What a disappointing showcase
This was a pretty weak one. I'm glad though, less backlog for me!
@Cloud39472
This gen has been an absolute blessing for my backlog. Using this god almighty next gen PS5's power to play PS3 and PS4 games... Smdh
I haven't watched it but is that it??? Thats the full list? What the heck was the point in this?
What has happened to the old days
When I saw an Uncharted 4, TLO2 or GOW reveal and left so excited for gaming and what was being released in the future.
DYING LIGHT 3 WOOOHOOO
I stopped watching when they gave Tencent, of all companies, a environmentalist award. Tencent pollutes the environment with their almost unlimited servers running on their games
@Savage_Joe I found that humorous (read shocking) as well. Considering that China outputs more harmful gases/pollution than any other country on the planet and have increased their output in direct violation to whatever that "authoritative" global summit, Paris something right, set as goals. Tencent was probably a generous donor to gamescon this year, especially their Asia show later in the year.
@Blaze215 These are just the full games that were announced. There was a ton of little announcements for DLC, new indies, etc., that are not listed. Wasn't a bad show. The one announcement I really enjoyed that is related to games is a new show in the vein of Love, Death & Robots but for games (existing franchises, new releases, and classics.) It is actually by the people who created Love, Death & Robots so that will be fun.

Looks like all the companies have just decided that they'd rather pursue one interest over entertainment. Wake me when it's over.
I could've played Wukong or Trails through Daybreak. Instead I watched THAT. Deep regret.
No Astro Bot, Lego Horizon and Death Stranding 2 tonight but does give hope for September showcase.
"Wishlist now" needs to go in the bin
It's not listed but The First Berserker: Khazan is still one of my most anticipated releases, I think it looks incredible.
For anyone else who's interested, you can sign up for the technical closed beta here - https://khazan.nexon.com/en/main
Play Rick Dangerous instead.
Do not ***** with the 'Rick"
@TrashcanMan pokes Rick with a stick
I'm glad i didn't watch it and don't have any expectation. Although Terry gameplay looks good which is all i need.
@Blaze215 gamescon is mostly for showing off already announced games there was a few announcements , but idk why people were over expecting some major announcements.
@OldGamer999 this wasn't a playstation event. not sure why you were expecting major sony announcements when they normally save them for their own state of plays.
Some absolutely cracking looking stuff announced tonight
There were a couple which I liked. But the rest were generic fps games.
An indy game which xbox but for ps5 and yet it maybe just me but the 3rd person sections looked so much better than the firdt person parts.
I really believe games of this nature just look and work better in 3rd person over the shoulder, esp for Indiana.
And then maybe Kingdom come deliverance 2 but we already knew about that.
Then last was the amazon prime show looked amazing, it was better than any game at the show.
Edit; just one more thing, Mafia old country that peaks my interest, ive enjoyed the mafi games and it maybe a great turning point to actually set it in the home of where the mafia started.
@twitchtvpat
I get what you are saying, but it probably had a big audience and Sony could have reached out to a lot of non PS5 owners.
Also Sony have been so quiet really and it would have been something for the fans.
I go back a long way in gaming and the PS4 days of Sony knocking it out the park with games, announcements and fan service, seem a distance past of Sony nowadays.
Only 1 game worth a ***** on that list IMO...
Sniper Elite: Resistance and it's not even coming out till next year...
Rest is just trash...
For me there is a lot that interests me and could make 2025 a very good year for AAA titles if all release in 2025. Games like Mafia Old Country, Indiana Jones, BL4, Dying Light the Beast, GTAVI, and Sniper Elite Resistance which for me could be the long desired continuation of the WW2 French resistance that I experienced in the Saboteur PS3 game.
Is it wrong that there's not one single thing on that list that I can honestly say I'm looking forward too
@OldGamer999 it also costs money to show off a trailer there. it looks like they spent a lil bit , but i think its like any where from 150k to 300k+ depending how long the trailer is. i think i told you this before but when they do announce some of these games they are working on i think its going to make alot of people happy , and trust me i want them just as much as you do lol.
@Savage_Joe To be fair, all data centers in the world are resource intensive. And judging by how many people support subscription services, data centers will continue to grow. As long as data centers are powered by nuclear or some other renewable energy all will be okay in the future. As normies are fully invested in this internet of everything world. So more data centers will come online. Servers are constantly on including the assets owned by your employer.
Reanimal was the only game that got me excited, which is what I predicted so I guess the conference didn't underdeliver for me.
The Goat simulator trailer was pretty good though, not my kinda game but I enjoyed that showing.
@twitchtvpat
Really hope so and hopefully releasing in 2025.
If that was all in a 30 minute show, Id have been happy enough as theres at least half a dozen titles I want to play. Spread out over 2 hours though and it was a yawnfest.
It was clear to me that Sony would show nothing. They have new hardware to launch and will be saving the games to show at their own event, hopefully next month...
BL4, Space Marine 2, MH Wilds and Dying Light the Beast are the ones I’m really interested in
@KillerBoy
Gamescom is till the 25th they won’t show every single announcement at the opening event.
There’s three Xbox showcase days with more announcements and game interviews
@Cloud39472
True but Gamescom is till the 25th this was just the opening event
This gen hasn't been particularly great and to be honest the sheer amount of AAA still launching on PS4 in 2024 mean devs have to use up resource on them too. The PS4 is a one of a kind console that is still available to buy brand new and has a player base into the millions still because it is one of the best engineered consoles ever made.
The reality is that until Sony out and out close down the PS4 operations (Which they won't do as it's still profitable) The PS5 will never really reach its full potential like the PS4 did with RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima and TLOU2 at the late stage of the gen.
I think only GTA 5 can save this gen and finally get millions Xbox One and PS4 players (Still playing COD NBA and Football games) to invest in the current gen and fork out the $480 for 5 year old hardware.
It will also push more players who own a PS5 or XSX to get a PS5 Pro for the extra frames/RT/Resolution. That should also help devalue the PS5 slim a bit in sales which may finally see that long awaited price cut to closer £400
@KillerBoy i loved it! I've got 32 games on my list
And predictably the comments are filled with people saying everything trash, I'm curious what games people actually like playing if any at all
I don’t think anyone expected too much from this anyway.
It could be worse. Imagine if your only console was switch and your announcements are bad ports and a bunch of toys 😄
It was okay. Definitely some games I'm interested in but most are far away. on the other hand, enough games to play!
1. Mafia The Old Country
2. Sniper Elite: Resistance
3. Space Marine 2
4. Reanimal
5. Little Nightmares 3
6. Indy
7. COD6 SP Campaign
Nothing for me personally. Waiting for smaller games, preferably platformers. But alas, that seems to be a dying breed unfortunately so I guess I can channel my money into other things
@OldGamer999 I have the exact same feeling. There may be a little of my 46 years of age playing its part, but it does feel like gaming has gone downhill in the past few years. But so has the world in general, and videogames are not disconnected from that.
VR has saved my interest in the hobby for the time being, but I wonder for how long.
@Art_Vandelay
It’s definitely not like last generation for sure and some generations before.
It seems stale and unexciting just from the developers and Sony and Microsoft, but also the old show excitement is missing as well.
