting tiresome. There are many games I don't like and I simply ignore them. Apparently, that's too hard for some people. But I get it. Bashing a game means you can take out your frustration over real issues you can't do anything about.
@naruball Eh, it's more about celebrating when the idiotic decisions of abusive, manipulative, explorative bean counting suits who are destroying an hobby we care about have their decisions, which we told them were bad, from the start, for free, blow up catastrophically in their faces, as they fail to exploit or manipulate us as intended forcing them to admit defeat and are reminded who decides the market, and it isn't them.
If this showed an ounce of creativity instead of being a focus tested factory generated checklist to meet market tested key pillars, nobody would be celebrating it blowing up on the launchpad.
Oh yeah i guess that does release soonish
I'm sticking to Overwatch 2 and Splatoon 3, thank you very much.
I'll give it a go.
It's been a while since I played an online game or online mode put out by Sony that I didn't enjoy.
@Gunnerzaurus New Gunnerzaurus challenge: Seeing a negative Concord comment and ignoring it, since people do have a right to their opinions, whether it aligns with yours or not.
@Gunnerzaurus That's cool. I often fail it myself!
@naruball Yeah peoples opinion should be what you want them to be.
@ThatPSGamer Nah, the biggest sin is the lack of a single player campaign. I guarantee the reception would be different if it had a campaign in addition to the MP.
I love the fact this is a 1st party, exclusive PS5 FPS. I would have preferred a kill zone/Socom/resistance however I still think it looks interesting and I liked the general gameplay on the beta.
It’s not the greatest game or anything but I liked it, thought it was fun enough for £35 and was interested in picking it up, smashing out a few trophies maybe the platinum and leaving it there when the next game comes along or playing it longer if it’s really decent.
The lack of interest in the beta, low numbers of players and reading the comments on sites like this puts me off and makes me cautious as I’d hate to pick it up and struggle to find games.
I hate all constant internet negativity games get nowadays. Sure it’s not perfect and it’s rough around the edges but not every game needs to be the next greatest thing or next massive tent pole game.
There’s a place for average to good games out there, they’re the sort of games that become cult classics.
Not saying concord will be a cult classic and it could be a load of rubbish (like redfall- but it’s definitely much better than that) , but the beta which I played for about 6hrs with my mate seemed ok and nowhere near as bad as the many comments and YouTube videos would have you believe.
I’ll have to wait and see I guess. It would have probably been different if there was a single player campaign mode.
@ATaco what are you criticising? It’s not even out yet!
49 comments already about a game 90% of people decided was bad based on a character vignette months ago. The discourse around this game is so toxic.
@DennisReynolds @DennisReynolds because it’s disgusting behaviour tbh, every comment section is toxic.
Your comment tells me you’re probably part of the ***** problem.
@BBR
Did you not play the betas? Do you think the game is going to be radically different? They already offered us enough there to criticize.
@naruball warranted criticism is fine. It’s healthy.
We don’t have to like every decision Sony/ms/nintendo make.
The Criticism of Concord is fully justified, especially when there is similar f2p established games that this is trying to compete with - on a more limited market - not every game is going to be a hit.
It’s much more important for Sony/gamers that Astro bot and Lego horizon are well received and supported.
There's people that hate the gameplay of the mechanics so they're offering criticism.
Then there's the people that hate the characters and the more superficial stuff that are attacking the game.
Then there's the people that hate the people that dislike the characters but they're lumping in everyone that has valid criticism in with the "haters". It's how it always goes. If you hate this game you're just a bigot, or something.
@Rob_230 im ok with Sony having some live service games. But the ones they have released have all been trash and died quick. Then they pick up this dev team a Jim Ryan special for sure and this game will add to the list of dead attempts Sony has done. Problem is Microsoft and a few others own all the top level talent making those games that are cash cows. There’s not much room for Sony left to get great talent, i thought Bungie was a smart move, i was wrong up until now at least cause they have been shaky at best. Looks like it’s back to single player which is great but it get’s harder and harder to be profitable with those games unless they fill them with $20 dollar skins and that won’t go over well. Not sure what the answer for them is.
I can't wait to play it
I do wonder which game will bomb harder this or Fairgame$ 🤔 my money is on Fairgame$ as the trailer was worst received than Suicide Squad but time will tell.
Not saying any game is entitled to anyone’s support. Sony clearly punted on a bad idea here, but considering the rampant layoffs hitting the industry, cheering on the downfall of a game knowing what that outcome means for the devs is a bit callous.
@DestructionAllstars Your username is exactly the energy this game is giving off! 🙂 ultimately Concord will suffer the same as your username although it might not last even that long!
So much hate for this game. Quite sad really, it looks pretty good I thought ? Aren’t all these kinds of games generic by now just like every other genre, done to death.
*No launch store when the game is gonna have its most players
Oh this game is gonna lose MONEY money
@NEStalgia both are probably still the worse Sony acquisition ever lol. Kind of weird that it's made up of a bunch of Bungie people.
@naruball You’re not wrong. The comment sections for a number of topics seem to turn into a solid wall of self-righteous schadenfreude in the blink of an eye. Still a few folks around with interesting things to say though!
Also, I find the Arab Strap tune Allatonceness the perfect soundtrack for reading any Concord related comment sections.
@BBR Funny because you're the one attacking and throwing insults.
@Tecinthebrain so I'll put in over 100 hours and have fun? Sounds good.
Garbage can game 🗑️
There seems to be a real desire for this game to fail from the Playstation community and I really don't understand why. It may not be your type of game and that's fair enough, just ignore it and carry on but to actively want the game to fail is unheard of. Any success the game does have van be invested back into development of other games and benefits all PlayStation gamers, I just don't understand why people are so desperate to see Concord fail.
@Kevw2006
I think the bitterness is amplified because Sony seems to be trying to push this as THE big summer game. If there was something else to play coming out around this time people would probably just ignore it but the fact that this looks like the only thing coming out in the immediate future people's anger is amplified. People are already wary about this "Live service future" Sony seems to be going all in on, they don't want the games to be terrible as well.
@Kevw2006 And Those same people want Sony to revive dormant ips hell most of them are dead because of people like this.
While I didn't much enjoy the beta, I don’t go into every article moaning about the game wishing for it to fail. But yeah, it’s so bad reading all the entitled comments here complaining because Sony isn’t making a game they want. Just get over it and move on. I don’t even think it’s constructive criticism anymore, like people claim. It’s just hate.
This is going to be a rough one. Just has no appeal. I hope them the best in their next project.
Can't wait for this game, which I mean the youtube reviews, which I think will be more entertaining than this game 😃
Good luck to them. I think the game lacks enough of a more distinct identity. Honestly even Destruction Allstars had more of an identity in the gameplay even if it's personality wasn't compelling or the price tag either.
Foamstars Square needed better mode ideas or the player hub expanded even then business model ruining the project too much.
It's like the SW Outlaws look, to me it's reputation system is so limited, like Alpha Protocol isn't much but it's decision making system and Mass Effect's are very different, Watch Dogs had cool perks/characters but the situations to use them was so limited. I'm not a Rockstar fan but realistic varied use of detection wanted system, not dialogue limited Ubisoft.
Dynamic elements then controlled basic use/scripted & unmemorable. That's my problem with modern video games. For idiots/PS3 or 360 refined but dumber. That or even sandbox survival games have more noticeable AI then Outlaws does.
Biomutant lacks compelling movesets as animals, Sims has traits, why not Biomutant, has gas immunity though and generic open world outposts/ok setting. Sims 4 is restrictive, fans mod 1-3 instead due to their better base elements then 4's restrictions or dull DLC. Sandboxes do fair AI as well. Space Station Silicon Valley the dog/cat/mouse logic and other animals is just as good in an N64 game.
Helldivers 2 even besides being a different studio that has like House Marque worked with Sony prior I think it just handles the game design/appeal better. That and the first game is what it is I see the appeal in it too.
Concord is the type of game that regardless of people and the Sony making multiplayer games mentality (or regardless of the Warhawk/Socom Confrontation (literally bought for cheap just to remember it exists, may or may not get rid of it as it is useless XD)/MAG attempts prior on PS3 many of us that know of their past attempts that worked out.
I think Concord lacks a good strong identity, it's game design is very inspired then distinct enough of a spin on what it's inspired by to make a more compelling game, the business model, the cosmetics, the game pacing/flow, the character designs, the audience it wants to attract. It knows what it wants of people's money and appeal but it isn't strong either regardless of most of us probably not being the target audience it isn't convincing to BE able to make us their target audience either. Modernising or being as popular but niche in mixed ways makes a conflicting product or a really convincing one, it depends how they handle it.
I mean as if Destruction Allstars wasn't clear enough in it's pathetic identity and appealing to an audience with no interest in vehicles like an older audience IS of a Twisted Metal or arcade/racing sim types from gens past, even if the gameplay part was good it's the personality that sucked about it. Why would young people/gens care compared to most of us older that did play them/me new to them and love them.
WipEout Rush, there are other idle games /managers on mobile & better competition/audience that wants a sequel then just Omega Collection & Redout/Fast Racing and others exist with such audiences. It's how it's handled gameplay/personality and right audience.
@Bentleyma Part of it is Helldivers execution/different studio. Also the 1st games audience not just newcomers.
Concord people have issues either because they don't want Sony to have MP games or people that do want to play it have issues with it's identity/execution of gameplay being weird. Just look at the games as they are. There are better ways to offer a multiplayer experiences than just look at the Guardians look alikes (then more compelling sci-fi universe characters of the devs own creation) Overwatch clone or other MP type format/unique one if they are creative enough to try, & with some probably fair ideas but they aren't STRONG ideas even besides the yes character designs/social values thing people will get hung up on as well of course. But the gameplay and personality is the many problem.
Also besides Astro (or any Rise of the Ronin/FF7 kind of release for PS5 owners to play).
I myself fit the 2nd one of gameplay/personality (I have no interest in the social values thing but it is still there in the game/a thing people focus on as well) & not because I want to play it either.
I think Foamstars lacks in modes by it's trailers/footage of people playing it. I wasn't interested either way but I least think it had a fair identity/lacked good ideas. I don't care for MP games but still give my 2 cents about what I think they need regardless of if the devs hear me or not.
Rocket Arena or the dodgeball one had fair ideas too and well... I don't think they lasted either so audiences are very picky/getting the game heard about enough, balancing content/interest/cosmetics/modes/core gameplay lasting long enough for people to care. It's tough.
With research at shooters/racing/platformers from old with better mechanics and competitive ideas during their trend periods of PS1-3 (with obviously changing my mind to how a modern game can apply game ideas of course) or even just Warhawk, MAG, Socom Confrontation Sony's own PS3 Multiplayer only games.
To me Destruction Allstars/others are good, yet have better identities, game design/personalty/audience broad or fair niche appeal then what Concord offers of really too close to their inspirations/not compelling enough.
Fornite may be what it is but it's how it does things, it's base building parts, it's shooting, it's crossovers/world changes but Apex has it's distinctive ideas too of it's 3 character teams among other aspects from Titanfall/what itself brings Titanfall doesn't offer. PUBG as well.
Battlebit does what people want from Battlefield as 2042 disappointed people, same with Ironsight or others for COD.
Some Indies/studios & audiences like us understand whether it's the gameplay design/crossovers/modes or whatever cosmetics & such why they are good. Identity/personality, audience appeal & core gameplay or yes story.
If they are so weak in identity why would people be interested regardless of the no interest in MP. Concord says what it says clearly.
Uncharted still has it's uniqueness from an Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider.
Destruction Allstars had an identity problem, gameplay was distinct enough just the audience of young people aren't interested in a vehicle game of it's type. Only those older or like me new to & willing to go back & play those old games.
@UltimateOtaku91 this will never make sense to me. Why do they want a publisher to only make ONE type of game, then get annoyed when said publisher only releases single player games!?
People wanted to hate on Returnal, GOW, SP2, like what do they actually want!?!?!?!!!
Hope this game fails miserably. Stop thinking we all want those stupid live service games. I hate them. Awful businessmodel. Getting less and less game for more money.
@ThatPSGamer People rather pay €70 for a expansionpack. Im not the target audience but I not going to destroy it it looked quite nice to me. The only thing I'm sad about that it's not better used with a storymode would probably have more personality then Starfield. 😆
@HonestHick "Not sure what the answer for them is."
Budgeting. It's not hard. So long as you aren't Jim Ryan.
@naruball
As the 'Official Decider of Internet Opinion' (You may bow but you don't have to), I have pre-authorized the opinion Concord will be a poor quality game in this Internet comment section. You must have missed the email I sent out.
@naruball, trying to police opinion on the internet without the proper authorizations is a grave offense. You are not allowed, you haven't taken the one week online course. This is a heavy burden we opinion police bear. Unfortunately I have no choice but to bestow the maximum penalty: you will be required to play Concord. I take no pleasure in this.
It gets no terrible roadmap that is full of lies (Overwatch 2) abandoned no seasonpass and decent monetization I'll see how it goes.
@NEStalgia you telling me ole Jimbo wasn’t good with the budgeting plans? The heck you say sir! Hahahaha
@HonestHick For years we called him the bean counter and accountant. We were wrong. We were very wrong....
It must be very tough to be a game developer nowadays. They come up with a unique art style, develop characters that have different roles & abilities but can still function individually, try to develop interesting settings for the game's world, and offer a variety of game modes & experiences for players of all interest and skill to play in ... and then just get crapped on, just because. The game isn't even out yet but the cynics' judgements have arrived.
