Update: It's official: Dragon Age: The Veilguard launches for PS5 on the 31st October. You can catch the date and a lot of brand new footage via the game's new trailer, which we've embedded above. We don't think it's a particularly amazing video, but it's a heck of a lot better than that initial reveal trailer that got everyone so riled up.

Original Story: The release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard has leaked hours before the official announcement — because of course it has. Somehow, the promised trailer popped up early, allowing fans to simply pick out the date at the end. The video's since been taken down, as you'd imagine. We'll update this article when it's officially out.
Anyway, the action RPG arrives on the spookiest day of the year: the 31st October. It's time to put that Halloween party on hold!
Previous rumours also had the game down for October. In particular, there was a leak regarding the title's official art book, which was dated for the 30th October. The assumption was that the game itself would launch alongside said book — or at least within a few days of it — and that's exactly what's happened.
Fortunately, releasing on the 31st October does give The Veilguard some room to breathe. It's a few weeks away from fellow RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio, and it drops a couple of weeks before the heavy hitter that is Assassin's Creed Shadows. It's still a fairly busy period, with the likes of Ys X: Nordics, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Life Is Strange: Double Exposure all set for late October, but we feel as though there isn't too much crossover there.

Yay one week after my birthday - Which means i wont have to save my pennies for too long 🙂
N.i.c.e and weird.usually October 31 is for horror video games.but i like the twist.dragon ave the veilguard is illmatic.its going to be a excellent game just like 2014 game of the year dragon age inquisitiona game that got the juice.word up son
Quite a lot of games out in October! I guess I can give buying things like food a miss that month.
Yeah I’ll be getting this. Gutted you can only use one character now though, I really enjoyed flitting between them during battles, just like Rebirth
I already know I won't have Metaphor done by then so it will have to wait a bit.
How about “will try it when it’s on EA play one year later?”
No groceries that month then smh
Look can we run around butt nekkid like in Baldur's Gate 3 that's what I want to know. Because it's an essential part of a modern RPG to be able to do a nudist playthrough. It just is.
That’s actually not a bad slot for a release for this, but, with so many heavy hitters in October, I’ll be waiting for a review for this one along with Silent Hill, which I’m also quite skeptical of. I expect to buy one more game from the October line-up potentially. Dragon Ball and Life is Strange may no doubt take up my gaming time for the month, but betting on AC Shadows to be my only game for November and December is unlikely. Dragon Age and Silent Hill will have to be more alluring than Metaphor… unless Gamescom dumps a lot more games on us for the rest of the year. Could happen too.
However, honestly, a wise release date suggests there may be more wisdom in total for this game than I thought before. Just a bit of good thinking does have me start to wonder if I’ve been a bit harsh…
Too many games coming out around that time, it will probably be forgotten about
Hell yeah, let's go! Pre-ordering it for both Playstation and Xbox.
But yes, launching it in October seems a bit fool hardy, even if it IS at the tail end of the month. Halfway through November or December would've been better
Great trailer, gonna preorder as a big fan of DA
Looks better than what they’ve shown so far, but going to wait a bit. Still not fully sold and other things take priority.
It's been a roller coaster following this game but I'm totally sold now! Also Morrigan looking better than ever!
This is a much better trailer than the first one. Still not vibing with the art direction yet, but that Morrigan showcase get me a lil bit hyped up for it.
Vessel of Hatred, Fantasy Life 2, Metaphor, Romancing Saga 2, YSX: Nordic, Farmagia, AC:Shadows and now Dragon Age: Veilguard. Oct-Nov is gonna be stacked.
Absolutely no reason for me to pro order. If it reviews well i shall get it at some point and if not i will have saves my time and cash. Easy decision.
Thank god this trailer sells it better. Im kinda rooting for bioware as I fear what EA will do with them if this doesnt do well.
So much to play, but I want to make time for this one in the hope bioware haven't forgot how to craft a good story with compelling characters...
I used it be such a pre-order bunni.
But since around TOTK, HFW I have stopped preordering. Not because of those two games.
nowadays it’s such a lottery especially with big AAA games or supposedly big AAA games.
I just sit back read the reviews and then decide.
Sometimes I could order straight after reviews.
But it’s more likely wait for patches and then see.
Also whilst I’m waiting the price is going down.
Will be interesting the second half of 2024 big AAA games quality is going to be.
What is also really annoying with big AAA games nowadays.
Is when the patches arrive you sometimes end with not just bug fixes, but a new performance 60fps mode and quality of life improvements.
You just end up feeling like you have paid a higher price for pre ordering and a far less quality product.
Still not feeling it, sorry.
5 days after COD releases. I know that alot of different genres are releasing around that time but i feel this needed alot more clear space. This is EA and sales are everything to them. Especially as this may decide Biowares future. I hope it does well tho i wont be buying as this doesn't seem to be for newcomers from what ive seen
"I'll be damned...
...A Griffin"
"I've never seen this before... There's something kinda exciting about iiiiit"
I think, for me and my tastes, it is just too Americanised, wooden, and full of faux-English crap for a fantasy game. Varric is probably the worst at delivering cringe lines too from what we have seen so far.
I can't stand to listen to them in the gameplay and the trailers. And it is totally immersion breaking. But I'm glad I've kind of put my finger on why it fills me with dread every time I see dragon age news.
That was a better trailer. Just need to see some combat videos/Companion info to sell me on it.
Morrigan looks interesting, I'm curious if we see her son in this game or if they just totally got rid of that kind of important plot point.
Also Harding using magic is awesome.
I was worried after they changed the name that they were going to squander the Dreadwolf' plot hook, and this trailer makes me even more worried about that.
We didn't need other villains. Dreadwolf was set up to be one of the great Bioware villains by himself.
I've been a fan since Dragon Age: Origins, which was groundbreaking.
And I can't wait to play a new game set in the world of Thedas. So yes, I will pre-order it!
Not sold on it yet, the art style of the characters in particular look odd.
They all look really smooth.
I'm a fan and I'm hoping this does turn out to be pretty good against all odds, but I won't be getting it anywhere near Day 1. Way too many games coming out the rest of the year and I still have yet to finish Inquisition. It'll probably be a blessing in the end to play this down the road, which I'm perfectly fine with.
Much better than the first trailer. Would be hard not to be better, but still.
These bioware peeps... how annoying. Bringing back Morrigan just to sucker punch us origins fans. If only i could play as my gray warden. I miss the days.
Mine is very much alive, but bioware canonicly killed him and all i get is a letter and he is mysteriously away instead of enjoying life with Morrigan and the kid.
I suppose i will have to buy it, but i will wait for a price cut.
It looks better for what it's worth. I hate the revolving door of protagonists though.
A much better trailer than the first, but the art style makes it look last gen. The Fortnight vibe is cool for a F2P or budget title, but I expected more from a AAAA EA Bioware game that's been in development for as long as it has. I haven't liked a DA since Origins, so I'll likely skip this one.
This is going to get destroyed at launch. People are already locked and loaded. Bioware is already burning so this won't help.
I dunno something about this just looks like it's gonna be a troubled development disjointed mess patched together in the home stretch to get this thing out. The game just doesn't look good. It's looks so dated and the changes to just linear and single character begs the question as to whether this is really building upon dragon age, or just bioware churning out a generic rpg with a vanilla story using the nostalgia of dragon age world and characters to Hopefully garner sales.
I hope I'm wrong, and bioware redeems itself. However I would be more surprised by that than it being a mediocre 5-6/10 endeavor. I really hope they start explaining structure and showing gameplay elements beyond that tailored bit they have already showed.
Myself no as not my thing personally, others I know excited for it are ready.
I think it has to strike well. The art style doesn't bother, the social factors that's whatever, Bioware surviving, the EA hate even though it's related to other series/business practices, people need to just focus better.
Also compared to the other games and no care for a realistic artstyle fine with a cartoony one at all. Maybe just lighting. Prefer distinct games instead.
Plenty of other realistic artstyles. Plenty of other games with next gen ideas (next gen is not only visuals/ray tracing it can be using the hardware, gameplay, controller or anything else).
Bringing characters back is hmm unless they have enough valid purpose in the game just ridiculous baiting I think.
It's a world that has so much great about it and the angle they have set up is intriguing but how they land it is the main question.
Gameplay seems fair.
Dialogue choices will see.
I think they tried to make it more focused and less open spaces, the odd ones sure but more newcomer in gameplay but more veterans for story or maybe just try to be a sequel to Inquisition story wise but still possible to be for newcomers and may or may not have a 'story so far' kind of thing maybe or just go eh it doesn't matter just play regardless, who knows.
Ratchet Rift Apart while a different case was a return yet of course had 2016 players able to get into it. It was mostly multiverse anyway and good for fans if they are open to the references/cameos/alternate takes of the prior games but can go in open minded with it. Unless hated the gameplay being weird or story like I did because I've seen better and as an old fan have played better.
But studios will do that try to be like yeah it may be a 4th or a 3rd or whatever time gap or whatever next starting point but still possible because companies want those sales. They can't survive on fans questioning or up front excited alone for sales as times/series go on.
Or those seeking story and focusing on it more and the gameplay reflecting that or what did/didn't work prior or so.
