One of PlayStation's biggest success stories is the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. While there have been some sloppy landings here and there, the skateboarding franchise has been extremely popular ever since the first entry, which released 25 years ago. The series' namesake has commented on not only the legacy of the games, but also its future.

Posting on Instagram, Tony Hawk shares a clip of some motion capture sessions from the first game's development, and says a few words about how the series has impacted not just his life, but the sport of skateboarding as a whole. When it comes to what's next, it seems his hands are somewhat tied by Activision, but he pretty much confirms something is on the horizon. "I’m not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series; but there will be a future," he says.

This follows on from comments he made in a recent interview, in which he reveals he and Activision are working on something "the fans will truly appreciate".

It seems we won't be getting any big announcements right now, then, but knowing there's more THPS on the way is very exciting. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, a remake of the first two titles, was very warmly received by fans, so we're hopeful the next game will build on that. It's unclear whether we'll get the 3 + 4 remakes, as that project was canned when Vicarious Visions was dissolved, but who knows?

Happy 25th to THPS! Are you keen to see more from this beloved series? Grind into the comments section below.
