Ghost of Tsuhima's successor has finally been announced, having rumoured to have been in development for at least a few years at Sucker Punch Productions. It's officially called Ghost of Yotei, and the reveal trailer shows a female ronin supposedly hunting across the Japanese countryside.
The trailer itself is dripping with the kind of samurai cinema mood you'd expect of a sequel, and naturally, we can't wait to see more. It's coming to PS5 next year, and we'll no doubt be hearing more about it soon.

A woman?
WOKE
...
Am I doing this right?
Anyway, yeah, a new first-party PS5 exclusive. Pretty cool for fans of the original.
Looks amazing. I like they went this direction with a different story to Jinβs
All I see in the YouTube comments is woke. But I wonder how many of those same people drool over Stellar Blades female main character. So weird
@Ralizah Almost, it's DEI now!
Also, LEEETTTSSSS GOOOO
Sony needed this. Those visuals are beyond incredible like WOW!!!!.
2025 is quite a year isn't it? This, GTA 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, i'm guessing either Wolverine or Venom and far more.
This was the moment of the show and the only part that made me feel like the old Sony PS4 days again.
Glad the game has finally arrived.
Wheres my boy jin sakai.is she the star of this game.it does looks amazing.word up son
One of the main reasons I'm getting the Pro. I absolutely cannot wait for this.
I love her already π πππππ
I had a quick Google search and the game is set 300 years after Tsushima and 1603 is a hugely important year because it's the very start of the Edo period in Japanese history.
@playstation1995 Jin is dead my man. It's like 400 years after The first game. I guess he finally became a real ghost, word up son
Ubisoft just cancelled their Tokyo Game show presence for AC Shadows. No joke.
I absolutely adored Ghost of Tsushima, so I am really looking forward to this.
I may TRY to hold off to see if there is a PC version, though, but...it's going to painful given how much I loved Ghost of Tsushima.
@SuperSilverback @Ainu20 Countdown to whoever the actress for this character is getting death threats starts now.
Basement dwellers crying because you play as a woman
HOLD THOSE TEARS WE WILL BE THERE DAY ONE
@Ralizah Nothing wrong with women protagonists. Look at Stellar Blade. The issue is making them a frumpy girl-boss who imitates and hates men.

Looks sick. Need to finish GoT and Ikki island though, was a bit repetitive at times, hopefully sequel is more varied.
@Ralizah haha maybe they've made her mute to spare a voice actress the online torture
I am on board for this.
Looks good. But... Jin's story was what i was looking forward to. we shall see
What a mic drop.
@Rambo-kind I'm trying to think of a female protagonist who is a misandrist, but my memory is failing me. Offer some examples?
@SuperSilverback Just harass the motion capture actress, then.
@nessisonett ikr how she gonna breathe?
I played my favourite YouTube comment game. How long before you see a clown scream woke, took 10 comments
I look forward to the trolls here complaining about bad writing and to many ghost games so sucker punch should be making a new IP going forward to.
Personally, I got so excited it gave me fibrillationsπ
@Rambo-kind Name one misandrist protagonist of a game.
I wonder if all the people hating on Yasuke for totally legitimate reasons are gonna support this protagonist...
I can practically taste the twitter salt that they're doing lady ghost of tsushima. There's gonna be so many tedious YouTube videos about it. I'm into it though, glad they're leaving Jin's story as is.
I am incredibly hyped for this. I love love love Ghost of Tsushima, so this is perfect. Can't wait.
But can you pet the wolf?
Beyond hyped. Count me in.
Just what I needed from Sony. I have a massive art print from Ghost of Tsushima over my office desk so to say I am hyped is an understatement. The first game was one of the best things I've played. Loved it. Can't wait for this.
If it wasnβt for Lunar, this would have been the highlight of the show for me.
The fact a female protagonist is in this is fine and, depending on how they do the story, historically accurate. There absolutely were female ronins and samurai.
The ONLY thing Iβm bummed out about is that I wonβt play as Jin. He became one of my favorite PS characters ever.
Trailer views have already exceeded the number of players who played Concord π¬

Ok, I need a Atsu avatar!
YEEEEEEAH BABYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Looks interesting. Though it takes place centuries after the first one, this would give me a good excuse to play the first one.
I mean come on, let's be brutally honest, Jin was good but he was hardly Mr Charisma was he?
And yes I know that's partly the point. But if I'm going for a pint with him it's only so he's there in case it kicks off.
I'm glad that they didn't bring Jin back for another game after what I thought was a good ending for the character, and that they moved forward in time to a different period to tell a new story!
Personally, I like the fact that they went with a different character instead of Jins. His story was already told.
I feel like it's better the companies continue with the same character only if it's not completed but ghost of Tsushima looks like a complete experience.
The last of us one should've done that after it ended, with brand new characters same world.
The only moment in the state of play that legitimately got me to sit up and take notice. Within about two scenes I got the Ghost vibe and thought 'hang on...' and then the SP logo splashed on screen...
"See that mountain? You can climb it," feels fresh again. Hopefully you do get to, though I'd imagine it might be the final part of the story. Also, one of the only things I didn't like about the original is that the towns, while sometimes beautiful, felt kind of dead. Just buildings with what were effectively mannequins standing around. Hopefully they can love them up and make them really interesting places, like the towns in BotW.
I'm excited for the new character. Could be a cool touch though to have one of those 'legends' side quests refer to the tale of the Ghost of Tsushima.
@mountain_spider Yeah. I'd hate it if someone else invades Tsushima and Jin is like "looks like it's time... to become the Ghost again!" as he needlessly but dramatically draws his sword. Certain other devs repeat the same thing ad nauseum with their characters and plots so I'm glad to see SP not doing that here.
IM SO HYPED! Itβs Sucker Punch so I know itβll be good but after Ghost 1 I expect amazing and so far it looks better than I expected.
Sucker Punch never disappoints! I'm sure this will be fantastic. Seriously one of my favourite developers in the whole industry, I've loved basically all of their games for years now.
That's a biiiit of a shame that it's far after Ghost of Tsushima(I wanted to see Jin working with another Ghost), but seeing a new ghost is awesome as hell!
The trailer was a piece of art! Really well made, dont usually see game trailers that beautiful
@Matroska Exactly. Plus, they can always surprise us and bring him back in a different game. If they develop a good story, but I like the whole complete experience beginning to end and move onto the next.
Ghost Of Tsushima gave me my successor to Rikimaru Ghost Of Yotei is giving me a successor to Ayameπππ
Looking forward to this. GoT was ace.
@Matroska Jin has become one of my favourite game characters but yeah his amazing story feels complete. To be honest as much as I adore Jin and Yuna I was low key hoping they'd go the anthology route with this series
Woo I was just saying I need a new game to play from Sony. This hit my checkboxes! I went from no new sony games in the future to LETβS GO!!! Please let there be a CE!
Also as a (beginner) shamisen player I am pleased as punch!
I'm cautiously optimistic. I hope that they tighten up the side content. The fox hunts and haikus and all of the other repetition got really old after a while.
Literally the bomb drop that saved the show for me. Was absolutely tuning out till this came to the screen.
Looks great as expected from SP. We are finally getting out of the bottleneck called covid lockdown, it was about time.
Looks sweet! Gave me the spaghetti western feel too with the trailer music.
I'm happy they didn't give Jin the Aloy treatment and have him star in about 100 games π Ghost was fantastic and we now get a another potentially fantastic game with a new protagonist!
I'm hyped and it gives me a bit of Blue Eye Samurai vibe with the protag.
And before anyone say "female protag = woke" or don't respect Japan history & culture, there's women who were a member of Bushi (warrior) class in old Japan. They called Onna-Musha or Onna-Bugeisha and they did participated in battle / war.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onna-musha
So i think it will not spark unnecessary drama like AC Shadows with Yasuke...hopefully.
Imagine how much tea Sucker Punch must have sipped since the AC Shadows reveal.
Okay so now there are 2 games that are must buys in 2025 and the both start with the letter "G"!
If weβre lucky, maybe itβs a little βBlue-Eyed Samuraiβ: The Game?
Wonder if we're going to see firearms in the game.
They certainly could have went the more safe and certain route by bringing Jin back, but I'm glad they are giving us a new origin story and character to follow. And It's a woman ronin, super cool.
I think Ghost 2 always felt it would be announced before ND and Bluepoint's next game, so it's a relief to finally check one off the list.
So...are we able to gather from this that all the "Playstation insider leakers" are full of rubbish?
There was rumblings from your grubbs and other oracles that there was a Ghosts of Tsushima 2 in production. But literally none of them pertained to the change of the name, the massive time jump, the female protag or the fact they were moving the series to be a Japanese history anthology rather than an ongoing story.
You just have to conclude from this that all those leakers were just guessing (because of course you'd expect a sequel from a massive game that sold like hotcakes) because there's no way you don't find out some of these details with insider knowledge
when the trailer started I knew what was about to go down I cannot wait ghost of Tsushima was one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had I went into that game without watching any trailers or gameplay only saw the tv advert for it but fell in love with it from the moment I played it easily my most anticipated game of 2025
Disappointed we didnβt get a Jin Sakai sequel but nonetheless, still excited for this. Iβm sure itβll be excellent
Initial impressions look good. Iβm very wary of new games right now, so I will hold off until I see a few reviews before I get too excited. Itβs set in the past, but is it made for the βmodern audienceβ like so many others that havenβt been selling well lately? Itβs a genuine question.
Great announcement, I hope SP finds a way to make the game a little less repetitive.
I want to see more of the world and the graphics, Ghost was quite unique in that way.
Also, I am a dude and I like playing female characters.
Ps Ubisoft is weeping tonight.
@jorel262 I played the original game while playing spaghetti western soundtracks in the background and it was AMAZING π
Uhhhh so everyone loved Jin Sakai and their great idea is to scrap that and do a whole new game that is set 300 years later? Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
@Dalejrfanfreak Because Jim's story was largely done a sequel would just cover the same ground.
Brilliant end to the show. Love that this is moving on and is not a direct sequel. Kind of thing that might help sell the pro with those stunning visuals.
Looks absolutely fantastic. I am a bit sad to bid an unexpected farewell to Jin for the sequel but I have the utmost faith in Sucker Punch. They simply don't miss. If they felt the need to move on from Jin then I trust their judgment. Obviously highly looking forward to it!
Just hope they leave multiplayer out of this one π€πΌ
@Dalejrfanfreak Jin story already done with the Iki island expansion added he finally closed his personal matter with his father murderer.
Sure they can make the sequel that follows Mongols 2nd invasion. But that would be a repeat of the first game and i bet people would complaint nothing new or it should be a DLC.
But with this, they can try out new setting, characters and story, as well gameplay. Which make the "Ghost of" series open up more possibilities rather than just stuck with Jin & Tsushima vs Mongols.
@Frmknst I hope so, because I'm only getting pro if I can get the psx 30th anniversary edition, and probably slim chance of getting hold of one
The only SoP highlight for me. I enjoyed the first game and am itching to play this one.
Wish there was another bloke as the main character for this type of game. Iβll pass.
@Rambo-kind gamers whom are mostly men like female characters whom are attractive by worldly standards especially for fantasy games. Have since the beginning. Like you said men donβt like the loud and in charge characters that the Anglo world loves to produce. For somewhat historical period pieces the blokes including myself donβt like the infusion of modern practices into something that is supposed to be a period piece. The reality is that throughout the ages war has almost exclusively been the province of men. Even today only men are required to fight when things get rough despite equality under the law. Japanese history has so many warriors stories that could be told whom are blokes.
Looks good, I do hope they manage to make it less repetitive than the first where I think content was a step back from infamous 1 and 2. The wolf sidekick has been done in other games, Arashi comes to mind and obviously Torgal, so it doesn't feel as unique as they were hoping there but get we know a game is coming and it's a good one. And SP is STILL more productive than ND ....
@AdamNovice Indeed, Jim's story is done .
@GamingFan4Lyf solidarity my friend. We need the PC port though it might be years later. Plus I need my VR mod for it as I'll be playing the first in VR
@WanderingBullet she shoots a long arm at the end of the trailer! Gonna add a little variation to the gameplay. Iβm hoping itβs realistic in where you basically have one shot and a long reload so you can use it strategically.
@Dalejrfanfreak I think itβs way too early to call this βdefeat.β If the game is up to Sucker Punchβs usual quality this will be a sales success with strong reviews. Choosing to go with an anthology style series for the IP will keep the stories fresh and interesting!
already the woke crowd is upset at a female protagonist in yotei. they are shocked. they cant believe female samurai existed maybe they should read history female samurai were around in the 12th century onward.. as well as assassins..
Oh a female protaganist? That's an interesting choice for sure. Fairly certain people will complain about this...
Makes me wonder if people would also complain if Gravity Rush would return - since the lead of that game was also a women?
... Stupid times we live in.
@PuppetMaster Blue Eye Samurai is incredible. If Ghost is half as beautiful and gripping I would be a happy chappy.
Glad the spidey senses where right on this one. That is what PS needs, some first party titles in the near future. That said, 2025 can be soon or late if it's at the end. GOT release was around July IIRC and maybe that could be an indicator?
I am once again here to say that 2025 is STACKED.
But I canβt wait.
Apparently it's set in 1603 Hokkaido. Good idea to make it an anthology series. Hopefully the third game will be set in 1800's Edo period!
@johnedwin Also, it's possible she might not be an 'official' samurai. She could be primarily a train assassin or something
I reeeeallly hate to wade into this whole misguided gender wars conversation but I never actually realized until reading this thread and it occurred to me that Sony main characters actually ARE turning into a matriarchy where most Sony franchises are now headed by female leads.
Ghost: out with Jin in with new female prograg
Horizon: Aloy
Ratchet: Rivet Co hero
Uncharted: presumed to be Drake's daughter
Tlou: female protag murders male PC then takes rest of game.
Stellar blade (not Sony IP Sony pushed)
Gravity Rush: Kat
Infamous: Fetch was the latest and much better protag than CardboardMan.
Sack Boy and Kratos are the only male protags left they haven't killed, retired, or abandoned.
@Vaako007 "Japanese history has so many warriors stories that could be told whom are blokes"
I'm sure you got your fill with Samurai Warriors, Kessen, Onimusha, NiOh, Devil Kings / Sengoku Basara, Rise of the Ronin, Yakuza Ishin, and so on that let you play as Japanese blokes.
But this is the first time for a samurai game with female lead who used dual blade and took place in early 1600 Japan. I myself want to know more about Onna-Musha / Onna Beguisha aka female warrior who live in that era because there's plenty of historical record about them but so far no one adapt them into a video game where they're the main lead.
@GeeEssEff I'm sure Sucker Punch doesn't want to mess around especially with the Japanese really loves Ghost of Tsushima (it sold 1 million copies in Japan). So big chance they will write a solid story for Ghost of Yotei.
Ghost of Tsushima game was good so could be interesting.
Let's see. The first one was good, but there was definitely repetitive content. I'd argue the game was too big even.
And usually sequels suffer this fate. Horizon Forbidden West suffered from the sequel bloat as well. I hope they don't go for bigger with this sequel.
@NEStalgia What is Gravity Rush?
If it's as good as the first one this might be my GOTY next year.
Hell yeah another female protagonist in yet another game that is not high on saccarine and diabete inducing π€π» keep them coming!
@Ralizah β°οΈ
I'm glad they moved on from Jin, his story was told and I'd hate to see it watered down by forcing character motivation for the sequel. LaD:IW is one of my favourite games of this gen but they had to bend and retcon some of the stuff from the first game to make it work. Besides, I'll sew myself to the carpet if we don't see Jin appear as some kind of spirit guide when the protagonist reaches rock bottom at the end of act 2.
Red Dead Yotei - looks incredible!
@Octane It's slang for what happens when you can't afford a separate stand for your vertically off balance external disc drive equipped PS5 Pro and your Kat brushes up against it.
Ubisoft got it right with dual protagonist, there should be the option for male or female.
I couldnβt get through GOT. Not having a lock-on for combat and the scissors-paper-rock style system for boss fights was really dull and lacked depth.
However it was beautiful to look at and had amazing load times. It just didnβt gel with me as a whole.
Honestly, I really hope you can decide which gender to play as. Which sony franchises are you playing as a male now? Is it only Spider-Man? I will of course play it, I just prefer the look of an armor on a guy and to roll play when I play my game. Like Horizon, I just walk around with Ayloy looking at all the guy characters with super cool armor and wishing I could play that instead of Ayloy with tiny clothes, at least give her a big bulky around as well you know.
found ghosts pretty average was just a assassins creed knock off it was competent sure but copied so much from assassins creed, 82 on Metacritic is i guess a bout right
I really need to finish the first one, now, because this looks awesome.
Looks excellent and the anthology style is the right way to take the series. You get to keep the mechanics and style of the original with an complete new cast, new land and new story to tell. Looking forward to this one.
Damn this is cool. Pro will flex muscles on that.
@PuppetMaster first thing that came to mind when I saw the trailer was Blue eye samurai. And it's been hugely successful.
Removed - unconstructive
I am so hyped for this! And I love that they've chosen to move on to a different story.
I know people can get sick of franchises but franchise the hell out of this!
Give me one set during the Boshin war after this!
And maybe I'm just crazy but I'd love to see one where you maybe play as a Korean during the Imjin war.
Great to this at last and to see they've made changes.
Im delighted to see this is new story - the last tale was told and was perfect as is (to me).
I look forward to when we finally get to play.
GoT is the best open world game Ive ever played (that wasn't made by Nintendo)
Super excited for this one!
Removed - unconstructive
Day One. I totally understand that they did a spinoff now and holds Ghost Of Tsushima 2 for the PS6 reveal, because from what they said years ago, a sequel to GoT1 would be HUGE in scope.
So good call Sucker Punch. Now give us a more precise relesedate, because this got me hyped as heck!!
It baffles me what people find attractive in this generic Ubisoft style open world slog. All the first game had was pretty art style. Even graphics were not on par with other Sony exclusives.
@Chupa_loyzer Did you play the game? The swordfights and combat was really satisfying to be honest.
@Dalejrfanfreak Not really. Jin was fine as a character. Not dislikeable, but not exactly memorable either. The true stars of GoT was the incredible world and atmosphere, plus the pitch perfect mechanics. Jin was just an avatar to facilitate moving through it all.
@Zeke68
It's just a reused combat from Batman: Arkham series (which has also been shamelessly reused in both Spider Man games).
@LordAinsley No, we're not. This game is quite clearly Ghost of Tsushima 2. Jin's story is finished. They can't tell another one so have adopted an anthology-style progression to the universe (just like they did with inFamous Second Son).
@Chupa_loyzer If it ain't broke, why fix it?? I have never played the Batmangames so I have no idea about that, but Spiderman and Ghost Of Tsushima are 2 different worlds my friend. Or did I miss the spiderweb slinging in GoT? Damn, must replay it.
Edit: You didn't answer my question; Have you played it? Watching a YT video and feel the gameplay is 2 different things indeed.
@IamJT Oh, I didn't watch trailer till the end. Just thought they might introduced firearms because of the spaghetti Western music. lol
It's the right and braver move to start with a whole new character and story. The whole IP is refreshed and enriched by not just reusing past successes to the point they get stale.
@Zeke68
I'm talking about mechanics not literal execution.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Zeke68
How did you come to this conclusion?
@UnlimitedSevens Congratulations on making an extremely well worded and considered post. Im afraid its a rarity these days, but its a reminder that intelligent thoughtful people do still play games.
Posts from the shouters have all but hijacked almost anywhere you used to be able to have reasoned debate, so I do like to make sure I acknowledge those who still aspire to thoughtful reasoning. Its post such as yours that keep me posting in amoung the shouters and haters! Thank you, have a great day.
No idea why such a reasoned post has gone. Sorry dude.
Im hyped for this title and very glad its telling a new story.
Looks great and I like the timeline shift which should keep things interesting and fresh (hopefully)
I see the bandwagon has started already as she doesn't have a pen*s, it must be difficult for the younger generation to breathe, with so many non-concerns to worry about.
@GenialJoe same!!! Cannot wait, DAY ONE purchase.
@Vaako007 you can, as you say ,β passβ on this but personally I think you will be missing an awesome gaming experience.
But each to their own, and no judgment passed.
@MrPeanutbutterz If someone told me they knew they were working on a ghosts of tshshima sequel but didn't know fundamentals such as a new protag, a time jump etc, I think it's correct to assume they just guessed. They didn't have any insider knowledge at all.
I cannot wait to play the legends mode. I've put hundreds of hours into it. All the folks freaked at the concept of playing as a female in campaign can relax, and play a male legends character.
@Ralizah depends if she's gay and / or lame.
@Octane You speak the true true. I am down for a sequel and new protagonist but open world bloat plagued Forbidden West and hope they don't fall into the same mistake.
@nessisonett there aren't any.
@LordAinsley Not knowing the details that were announced last night isn't the same thing as not knowing a sequel is being worked on.
The safe bet was that a sequel was being worked on, sure, but now its been announced with not-so-far release date. So their assumptions/guesses/insider knowledge/whatever has been proven to be correct.
@MrPeanutbutterz Literally its a guess.
And if its a guess, what is the value of it?
For five quid I'll tel you that Activision are working on a new call of duty, there'll be a new Uncharted eventually and there'll be a new god of war. It's just a guess but it'll all come to fruition.
I cant tell you anything about the setting, protag or anything on the above games, because they're guesses. But I'll be proven right on my initial statement in the next 5 years. So I guess I'm a leaker now, I better start up a Patreon and start tweeting
@SuperSilverback One has a historical backdrop and theme, the other does not.
@LordAinsley I don't keep up with social media or leaks/rumours about gaming, can you recommend some of these purported "leakers" so I can review the wording they used? Because context to what they said is key here.
We're all thinking it and I'mma gonna say it!
She better get her butt out for the inevitable hotspring collectathon! and be as nonchalant about as our boy Jin!
Its the right move to start with a new character. What were they going to do? Do the thing where your character forgets all his skills from the previous game? I was one who didn't the GoT needed a sequel but now I'm excited!
@Titntin I agree. I didn't want a GoT sequel but I didn't consider they'd tell a whole new story with a new character. Now I want it tomorrow!
@MrPeanutbutterz Off the top of my head, Shinobi, Jeff Grubb, Colin Moriarty. It's hard to retain all of their names honestly, because a lot of them go by aliases like "duskgolem", "danielKPK"etc.
I'll say outright, there are voices in the space that I do trust. Jason Schrier, Jez Corden, Tom Henderson are all good voices and have been proven time and time again to have sources on the inside.
But a lot of these anonymous sources just cater in pure guess work based on existing knowledge.
This and Assassins Creed Shadows, want AC Shadows first though, good stuff except the price of course.
@NEStalgia Time will tell.
So far, it's about a 2 year wait between a PS5 release and a PC release - but that was before Sony started to be more committed to PC.
LEGO Horizon will be day and date PC
Helldivers 2 was Day and Date for PC
Concord - for what it's worth - was Day and Date for PC
Until Dawn Remaster (Remake?) will be day and date for PC
The Last of Us Part 1 was day and date for PC
Now, I certainly don't expect Ghost of Yotei to be day and date for PC, but it could be a shorter gap between the PS5 and PC release - especially with how well Ghost of Tsushima was received on PC.
I recently beat the first game. Yes, it's pretty for a while, but it sure was boring like most open world games. Lots of repetitive and grindy tasks and the story was hardly interesting.
I liked it somewhat, but i don't want to do that again. But, given the success i can understand them making a sequel. All i see is more of the same though and i've had enough of that already.
The art and premise are as great as ever, but they'll have to make some SERIOUS gameplay changes to interest me enough to buy it. Ghost of Tsushima got real repetitive, REAL fast. It was basically a prettier Assasin's Creed game. Here's hoping they have some new ideas for the sequel.
Beyond isnβt superlative enough lol. π
first of many game announcements coming , can't wait to see what else they've been working on.
@AdamNovice Thanks, was actually wondering if we'd get a glimpse of Jin in this new one. Pretty safe to say we won't, then...
Still extremely excited for this....
@GamingFan4Lyf First three games are co-op or multiplayer games so day one release is understandable if not necessary. The other two are remakes/remasters. So I would say standard 1-2 years until PC port is released.
@Matej But Sony also just lost $400 million on Concord. It may want to do PC releases earlier just to help collect more money.
Like I said, time will tell.
Sony could still stick with the unofficial "2 year" rule it has for first-party releases before porting to PC. And that's okay.
I think I can hold out.
My goal of getting a PC was to get out of the console arena all together. Plus, there were plenty of other titles announced during this State of Play that will definitely release on PC that can fill the gap. Plus, I there will be Microsoft releases and other non-announced games to keep my mind occupied.
@GamingFan4Lyf
You do know that 400 million figure is just a wild guess rumour right?
Super excited for this. Now my question is will there be a new Legends or will the current one be updated since it is basically a live service.
@mvhess I think you're right though GoT didn't need a sequel with Jin since his story wrapped up nicely, especially with the DLC.
Is Push Square thinking of doing anything about the blatant misogyny in the comments, or what?
The comments section are spoiling the announcement of what looks to be a great game, honestly.
They're going to have to move on from the standard map game design. I hope they don't just make a cookie cutter "more of the same" game with this. GoT was fun but for me still suffered from the map icon fatigue I get with Ubisoft games.
@Chupa_loyzer Even if it was "only" $100 million, it's a total loss that Sony is going to try to get back...somehow!
@Chupa_loyzer that $400 million claim is total BS unless it includes the cost of buying the studio. There is no way Concord cost $400 million to make.
Finally a bit of Playstation Magic hype we needed this and if this is Q1 next year, even better!
@FreasurePlanten Hey there, the best way to flag a comment to us is to use the report feature
This will notify the moderation team who will then look into it
I've got an observation about the music. In GoT Jin played a Shakuhachi flute which is a wind instrument and the soundtrack was very wind instrument based.
Now with Atsu playing a Shamisen in GoY, I notice that the soundtrack had a lot of string instrument sounds.
Removed - inappropriate
@GamingFan4Lyf Maybe, but the recent games would GoT which was, quite a few years after console launch, and Ragnarok which fits the 2 year mold-ish, so I'm still going to assume it's the 2 year thing unless it's remasters or online games. (or TLOU2 that's still missing but I suspect that's due to ND's incompetence more than a plan given the state 1 released in that made Ubisoft look good.)
Plus as long as Herman's plan is to get PC gamers to buy consoles for sequels (which is insanity) they'll make the console exclusivity thing as drawn out as they can, though Totoki may not like that, he's big on the PC push and Herman's probably in his doghouse after Concord. )
@NEStalgia I think Sony is waiting for Season 2 of The Last of Us before it releases TLOU2 on PC - killing 2 marketing birds with 1 stone.
Sony will go wherever the shareholders want it to go. If the PC push has been lining pockets, then I suspect the time between PlayStation and PC releases will decrease.
I know I very much want to play Ghost of Yotei...just not sure where I will end up getting it. FOMO could win this round.
Other than being a female lead character (which I don't mind at all) it doesn't appear they're pushing any other agendas. Game looks awesome!
@Ralizah wait what? I thought the wolf was the main character! I am beyond disappointed at this blatant dog phobia, and I demand the internet holds Sucker Punch to account. π π₯·
@GamingFan4Lyf IDK, I want to play it but still haven't even finished the first lol. Might play it this year, and be anxious for goy, but I have like 60 other backlog games dating through last Gen to get through so I'm sure I can wait for the inevitable far superior PC version that includes the inevitable dlc, and has vr mods day one π
Not sure where Sonny goes with PC. They seem as consistent in messaging as Xbox. They talk about expanding PC. Totoki told investors the pc expansion is a big part of their strategy. Then Herman keeps talking about using PC to sell more consoles, and the other CEO taking about console first etc. Seems like the same dynamic as Phil and Sarah saying one thing and Satya and Amy saying another.
Though their games don't seem to be selling that amazing in PC so that might affect their effort. Otoh got was the best ever launch of single player on steam until the once in a lifetime China only event that was wukong.
@PuppetMaster Gotcha..I did not play the expansion so I guess I'll have to add that to my list lol.
@NEStalgia I do wonder if PC gamers would be more receptive of Sony's games if Sony stopped injecting its "will" into games - or if games were released "Day and Date" when the game still actually has hype.
For Ghost of Tsushima, the PSN requirement is only if you want to play multiplayer (which makes sense) or if you want to use PlayStation Overlay - where as God of War Ragnarok is 100% required no matter what.
Sony should have stuck with optional (at worst) PSN account login.
PC gamers couldn't care any less about Trophies (there are already Steam Achievements). Nor do they care about Sony's shareholders in meeting PSN number improvements.
It will be interesting to see how well LEGO Horizon does across the platforms (for some reason I feel like Switch will be the best-selling platform, though).
Until Dawn should also be one to watch, too.
@NEStalgia Let's not forget about both Spider-Man leads, and we might as well throw in Wolverine. Also, while Kojima Productions isn't a Sony first party studio, both Death Stranding Games are exclusives, and should be counted if we're counting Stellar Blade.
Astrobot is fairly gender neutral, but I wouldn't be surprised if most everyone refers to Astro as a he. But that's a bit of a stretch.
The number of male and female protagonists start to look pretty balanced when you include those (maybe not Astro), as well as Ratchet, since there's not indication that he's been replaced or abandoned.
Clearly, we're in a cultural moment where studios want to feature women since they haven't had the spotlight quite as much as men. Sure, the pendulum could swing a bit more toward women for a while, or appear that way, but I wouldn't exactly call this a trend toward a matriarchy. It's more a trend toward balance.
@kcarnes9051 Fair point. I forgot marvel anything existed because it doesn't to me lol π.
Though it's not Sony ip or Sony exclusive IP in the stellar blade sense, it's Disney ip. Youre right but I was really thinking of actual Sony franchises, not just Disney licenses. For actual Sony franchises (forgot to include concord because the lead was clearly....err whatever her name was for a week and a half....). Still, yeah games was nothing but burly space Marines and effeminate anime dudes for ages, but humans always have a habit of overcorrecting everything until they have the same problem they started with and then do it all over again.
@GamingFan4Lyf day and date is the big one. Sonny's plan is to get people to play on console for fomo. And to a degree that does clearly work so maybe they're right. But they're also losing market on those that don't because it's an old game outside the marketing up against trendier things then it launches. If course the point was also reaching markets they don't sell consoles and then annihilated that with the PSN requirement.
I agree Lego horizon is made for switch. Cute as it is, ps and pc players already played the real game. And the sequel. And the remaster now. Why play it again in Legos? Is an odd release. Why not make a new side story at least?
Cannot wait for this game. The original is a classic and I have faith Sucker Punch will deliver again
@AdamNovice Hope we can play it like Jin's flute because I adore the Shamisen so much I love the way it sounds ^__^
@Keyblade-Dan I'm 99.99% certain we will.
