It's been a good few months since we last heard from CD Projekt, but it sounds like the company's still got everything under control. As has been widely reported, it currently has two separate teams working on the next game in The Witcher series (commonly referred to as The Witcher 4), and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
The Witcher 4 is supposed to be next in line for release, and the good news is that it's fast approaching full production. "The Polaris team, working on the next game in The Witcher saga, made substantial progress [in the last six months], which will soon enable us to wrap up pre-production and take this project to the full production phase," states joint CEO Michał Nowakowski, as part of the organisation's most recent financial briefing.
Of course, "full production" doesn't really tell us much — it just means that the game's foundations have been given the greenlight, and it's time for the whole team to knuckle down and start pulling everything together. With that in mind, it's probably going to be quite some time until we actually get to see The Witcher 4 in action. We're talking years, still.
And on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, the next Cyberpunk game is starting to take shape at CD Projekt's Boston studio. Nowakowski says that the title remains in the planning stage, but progress is being made all the time. Needless to say, we're going to be waiting on this one for a long while.
Time marches on for CD Projekt, then, and we live in hope that everything continues to go smoothly for both development teams. When do you think our first look at the next Witcher will drop? What about the Cyberpunk sequel? Wait patiently in the comments section below.

I could honestly do without another Cyberpunk game, as I didn’t really like the first one, but I’ll toss a coin to my Witcher any day.
Just about to enter full production. Will we see it before 2030?
Two of my favourite ever games. Well up for more of 'em.
@themightyant Confident we'll see it before 2030. Somewhat confident it'll actually release before 2030!
I thought their next release was supposed to be a Witcher 1 remake?
@ShogunRok Ha! You know what I meant! lol.
5 year production cycle would take us to end of 2029, i'm not so certain it will release in that timeframe.
@themightyant Yeah, and we all know CDPR likes to take its time... (except when it doesn't and things go really badly).
If its out before 2030, I'll be shocked.
Pre production is a huge chunk of the process. This is great news!
@ShogunRok Errr...you mean Atlantic Ocean?
Taking bets on how many times GTA6 will be re-released/remastered before The Witcher 4 drops lol
@RudeAnimat0r I think that's another Polish studio called Fools Theory developing the Witcher 1 remake for CD Projekt.
Witcher > Cyberpunk
@wildcat_kickz That's a very good catch, thanks!
@RudeAnimat0r CDPR isn't the primary developer on the remake. It's being handled by another Polish studio called Fool's Theory.
I wont make the mistake of being a day one'er ever again. I wait a year or two and buy "Game of the Year" edition when they make the games work...
@somnambulance yeah for me it wasn't even the bugs as much as it was boring with every character except Johnny being forgettable and a world that felt devoid of interesting things to do. I know most people love the game and I'm happy they do but my brother and I just felt tired throughout.
Tbf I didn't care too much for the Base game Witcher 3 which fell apart after The Bloody Baron but the side quests and especially the expansions were incredible. Hearts of Stone is probably the best DLC I've played after The Old Hunters and Lair of the Shadowbroker
@themightyant modern gaming and the devs shifting engines probably late 2029 if we are lucky.
Take your time! Very excited for both.
@ShogunRok Ah, cool, wasn't aware it wasn't in house.
@ShogunRok I do what I can 😂
@breakneck Totally agree with your thoughts on Cyberpunk. The jank and bugs were more fun and memorable than the base game for me. The whole thing reminded me of Far Cry in a negative way. Even with fixes, I don’t think I’d be able to get invested into the game.
It’s nice to know what they’re working on, even if it’s just something like “full production”, it gives me some comfort knowing what’s coming, even if it’s years away.
Ahem… Sony on the other hand, is there anything in full production at any of your studios? We now know more about the state of Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk sequel than we do about Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us, God of War, Horizon, etc. 😄
@Th3solution The thing is with CDPR, they need to keep their investors happy so they publicly release all this info. Sony obviously has investors as well, but it relies on so many other operations to make money.
But I agree with what you're saying, it'd be nice to have this kind of insight into every company!
@themightyant maybe in 2036
Cyberpunk is one of my favourite games ever. Let's hope they finish this one before release, though.
@ShogunRok I've notice both Nintendo and Sony this gen have held their cards really close to their chest (maybe a sign of investor confidence that they haven't been asked too many questions) but Microsoft needs to show a lot to keep investors... Invested in the Xbox brand.
CDPR outright depends on its games with GoG not really being much of a money maker so they have to be open to Shareholders. Same for Remedy who are fully into game development. Both can only handle 2 or so projects actively at a time too.
Sony do need to provide some single player updates soon though. The negativity is getting too loud.
Really didn't enjoy cyberpunk. Just felt really boring and shallow. Some of the least satisfying combat I've ever experienced in a game. So many other games do the cyberpunk genre justice and 2077 felt like a teenager's interpretation of the cyberpunk genre
As much as I like hearing that I don't know why anyone should really care about a game that they aren't gonna see for 5 years(Or maybe even more than that)
Well... that means it's still 4 years off.
Kind of amazed that they are doing another cyberpunk.
