Rogue Flight’s thumbnail is doing the game a disservice. We’d glossed over this trailer for Truant Pixel’s newest title, assuming it was another lousy low-effort indie shmup. It’s actually an After Burner or Star Fox-style affair with an 80s anime aesthetic, reminiscent of Space Adventure Cobra or Battle of the Planets – it looks cool.

The game will actually feature Japanese voice talent from prestige shows such as Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Gundam – but there will be an English dub as well if you prefer.

The full game will feature nine stages, but there’ll also be a roguelite mode for those who want a little more longevity from the experience. You’ll be able to unlock different liveries and customisations for your aircraft, while there’ll be tons of different weapons to earn and equip as well.

If you’re worried about the arcade difficulty, the developer says it’ll offer multiple difficulty tiers to make the experience accessible to everyone. And there’ll be an opening theme song performed by J-Pop star Itoki Hana.

There’s no firm release date just yet, although Truant Pixel is saying it’ll be available in late 2024. Considering the developer’s previous PSVR2 efforts, it’s a shame there’s no virtual reality support confirmed just yet, but that could come later down the line.
