We don’t expect Faaast Penguin to set the world alight – but boy does it look fun! Created by storied Japanese studio Historia, the team behind titles like The Caligula Effect, this is a chaotic free-to-play racing game in a similar vein to Fall Guys – albeit somehow even zanier! It reminds this author of the iconic slide sequence from the Cool, Cool Mountain level in Super Mario 64, which is still fun to play today.

There’ll be four courses at launch, and you’ll be sliding down them to the finish line, attacking your rivals along the way. If you’re successful in combat, you’ll be launched into the sky, allowing you to gain various advantages, such as finding shortcuts. In other words: it’s smart to be aggressive, but obviously you’ll need to take risks to earn rewards.

Matches will support up to 60 players, and there’ll be full crossplay across all supported consoles. You’ll be able to join in parties with your friends, or just play solo – it’s up to you. And as a free-to-play game, there’s the promise of more skins and courses to be added in the future – presumably with small microtransactions attached.

The title’s due out next month, in September, although the developer’s stopped short of sharing a specific date. Still, this looks like a treat, doesn’t it?
