You'd be forgiven for forgetting a PS5, PC remake of PS4 horror classic Until Dawn is in the works — there has been very little chatter or promotion up until now — but a new age rating listed by the ESRB confirms the remake is still on the way.
Since this is expected to be a one-to-one remake of the original game, the description provided by the firm contains very little in the way of new information; for fans it simply acts as a reminder Until Dawn will still be out this year. "This is a survival-horror adventure game in which players help eight friends survive a serial killer at a mountain retreat," the age rating description states. "As players progress through the game, they explore environments while choosing action/decision paths via on-screen prompts." Yeah, that sounds like Until Dawn alright.
While original studio Supermassive Games has its focus set on The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Casting of Frank Stone, the remake is in the hands of Ballistic Moon, a new team working with PlayStation. So far, all we've been treated to is a gameplay trailer and the promise of a new third-person camera and a visual and audio overhaul.
"Until Dawn has been rebuilt with the latest tools and techniques. New and improved animations build on the success of the original character performances. Characters, environments and VFX have been upgraded – all for a truly enhanced cinematic horror experience," creative director Neil McEwan said upon the remake's unveiling. "We use a broader cinematic tonal colour palette and new perspectives to make the story more nuanced and emotional. We’ve been brave enough to shine a light into the dark, unseen corners of Blackwood Mountain and added a third-person camera, which means you can now look behind the curtain of the original game, exploring enhanced and new locations with new interactions and collectables."

Do they have to repay the actors for this game 🤔
Here's hoping they will add an upgrade path, just like TLOU Part 2 Remaster did, but it probably won't happen, as it's a Remake.
Nice spoiler screenshot, in the article 😂
Calling it now until dawn 2 teaser after the credits
@Sacrosanctus I think they have to. This game is the epitome of one and done 0oay for the majority of players. It's a great interactive movie but once you have seen the ending, I don't think there is a compelling reason or will to replay just to see different scenarios. Especially with the twist of the story and after that point it is pointless. I would more likely be tempted to pay an upgrade fee than for it outright again.
surly this cant be a £70 release
I already know what happens so I don't really see the point in getting it again.
Depends on the price I think 40 pounds max is reasonable.
Just finished my first Supermassive game (The Quarry) and loved it, so I'm excited for this Until Dawn remake!
Played it when it was part of the PSplus 3 'free' monthly games, Enjoyed it, replayed once to try and do a bit better. But I cant see myself replaying again.
Plus im sure im right in thinking that on PS5 it already runs at 60fps so any graphics updates are superfluous to me - not sure i see the point in a remake unless they make additions to the story / choices.
So - it may surprise PushSquare that NOT EVERYONE HAS PLAYED THE GAME.... Why would you use this your story art? The one job you had... the one thing that makes such a difference. Oh - that's right Billy, HE SEES DEAD PEOPLE, JUST LIKE <SPOILER>....
Dude…. Change the picture in the article…..
Really not sure this needs a remake it still stands up today, and unless they change the story up existing players will have little interest, better to concentrate their efforts on a sequel.
Not seeing the need for a remake/remaster of a PS4 game (even though I really like Until Dawn). It's a little too recent for the remake treatment, especially considering you can just play the PS4 version of Until Dawn on PS5.
It felt strange for The Last of Us, it feels even weirder for this game. Only PS4 game I would like to see a re-release for is Bloodborne.
Why put a spoiler in the picture? Of all the pictures you could use... Would be like posting an article about last of us 2 and posting the golf club scene.
Loved Until Dawn on PS4.
Hope they offer an upgrade path for existing owners.
@Drago201 I think one actress posted that she had gone back and done more new work on the game so I guess some will have been paid more. Doubt they'll have been able to get remi malek back in though.
