Where did this come from? Polish studio 7LEVELS has unexpectedly announced Kong: Survivor Instinct, a PS5 side-scroller set shortly after the events of the Godzilla vs Kong movie. As the name suggests, the game casts you as a survivor, searching for your daughter as Titans unleash chaos upon a city’s innocent citizens.
The game’s being billed as a Metroidvania-style experience, but its USP is the way you’ll be able to utilise Monarch tech in order to influence the Titans. Employing the feature in the right places will open up new paths or protect you from danger – and from the unique 2.5D perspective, also present some impressive set-piece sequences.
“Take on the role of David, an oil rig worker braving a crumbling city to find your only child, Stacy,” the press release reads. “Make your way through the districts while encountering fellow survivors taking shelter among the rubble, mourning their loved ones or on the verge of giving up hope. Feel the awe-inspiring terror Titans bring upon a city through the eyes of a father desperate to find his daughter!”
The trailer looks pretty janky, with some awkward animations and a desperately slow shoot-out sequence. However, there’s certainly potential here, and it looks better than the abysmal Skull Island: Rise of Kong. A tentative release window of Fall 2024 has been attached to the title, but is this something you’d be willing to try?

“ after the events of the Godzilla vs Kong movie “
Might want to point out it’s after the first G v K movie (though technically the 2nd if you count the one that came out before all of us were born) and not the more recent G v K movie.
Such heavy Shadow Complex vibes here. Love it.
This actually looks amazing, like an arcade game we all wanted in the 80's but wasn't possible to make. I just hope they can manage to keep the gameplay from being mediocre in service to the graphics.
@rjejr I don't want to say I'm out of touch with modern film, but I didn't know there WAS a Godzilla after the original "Rook! Godzirra!" film.
@riceNpea Edited, thanks!
@get2sammyb you're welcome....now, about fall and autumn....😆👍
Jumping seems awkward, definitely side scroller not sure of metroidvania, combat looks janky.
@rjejr Of the Legendary films, GvK was the first one, while GxK was the second. So GvK will always be referring to the first of the two.
FINALLY I'll be able to live out my Godzilla / Kong fantasy... of being some random guy.
Hopefully this reviews well and people like it, I just can't find anything here to get excited for. The platforming looks about as smooth as Another World.
Looks very similar to the game Deadlight.
Hmmm would have been better if we played as Kong though
@glassmusic "So GvK will always be referring to the first of the two."
For people who follow the minutiae of the movies on a gaming website maybe, but since the sentence was "set shortly after the events of the Godzilla vs Kong movie" and not "set shortly after the events of "Godzilla vs Kong" then I have to think people some people might think the game is set after the more recent Godzilla and Kong movie b/c the difference between and vs and an x isn't all that much. And this site never uses quotes to tell if it's referring to an actual movie title or simply a Godzilla and Kong movie. So if the article meant "Godzilla vs Kong" then it should at least be in quotes to avoid any confusion.
@NEStalgia "but I didn't know there WAS a Godzilla after the original"
Not even Academy award winning Godzilla?

That would have to have been one Godzilla sized rock you'd been living under. 😂
@rjejr Do we really need to keep commenting on the size of the PS5?
@rjejr All fair points! Franchise titles have gotten increasingly confusing over the years.
@NEStalgia PS5 Slim w/o the disc drive being the same size as the PS5 Slim w/ the disc drive means we should never stop making fun of the PS5's size. 😂
@glassmusic Any title w/ an "X" in it is just trying to be edgy. My kids watch a lot of anime, my wife publishes manga, and I'm afraid the "X" thing is just getting started. 😜
That looks like an exact copy of Deadlight, even down to the levels.
What gives?
