Remember Croc: Legend of the Gobbos? It's back! In remaster form! Yes, the cult hit PS1 platformer is officially making its long overdue return with a shiny remaster. Check out the teaser trailer above for your first glimpse at the game in action.

The game, planned for release on PC and "all the current consoles", is being brought up to date with HD visuals and a modern control scheme, replacing the 1997 original's notorious tank controls. On top of that, the remaster will include the Crocipedia, a museum mode full of concept art, design documents, animation tests, team member interviews, and more, providing lots of insight on the original game's development. It's due for release "later this year".

Developing this remaster is Argonaut Games, which has also been resurrected. Originally known as Argonaut Software, the revamped company is intended as a boutique publisher, focusing initially on reviving old Argonaut IP, Croc being the first example.

Co-CEO Gary Sheinwald teases there's more to come. "I worked closely with [Argonaut founder] Jez [San] on the design and production of Starglider, Argonaut’s first big hit back in 1986, so to take up the mantle of relaunching Argonaut Games nearly four decades later brings me full circle, and we have further exciting announcements in the pipeline in the coming months," he says.
