Dino Crisis

Dino Crisis creator Shinji Mikami has argued there's not a "whole lot of space" left for the series to occupy following the huge success of the Monster Hunter franchise. Despite the pretty clear differences between the two, Mikami feels that the "awesomeness of dinosaurs and the stuff you can do with" them has been "really nailed down" by Monster Hunter in the recent past, so he's "very surprised" Dino Crisis fans want more.

His comments come from a Eurogamer interview conducted at Gamescom, where he said that even if he decided to do a remake or a new instalment, he doesn't "really feel like there's a whole lot of space for that kind of game right now, just since Monster Hunter has become such a big game".

Comparing the two IPs, the only thing they truly share is the use of dinosaurs. Dino Crisis is more of a survival horror experience, while Monster Hunter is all about a jolly team-up with your friends to go on hunts together. They go for a very different tone overall, making Mikami's comments quite surprising.

In a survey conducted by Capcom earlier this year, Dino Crisis was voted as the series fans want to see return most. It comfortably beat out Mega Man and Devil May Cry, garnering 20,000 more votes than them both. What do you think of Mikami's comments? Do you see where he's coming from or do you think there are enough differences between them to co-exist? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
