Though there doesn't seem to be much hype surrounding it, part of Sony's first-party slate for 2024 is the PS5 and PC release of Until Dawn. This fan favourite horror adventure game released nearly a decade ago, and now, it's coming back on modern hardware, with a pretty significant overhaul to boot. We now know the release date, and it's releasing just in time for the Halloween season — 4th October, 2024.

To mark the release date announcement, a new trailer has been released, comparing the new version with the PS4 original. Developed by Ballistic Moon, this upcoming revision of the game is more than just a resolution bump; it's been "built from the ground up" in Unreal Engine 5, boasting "updated character models, environments, interactable props, visual effects, and animations". Additionally, the game has been "completely relit" to take advantage of raytracing and enhanced materials.

As well as visual upgrades, the new version of Until Dawn introduces a modern third-person camera that brings it in closer to the player character. During certain parts of the game, you'll be able to control the camera freely. Ballistic Moon has also done some work on the game's prologue, giving more context to the Washingtons and the infamous prank.

Collectibles have been relocated, so if you think you know how to find them all, you can't lean on that for the new version. All totems are in different spots, and new Hunger totems have been added too. Finally, new accessibility options have been implemented, including an alternative to the Don't Move mechanic.

It seems like a robust reimagining of the game, then, but is it enough to convince you to pick it up again this October? Let us know in the comments section below.
