Extremely entertaining downhill cycling title Descenders is getting an enormous sequel – although it’ll launch first on Xbox and PC in 2025, with a PS5 and PS4 port plotted afterwards. That means you’ll need to wait a little longer for your extreme sports fix on Sony’s system – a little disappointing considering how popular the original game proved.
Still, the sequel looks fantastic: it’s promising to be the “only extreme sports game you’ll ever need”. It sounds like developer RageSquid is plotting some kind of live service here, because the press release mentions that the release will start with a “couple of deeply-crafted sports”, but it’ll add “more and more adrenaline-fuelled activities over time”.
The blurb explains: “When Descenders Next launches in 2025, it will begin life with a focus on boarding sports. Players will learn to conquer the snowy caps through tight, effortless snowboarding action, before taking to the highlands with the grittier feel of mountainboarding. Each sport will feel and handle completely different to the others, meaning players will have to learn to tackle and master every nook and cranny of Next.”
Despite the promise of more disciplines to follow, RageSquid insists this will be a full release from the off, with online multiplayer, giant biomes, and a ton of kit. There’ll also be a “banging soundtrack” from MonsterCat to listen to while you go about your business.
“Last time around, Descenders provided both procedurally-generated tracks, as well as a selection of hand-crafted parks,” the summary continues. “With Descenders Next we’ve brought it all together with a more natural experience, as players will tackle procedural off-piste mountains that chain together into tight, winding parks, and vistas.”
But yeah, unfortunately that PS5 and PS4 version is still quite a way away. At least there’s always Riders Republic to keep you occupied in the meantime, eh?

Shame we have to wait but we did for the first one too. It does look brilliant, I loved the first one.
It's a timed exclusive for Xbox, get the pitchforks out! MS spent 3.7 billion for 6 month exclusivity of this game!
yooo make a VR version
@Waitinonpsvr2 The first-person levels in the first one are absolutely vomit-inducing already 😂
The question is: Does it have licensed music like the snowboard/skateboard stuff on the PS2?
