Amazon's upcoming adaptation Like a Dragon: Yakuza will, tragically, not have the runtime to tackle Kazuma Kiryu's enduring passion for karaoke, it's been revealed. However, all hope is not lost as raucous, drunken singing "may come eventually".
Unfortunately, the show's first offering will be just six episodes, so the sillier side of Ryu Ga Gotoku's enduring universe may be sidelined, at least at first. That's according to The Gamer, which attended a roundtable interview in which producer Erik Barmack was hit with the hard questions (thanks, Eurogamer).
Of course, Barmack has to wait and see if the series will be picked up for future seasons, but in response to the question of karaoke, he said: "When you start to figure out how to boil down this world into six episodes... there's so much source material to pull from. As this series is an origin story, we wanted to ensure fans were emotionally connected to these characters... It's a balance that has to be found between the world that is so quirky and these characters, which need to feel real to everybody who is watching the series."
