After a wave of leaked footage hit the web last week — most of it highlighting a bunch of unannounced characters — Bandai Namco has gone ahead and finished off its character reveals for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, via a new trailer.
The final launch roster consists of a whopping 182 characters, spread out across Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and even various Dragon Ball movies. In that sense, the game's a true successor to the old Budokai Tenkaichi series, which was famous for its gigantic rosters, full of deep cuts and cool references.

Here's a screenshot of the entire roster, which really does look impressive now that everyone's visible.

Which characters are you going to try first in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero? Give a shoutout to your most underrated favourites in the comments section below.

This has to be a record for the biggest roster ever in a game right?
Going to get this unless it reviews absolutely awful
That's pretty impressive.
That's an impressive amount of Goku's.
Are those people available day 1 or released throughout the game via battle pass or season pass or whatever?
Ah, anything even remotely resembling balance, we hardly knew ye.
@QiaraIris base roster
Absolutely Cannot wait!
Have they released them in a list, b/c it looks like about 6 versions each of 30 characters. 😂
I mean, I know that’s what DB is, I’m a fan from way back, but “182 characters” seems like a bit of a stretch. I was joking about the 6x30 (b/c the math was easy) but what’s the actual character count? I’ll even give you DB kid Goku is different than adult Goku going forward, but I’d still say the character count can’t be much more than 80 w/ skins. Not that Smash doesn’t do the same with its 5 Links. Just wondering.
@Shad361 @QiaraIris Only technicality is 'Mini' Goku from the new Dragon Ball Daima anime, who's locked behind pre-orders.
Additional DLC characters are also planned, so this roster's definitely going to break 200 in time.
@ShogunRok I was not aware of daima goku being pre order exclusive so appreciate this being pointed out 😆
I got overconfident when I saw the leaks so it’s nice to know character is at least (sorta) unspoiled for me!
Edit:
“Additional DLC characters are also planned, so this roster's definitely going to break 200 in time.”
Tobal 2, eat your heart out!
That might as well be a Mugen Character Select Screen lol
I'm surprised this game is generous with most fighting games these days and their multiple season passes 🤔
That's a very impressive base roster in true Tenkaichi tradition! will easily pass 200 characters with DLC, there's still lots of characters missing from the OG Dragon Ball and GT that I want to see but this is a good start 👏
most of those characters are re-skins of eachother and will play similarily, right? i find it hard to believe that they would code 182 unique move sets. unless, of course, the command list is incredibly basic and each character is mitigated to a few punch, kick and fireball commands, without a combo system. regardless, impressive roster which likely has never been done before on this scale.
I can’t wait to see how this game manages the canon/nom-canon storyline in Dragon Ball. This is no doubt going to have all the convoluted things that we loved about the PS2 era and I am so excited for that.
I’d also love to read the list of characters. That image shows a lot, but it’s hard to tell.
And, man, Ultra Ego Veggie, Black Freeza, and Moro for dlc please
@Porco if it's anything like the old Tenkaichi games then everyone more or less plays the same with different specials.
Does this include dragon ball heros like the fusion between ssj4 goku and goku ultra instinct gogeta🤪
Preordering.
@Ludacritz ah, i see.
How I miss the Budokai days of picking every character at their base form and accessing all of their forms at your leisure in-match. It even had some strategy to it, since the more powerful forms required nearly maxed out Ki, so you had to be conservative with lower-level forms and specials if you wanted to attain higher-level forms.
Granted, it was a meta-game that only really applied to Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Frieza. But, FighterZ aside, I feel like Dragon Ball games should throw most concepts of balance and equity away.
Looks like Tobal 2 is (roster-wise, and with DLC in mind) gonna have some competition soon enough.😅
Jokes aside, the base roster is a thumbs-up.
@Spanky I remember when I used to think Ultimate Battle 22/27 had a huge roster, seems so quaint now! Can't wait for this! Would love a character list but hopefully just plain non Super Saiyan Vegetto is playable.
@AfroMario It seems to me that every character has a "limit break" form. A singular form. So if you pick SSJ Goku, you start as base Goku and can transform once into SSJ. If you want to go SSGSS, though, you have to pick that specific variant, and then you'll be unable to go SSJ. At least, that's how it appears to me.
Which brings some aspect of what I was yearning for to the table, but with less depth and no freedom. The choice to bar yourself from higher forms for whatever reason — even partaking in some roleplaying by not going all out for certain scenarios — added a lot to the experience.
