The Mafia games are fantastic. While they’ve always been unfairly compared to Grand Theft Auto, it’s the franchise’s thick atmosphere that makes it memorable. The latest instalment, Mafia: The Old Country, may just be the most moody yet, as it promises a “gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily”. Where do we sign up?
Unfortunately, developer Hangar 13’s not showing much yet, but a full reveal is planned for December. For now, there’s just the teaser trailer embedded above and this summary: “Fight to survive in this dangerous and unforgiving era, with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for.”
This is going to look and play incredible on PS5.

Oh this can't come soon enough. An open world crime game set in early twentieth-century Sicily is a dream come true. I've long lamented the lack of Euro-GTA-esque games, and this is a prime setting for one. Probably the best way this franchise could have made a comeback.
Let's gooooooooooooo!
Of course nothing to tell really from this video, but if they can capture the magic from the first two games it could be really good.
Excited for this one. Glad they’re going backward in time and not forward into the 70s/80s
Genuinely can't wait, this has the potential to be incredible
Mafia 3 sucked all my excitement from the series and then Remake pumped it back in, so I'm looking forward to this. I don't want the open world to be like 3's but I do hope they do more than they did with Remakes. A nice middle ground along with a great story and I'm happy.
No italian language
Unfortunately, the mafia series is not known for its rich world. There's usually not much activity besides completing the main missions. You can barely interact with the npcs and the environment. It's basically a linear game set in a very boring world. There's so much potential but it's usually not taken advantage of.
Very excited for this one! Mafia is a fantastic series.
Oh man, so high hopes and they have big shoes to fill. The frist 2 were the real deal.
This was an awesome announcement. I am one of the few that thoroughly enjoyed Mafia 3 despite all of its shortcomings, and the first two games in the franchise are classics. I can’t wait to see gameplay and how they utilize current gen tech.
Mafia 2 was my favorite followed by the first one. I know that a lot of gamers hated Mafia 3, but I enjoyed it. I can't wait to play the new one.
Got the platinum for all 3 games (twice for Mafia 2). Love the series. I'm surprised the trilogy or Mafia1 remake hasn't had a PS5 Port or 60fps patch.
Excellent choice for the story with going back to the old country before the Mafia 1 story. Maybe the next game will feature a Vegas story I have wanted. Oh please release in 2025 along with hopefully BL4 and GTAVI.
Mafia 2 with Joe's Adventure dlc is my favorite, then the excellent remake of 1. Mafia 3 coming in third does not feel Mafia like the first two as it seems more GTA. However Mafia 3 was enjoyable the 3 time I played it. Great music, a more alive world than 1 and 2, and also big nasty gators to play with and feed.
Can't wait to see the reveal in December.
None of the good mafia games were made by Hanger 13 but I'll keep an eye out.
Mafia: “Those yakuzas have taken the spotlight long enough. It’s time for us to make our comeback, brothers…”
Now if only we can also get a new Sleeping Dogs…
One of the the few good announcements from ONL
Hangar 13 again? Easy pass then. Mafia 3 was insulting on so, so many levels. Unless every single individual developer who worked on Mafia 3 has been forcibly moved on, I will not be giving this new one the time of day.
@CastelloGG Sleeping Dogs was so good. Even having the True Crimes on modern consoles would be awesome
Bring back the pseudo-sim aspects from Mafia 1 & 2 and we're eating good!
I want police to react authentically when I stick up a shop and they put out a description of my appearance. Or when I kill the shop owner, I want there to be barricades and tape around the shop and for it to be closed hours later. That world building that they forgot about in Mafia 3 and Mafia remake needs to come back. It's what sets RDR 2 apart from any other game.
@FantasyExplor3r88 play Mafia 2, explore the world and you'll disagree
I just hope its playable. I've never been able to beat Mafia 3 on PC or PS4 due to it being a broken buggy mess lol. At this point I might as well look up all the cutscenes on youtube and move on lol.
Very glad they went back to the classics. I enjoyed all 3 Mafia games but something about the early 1900's style is absorbing.
Oh hell yes. I’m all in!
Loved Mafia 2 but the 3rd one was poor, hopefully they can turn it around for this one.
