The PS5 remaster everyone has been waiting for is now official: Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is indeed a thing, and it's releasing for Sony's current-gen console next month on 31st October 2024. If you own a PS4 copy, you'll be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for $10. Check out the announcement trailer above.
During the State of Play broadcast, it was revealed the PS5 remaster brings the visuals of Zero Dawn up to the same levels of its Forbidden West sequel and more than 10 hours of visual motion capture has enhanced the title. There's also PS5 DualSense controller support, upgraded character models, and improved shaders and textures. Pre-orders open on 3rd October 2024, and there's also a PC version of the remaster.
In a PlayStation Blog post, it's confirmed all current PS4 and PC owners of their the standard game or the Complete Edition of Horizon Zero Dawn can upgrade to the PS5 remaster for $10. This offer includes anyone who owns the game via the Play at Home initiative that was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now we know there's a $10 PS4 to PS5 upgrade, how do you feel about Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered? Share your first impressions in the comments below.

Thanks Herman!
Looking good. Happy to pay £10 for a sizeable upgrade.
Like most others I was a bit cynical about this one before but I'm very happy with the improvements for that price!
HFW is still one of the best-looking on PS5 so I imagine this'll be a stunner. The fact that the VO is gonna be improved is a big plus too as it was probably one of the weaker points of the game.
For £9.99 I'm deffo giving it another playthrough.
Does that include the version the gave away for free during lockdown? I bet that will be exempt
I'm guessing that won't be applicable to the people who got the game through the Covid offer lol
$10 is a good price. The game looks incredible now (it already looked great)
@Orpheus79V @Fuzzymonkeyfunk that would suck. We own the game
…I’m quietly hopeful this will be worth the money. Wonder if they’ll do a physical PS5 release.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk was checking that, it seems like they just revoked that from peoples libraries
So...I should just pop in my PS4 disc and I get to download the PS5 remaster for $10?
I'll take the upgrade. It looks really nice.
I'm 100% for these remasters. The biggest hindrance to re-playing PS4 titles are the insanely long load times. For $10, I'm in.
I hate myself but yeah I'll upgrade as unnecessary as it is I love Horizon and the upgrade does look really good for a tenner why not. Also Aloy's looking extra gorgeous in this remaster ^__^❤️💗
This looked so good! Went from “do we really need this” to “I need to play this” in seconds. Hopefully the save data transfers and I can do my NG+
They can have my 10$
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk @Orpheus79V PlayStation Blog confirms the free version given away during COVID will be included in the $10 upgrade offer.
It wasn't needed - that does not change. Horizons PS4 is playing like a charm on my PS5.
BUT... That being said...
That price just made all these concerns wash away.
Off course I'm gonna upgrade ! :
Alright, they can sucker me in for 10 bucks.
Oh wow.
This looks...unnecessary as hell.
🤣
Meh, I will probably not upgrade this on my Steam library.
Then again...I only paid $11 for the PC version...so never say never.
Honestly I'll take this over a Days Gone Remaster. Especially since Days Gone is still a visually pleasing game, even for 2024.
I still dont think this remaster was needed but the £10 upgrade path is pretty solid
Well, hopefully Rockstar will feel embarrassed by this after they put out Red Dead Redemption 1 without changing anything for £50.
They eventually upped the frame rate but I mean that should have been done out the gate!
This here is a genuine visual upgrade and worth the price if you're a fan of the series
The cheap upgrade cost very much flipped my opinion of this Remastered edition, and I'll probably be picking this up now!
Still not interested. Loved Zero Dawn but Forbidden West was enough Horizon for me until the next game. Plus my backlog is unbearably big so no time to put 60 hours into a game I already played.
The problem is that in order to appreciate the visual upgrades, I’d have to play Horizon again.
Cool, I will be happy to upgrade as it is a good few years since I played the original and I've not yet played forbidden west. Does anyone know if this includes the dlc too as I haven't played that yet. Also I hope the trophy's don't automatically transfer over? as I would like to get them again.
@Fishysensei It's not necessary.
However a big technical issue with the original was the dialog sequences and the characters being static with dead eye syndrome. The fact that they've redone the performance capture to presumably FW's standard (where it's clear they took the complaints to heart and made a lot of effort) is quite a major improvement. Perhaps even more than putting the game in FW's engine and upscaling the assets alone would be,.
Never did I think this would be a cheap upgrade and also available to all those people who got the game for free. I hope people remember these things.
I was hoping for a free PC version-like upgrade back when that was released, but an even better version for £10 is fine by me.
@TurboTom I can't imagine they would remove the DLC.
Sony basically gave the DLC away for free to new owners after a certain point digitally by discontinuing the non-Complete version. You could buy the dlc separately if you had the base game, but you could not buy the base game. Complete also became the only edition you could buy physically when it was reprinted/moved to PS Hits.
The PC version included the DLC too.
@LowDefAl
Allow me to clarify a bit:
It looks unnecessary...to me.
I at least never felt like it was a game that could benefit from being remastered.
Not in a world where Killzone 2 deserves the remaster treatment way more than this game.
I know, I know.
I'm very much not the target audience for this one but still.
Will definitely be dropping a tenner to play this one again with the upgrades.
I will be buying the physical copy as horizon is one of my favourite franchises
Well, it was a good game, but I’ve forgotten a lot of plot points which put me off forbidden West. Maybe, if it has a new trophy list (which it should as a remaster) I’ll play through again with better graphics as a refresher before a potential forbidden west playthrough.
Honestly, after I saw it was a $10 Upgrade, own it Digital now too because of that "Play At Home" initiative (I wouldn't want to be putting a Disc in to play a Digital Download, that's why I'll always opt for a PS5 Physical over a PS4 with the Free PS5 Upgrade) I'm in 🤷♂️
Maybe I'll FINALLY make it out of that initial/tutorial area of the game 😅
Actually somewhat sold on the redone motion capture and upgrade path. Good job, Sony; you turned an ostensibly terrible idea into a mostly unnecessary luxury.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk not sure if any one responded but it says in the article above its included to upgrade for 10
Even though I am not the biggest fan of Horizon or its sequel, $10 is a fairly cheap price so can't really be upset about it getting a remaster.
@Fishysensei seeing who is working on it , i can see it being a pretty easy project since they ported it to pc. its not like they were taking up a studios time instead of working on another project, they bought nixxies as a remasters/ pc ports studio.
Didn't like the rumor back then and don't like it now that's it's official. Waste.
Will there be a physical edition?
Ten pounds. That's like the equivalent of 3 Freddos nowadays.
Will saves carry over our be incompatible?

Upgrade is quite big, went from look good to looking stellar. Happy that we get that!
For $10 visuals/frame rate sure. The artstyle already blended things well so resolution and frame rate besides the PS5 update it got sure whatever. For those it interests why not.
Did they say 10+ hours of content, re-recorded audio or new audio I couldn't understand it in the showcase?
I'm not buying this anyway but just trying to make sure I heard them right.
Have the standard edition on disk (not playstation hits copy either) and play at home complete edition digital when that was a thing (how I played it, I skipped the disk and the DLCs and got it with play at home and went eh I'll play it then went eh 20 hours, played to see enough of what each quest/other tasks in the environment is like and general gameplay is like, pass).
@LowDefAl it’s not the performance capture was redone for the dialogue sequences but has been done for the first time for them. In the original they didn’t use motion capture but instead had the models manipulated like animatronic puppets, which is why they felt so unnatural
@SuntannedDuck2 they recorded new motion capture for the dialogue sequences in the game as in the first game they simply manipulated the character models like animatronic puppets. Gave the characters in these sequences a real uncanny valley vibe. Think Disney Worlds Hall of Presidents attraction for comparison
I'm gonna replay this after the Remaster launch. I love the gameplay of HFW, but the story of HZD is just so good. Only issue I ever had was the cringy Uncanny Valley of the conversations.
Yo I’m so hyped for this they went above and beyond and for the 10 upgrade it’s a no brainer this ***** looks amazing
This is the way. Lets hope I can snatch a PS5PRO to check it out.
Oh nice! I missed that. Cool that makes it even better!
As long as they didn't tweak the gameplay to play like Forbidden West. I still can't believe what a downgrade that sequel was.
Oh yeah, I forgot how janky the NPC talking animations were. Cleaning those up is worth the price alone.
@MFTWrecks lol downgrade smh the combat in the sequel was better in every way and didn’t allow you to use one op weapon so the combat didn’t get stale at the halfway point like it did in Zero Dawn
@-Sigma- if you’re not interested then why are you here? Oh and don’t come at me with that opinion bullsh**t . Just because you have an opinion doesn’t mean you need to share it especially when as an opinion it’s worthless since you weren’t interested in the release anyway
It looks good to me for the price of a sandwich; HZD is a 10/10 game with an incredible narrative. For the 3rd game, I hope Guerrilla goes back to the style of the original; FW got pretty silly at the end.
@dark_knightmare2 Waste. Unnecessary as hell.
They didn’t mention anything about the lighting or colors but they seem way more realistic here. I was kinda bummed about the rumors of the remaster but seeing it now… it’s definitely worth $10. Will be playing it this Halloween, I suppose!
A bit weird as they just removed forbidden west from extra. Poor timing or perhaps trying to get people to buy forbidden west after playing the horizon remaster, either way, poor.
