It was always a slim hope; even then, it would have come with a premium price tag. Still, our dreams of Persona 3 Portable's female protagonist coming to remake Persona 3 Reload have been dashed against cruel, hard reality, seemingly for good. Producer Kazuhisa Wada let us down gently but firmly: "It is likely never going to happen."
Wada spoke to the now-defunct Game Informer, which means we can't link to the article itself, but PC Gamer has a copy of the final issue and relayed word. Sadly for fans of naginata-wielders, Atlus determined that including Kotone Shiomi (as the character is canonically known) would require too much work:
"The more we discussed it, the more unlikely it became. The development time and costs would not have been manageable. P3R has just been released, and there is currently a lot of player interest, so if we are to do an additional release, it has to be now. But since it is not possible for us to release P3R with the female protagonist in this window, we just can't do it. I'm really sorry to all of the fans who were holding out hope, but it is likely never going to happen."
Well, there you have it, closure, at least. While we might not see the return of our beloved female protagonist, at least we still have The Answer and Aigis' turn in the spotlight. Find closure, heal, and grow in the comments section below.

This can't be too much of a shock for people, even the original p3p was entirely different from the original persona 3.
You could have designed P3R from the start with her included. This is just Atlas being typical Atlas when it comes to female leads.
F**king hell, the fact this was in a Game Informer article that’s now wiped is crazy. So, so many writers’ work reduced to dust, especially mad when you realise that they were the main media partner for much of this new Dragon Age’s hype cycle.
No big deal to me since I started P3 with reload. But I’m sure people who liked FemC are disappointed
I'm really sorry to all of the atlus devs who were holding out hope, but I will likely never pay for this game.
Don't get me wrong, I still played through it just to see if it they added enough new content to justify cutting the femc and charging for The Answer instead of making it part of the base game, but nope. Just a lazy cash grab of a remake, but they won't be grabbing any cash from me lol.
Well I can already play with her on the best version so who cares xD
I started playing P3 Reload but played P3P alongside it. I thought that Kotone's viewpoint felt better.
What a lame decision. This entire remake's purpose should have been to create the definitive version of Persona 3 to save the tedious conversation of explaining the many different versions of the game to newcomers and people interested in starting the series. Instead, this game is just another point in that tedious conversation.
I'm calling their bluff, Atlus NOT doing a complete/golden/royal/vengeance version of a popular release screams BS but they'd obviously deny it existing to stop people just waiting.
It's a disappointment. I've played P3P before with the male protagonist, so I was wanting to go with the female protagonist next time I revisit the world of P3. If they had made this remake be the definitive edition with the advantages of both P3P and FES, then I would have jumped on it by now.
Well... P3P has been remastered and it's not a bad way to play the game.
@GloriosaDaisy uhh how did you play the game but did not pay for it?
@nessisonett Seriously, Magazines have gone down before, but never have I seen one proactively erased from existence.
GameStop was low in the circling of the drain before, but I now find it hard to even try to like the last gaming store left.
Probably happen in Persona 3 Reload "Royale", the inevitable expanded version.
I’m glad they confirmed it. So I will stick with the ports and my originals.
@Nem
Ported you mean
Oh dear I guess Atlus aren’t wanting her to be canon at all now then, wasn’t she in the PQ games I wouldn’t know as I haven’t played and both now cost an absolute fortune.
Still don’t know why they didn’t decide to do FES with her included in it though to be honest
She be released in p3 super edition don't let atlus fool u.
