Sword of the Sea caught the eye during the PlayStation Showcase that aired in May 2023. Clearly inspired by timeless PS3 and PS4 title Journey, its reveal trailer promised a visually striking adventure in which you surf across sands atop a big sword. Lovely stuff, but we've seen nothing of the game since its announcement.
Fortunately, it looks like Sword of the Sea may be on the cusp of making a return. The title's just received its own PS Store page, and while there's still no sign of a release date, the listing's existence does suggest that things are moving behind the scenes.
If we're lucky, a re-reveal could be on the cards — perhaps at Gamescom later this month? We'll keep our fingers crossed.
Are you looking forward to Sword of the Sea's eventual return? Embrace the sudden urge to replay Journey in the comments section below.

The dev for this, Giant Squid, is comprised of ex-ThatGameCompany people who made Journey.
Their previous games were ABZU and The Pathless and they were really good.
You can't use showcase in a headline unless it's for a.showcase being announced lol
It’s good to have a few of these ‘Journey-likes’ in the library for balance. They serve as good palate cleansers. I have enjoyed mixing in Abzu, The Pathless, Rime, Bound, the Team Ico games and other of these types between larger narrative action games.
@Americansamurai1 I can only apologise.
@ShogunRok it's cool, here's hoping we get one in September.
Put it on my wishlist. Journey (and Flower/Flow), Abzu and the Pathless are all amazing games, I'm sure this one will be no different.
Looking forward to this one, all their games have been great
@Th3solution wow! It’s like you are in my head!!! I do exactly the same thing👍🏻
@PSme Great minds, and all that. 😄
Another one you might keep on your radar then is Jusant. I haven’t played it yet but heard it’s in this same general family of games.
I’ve got this one wishlisted now. Excited for this one. The Pathless was one of the first PS5 games and it felt almost like a next gen Journey when it launched and Abzu’s absolutely a classic too.
