Splashy action games are in at the moment, with the likes of Stellar Blade and Black Myth: Wukong proving to be big hits. The latest title to enter the no man's land between Dark Souls and character action fare like Devil May Cry is Phantom Blade Zero, from Chinese studio S-GAME. Coming to PS5, albeit with no firm release date yet, the game is playable at Gamescom this year, and a video featuring some of the fights within the demo has been shared online.
This looks like exactly the same set of combat encounters we played back at Summer Game Fest in June, where we came away from our hands-on really impressed. The game is super fast-paced and features very flashy attacks and animations, but you still need to pay attention, as even regular enemies pose a threat. The person playing in the above video makes it all look easy, though, making short work of three bosses.
What do you make of the deadly action seen in Phantom Blade Zero? Are you excited to check this out for yourself? Dodge into the comments section below.

I hope this is close to release , looks fluid, smooth animation and just generally looks great, multiple weapons and abilities looks like,
@WhiteRabbit Oh really? that's great! what I heard was 2027, a year earlier is better at least LOL
@WhiteRabbit seems a long time away, I mean fps, gfx, animation, weapon sounds etc, already perform better than half the games released this year.
I hope your wrong.. in the nicest aay possible of course 😎
@WhiteRabbit Yes 2027, according to lunatics ignus on X, they are a trusted leaker source
I NEED this game as soon as possible! I have/had more hype for this game than black Myth (no shade), just something about the aesthetic appeals to me more
It looks great. I really miss fast pace action games like this that put combat as the main reason why you're playing it. No need for exploration with big ass map and some puzzle or mini games that slowing down the pace, just fight after fight against brutal and challenging enemies.
It's a shame though that DMC and Ninja Gaiden are still MIA.
Looking like a day 1 buy.
This is so badass. Nothing else to say
After rewatching the video, i'm just glad that Chinese / Asian devs understand the idea of designing a character with memorable visual flair is one of the most important key to attract a lot of people into your game. If your main character looks cool / attractive then it will be easier to market your game.
It's similar like why Capcom designed Dante with silver hair, red coat, and dual handguns. Not just in in combat the players can easily distinguish Dante from his enemies because of his iconic figures, but everyone, male or female players, definitely don't mind playing as a good looking demon hunter.
The game looks really good, and since Wukong is so good, I'm really excited for this
Phantom blade zero is going to be another hit.word up son
@PuppetMaster Ninja Gaiden is MIA. DMC is still a series that is alive. We got 5 in 2019. Ninja Gaiden on the other hand, last one was 2012...(let's not speak about the Western made spin off from 2014...)
This game looks better than the last time I saw it. Combat looks great.
Crazy how these Chinese developer came out out of nowhere and are making all these good looking games and after Black Myth, no longer do I question if they're legit. That game delivered.
Looks pretty good, animations seem to be getting better lately in 3rd person melee games coming up, about time too.
Im liking crimson desert a lot too, with a pulled back camera often, wish it did even more to have a good overall view around, and more cinematic.
I'd like to see it played by someone that doesn't block every single hit. Of course it looks badass when the player is blocking everything. Looks a lot cooler than monkey staff game though.
Now it just looks too enemy sponge like. The original bad ass appeal is slowly disappearing.
Combat is gangsta but this dude is hammering away at a mob for half a minute jesus
And he seems to be pretty proficient at the game, I don't even wanna know what it'll be like if you find it hard to adapt to the combat.
@TruestoryYep Well, if that's your reason to say DMC is alive then Ninja Gaiden also still alive since KT released Master collection back in 2022.
But i'm stand with my opinion that both DMC & Ninja Gaiden are MIA. DMC 5 was 5 years ago and since then we didn't get a sequel or new game from Capcom. Even we don't hear anything from Netflix animated tv series which is schedule to release for this year.
For me definitely more interesting than BM Wukong, looks also much better like previous gameplay videos. Hope this is out soon, not 2026 or 27 as mentioned in the comments
Thought the first basic enemies seemed a bit spongey (I don't want to have to slash a grunt 100 times with a sword to take them out...) but boss fights looked good! Feel like there's a tough balance between making the player and the enemies seem/ feel equally dangerous, but this seems to do it well.
As much as I loved Ragnarok, that was a game that belied the strength of the "god of war" by making you duke some regular enemies that'd take far too long to kill!
