In Case You Missed It, PS5 Pro Has a 2TB SSD Included

No offense but do we really need separate articles for every single feature of the Pro ? Its getting pretty messy and too much. We don't need 20 different articles on the Pro.

I don't want a 2TB drive built in.

I have a 2TB drive in my PS5 already. I will pull it out and put it in the Pro.

Granted if you are completely new to the PS5 generation, then yeah having it already come with 2TB has it's benefits.

But for upgraders, anyone who needed more storage as they seriously want that many games installed at once on their base PS5, would have already invested in an expansion drive.

Who is buying the Pro? I bet you 90% of buyers are upgraders.

Even for a completely new buyer, having that 2TB built in is a bit sucky. When PS6 is released, I will either transfer my 2TB drive over, or if they have moved on to faster drives, I will put it in a USB housing and use it as another external drive for my PC.

If the 2TB is built in, then all that money I paid ends up worthless when the console goes to the car boot sale.

Nah I'd rather just pay a lower price for a 1TB console and sort it out myself if I want more storage.

I have a 8TB hard drive for my PS4 games and that is full already. 2TB is just not much space given some modern games can be 130GB or more in size...

I also found out external drive on the PS4 have a 1000 games cap so that's another limit we can do without.

This seems like a mistake. Safe to assume that the 2TB is adding 100 quid or so to the price of this thing.

It's also safe to assume that the target market for the Pro is the enthusiast, many of whom will already own an SSD expansion.

Would rather 1tb and a disk drive tbh

Personally would have preferred a disc drive instead especially considering this is supposed to be a “pro” model but nevermind.

Sony just seem so out of touch these days which is sad after the ps4 gen when they were nailing it.

@Fallingshadow Would love to know what percentage of the user base is trying to install 1,000 games that we can "do without" this limit.

Nice! I don't have to buy an expansion SSD because 2TB is all I need, which saves some money. I probably spent $700 buying a launch PS5 with a nice 1TB SSD.

In case you missed it! The PS5 Pro doesn’t come with a vertical stand and wants to bleed your wallet dry by charging you for unneeded add-ons!

That's a nice added value, if only it comes with disc drive and stand maybe people will only grumble a bit rather than shocked at the $699 price.

I rarely use my ps5 disc drive so digital only isn't that much inconvenience for me, so 2tb ssd upgrade is nice. It's just, most ps5 games I played already 60 fps so I don't know what I'll used ps5 pro for, 4K is nice but not $699 nice, and I don't care about RT.

I'm very glad, that I have my base ps5 & switch (lite). I don't need a ps5 pro, next I'm most likely going to get the switch 2 anyway and focus on switch 2 games and ps5 games.

I’ll be getting one even though $700 is still a lot of money these days. My PS5 was stolen while on vacation so I was trying to hold out and see how much this was going to be. I’ll be getting this and an $80 disk drive I guess if the scalpers don’t try to ruin it again. I’m going to be broke by this, and the pulse earbuds I’ve been wanting to get. Plus one to get a new iPhone and my daughter wants a new iPhone. I guess I’ll have to work some more OT.

It is unbelievable that they did not say that in the promo video.... but why oh why didnt they leave the same disk but leave the disk drive. I would be sold then. (I do not want to even go in the stand topic.)

It'll add almost nothing to the price and for what they're charging I'd have expected more than 1tb anyway. Wouldn't be surprised to see the base PS5 bumped up to 2tb in the near future, with the next hw revision.

Oh, and id expect it to be built in, not sitting in the expansion slot. So no need to ditch what you already have.

You can probably add 2TB NVMe SSD, if not more, to the base PS5 for much cheaper. That's not even mentioning hard drives and external SSDs.

It could be, but it’d be a really weak argument. Plus a 2 TB expansion card isn’t overly expensive these days. Certainly cheaper than buying a freaking PS5 Pro.

Now we know we can expand the memory that is good.

But really shows Sony are cashing in, it should have been 1tb at £600.
Then we can decided to add more memory or buy the disc drive or buy nothing for ourselves.
Leaving the option up to us.

That is the only reason I’m pissed about the whole thing, not giving us the choice and making the price cheaper.

Seeing so many comments about the vertical stand is interesting. Everyone in my friends group keeps the fat PS5 horizontally including me. I wonder what the split is like overall.

Would have preferred a disc drive instead of 2TB. With the speed of internet (Pittsburgh, USA) deleting and re-installing games is not that big of a deal. No disk drive sucks…

@Octaslasher I agree they could say 'here is 1 space for them all'.

I don't mind broken down articles whether on the site or search engine results but it is always done for traffic not just simplifying for the audience having that 1 question among a 'here is everything article' no matter how good or bad the headings/text presented is.

Always done for traffic reasons on news sites, from the headlines to the way they present the information, to the images, it's all clickbait/intrigue to the readers/those searching for it via many methods to 'click' on the site, ads happen and so on.

Same reason we have to keep commenting on them all. It makes it better than me having like 9 part comments. XD But that's on me.

But those clicks/engagement is what keeps them going and they do it on purpose. No idea for edits to comments but for first clicks/repeated clicks on and off the same articles (not just refreshing the page or jumping tabs if it's already loaded though could) and first comments I'd say so.

@Czar_Khastik You can't remove the SSD. And I very much doubt you have a 16TB M.2 since they don't exist.

@HotGoomba Yup. I added a 2TB NVMe to my PS5 for £70.

4 years on, 2TB is the least I'd expect. Also if it cost £500 and came with the ODD I still wouldn't buy it. Oh a few games that run rough will now run slightly better cause of the GPU, but the CPU is still the same old Zen2 chip just a tiny bit faster... Nah. I imagine the GPU is probably still weaker than my 4 year old 3080. And the CPU will be a bottleneck still, Watch GTA6 still only be 30fps on this.

They could have put in a Zen4 chip at least for more uplift. Shouldn't have any compatibility issues really. Hell I paid £310 for a B650 board, a 7600, and 32GB of RAM to bring my system up to date a bit more, but in 2024 they're charging 700 smackers for a Zen2 system. Just lol.

@get2sammyb The decision to add a 2tb SSD more expensive,(cheaper than when the ps5 expansion slot was enabled though),but wise given the file sizes needed...whether if the higher resolution textures are included in the same standard ps5 game update files time will tell i guess!🤔

Unfortunately,one only has to look at the Nvidia/AMD GPU Duopoly (& typically AMD being a gen behind on raytracing tech),as far as what constitutes mid range "value" 192bit gpu's now being around $900-$1200+ (My region),depending on if you're team green or team red to realise even the "cheap" 128bit cards being $600-700 that next gen PS6 & Xbox won't be cheaper & probably more than PS5 launch prices were.😕

I mean tbh Sony could've played it smart and did a 1TB version for 600$ - and physical version for 700$. That was going to be more appealing to people than the current version.
