Treyarch has announced it's bucking the trend established by Call of Duty games of the past couple of years and won't be making the Black Ops 6 campaign available to play one week early. In Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, pre-ordering the game granted you seven days of early access to the campaign, meaning you could go all in on multiplayer come the official release date. That won't be the case for Black Ops 6's launch, with the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies all made available from 25th October 2024.
The news was confirmed via a statement handed to Charlie Intel: "This year, we made the decision to ensure the community gets to dig in to any and all modes that they want at the same time, so we are back to one massive global launch moment October 25th. As such, there is no Early Access beat this year for Black Ops 6, just the countdown to launch."
In the past two Call of Duty titles, you were incentivized to complete the campaign during that early access phase with multiplayer rewards. By completing levels, you could unlock cosmetic items and other things. And, of course, once the main release date arrived, you didn't have to decide what mode you'd dedicate your time to; you could put all your focus into levelling up in multiplayer.
Have you been hoping there would be early access to the campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6? Let us know in the comments below.

They've worded it like they're doing us a favour! 😄
There's a typo in the text Liam, 'incentivised', third paragraph 👍
Weird decision tbh.
I’ve enjoyed playing the campaign early in the past few years and getting it done before Multiplayer goes live so i’m ready for day 1.
Agree that they are not doing those playing on the PlayStation a favour, @riceNpea, however, they are doing those on the Xbox a favour as they have typically always received certain elements after those on the PlayStation. One year, there was a mode that the PlayStation had that didn't go to the Xbox until a year had passed, which rendered it pointless because the subsequent game came out at around the same time. So the wording is correct, it just won't be noticeable to those that game on the PlayStation, and it always struck me as unfair that those that gamed on the Xbox paid exactly the same for CoD as those on the PlayStation, yet received an inferior game...
@Fiendish-Beaver that was down to console exclusivity deals though, wasn't it? This isn't the same thing, I think.
Yes, it was exclusivity deals, @riceNpea, but it is still unjust for one set of fans to pay exactly the same as the other, but receive an inferior product for their money. I think what Microsoft are getting at here is that wherever you choose to spend your money on CoD from now on, you will get exactly the same for your expenditure, which is both fair, and exactly how it should be...
@Fiendish-Beaver it's still not doing us all a favour. Instead of continuing with the tradition of releasing the campaign early for all, they've chosen to do the opposite for all.
As you point out, it's not doing PS a favour, so whichever way its dressed up, there's a portion of the market that this decision is a step backwards.
Oh, I absolutely agree that it doesn't do PlayStation gamers any benefit, @riceNpea, but then it is now a Microsoft owned division, and they're not doing anything for the Xbox crowd either, only levelling the playing-field, which I think is the right thing to do.
After all, it wasn't previously done out of the kindness of Activision's heart. It was done because Sony were coughing up cash. Now it's Microsoft doing it, and instead of us getting the worse version, we're getting the same, which is how it should be...
@Fiendish-Beaver it is the right thing to do. What would've been nice is if the kept the campaign mode as an early release for all. Removing that time-served benefit wasn't something they had to do to ensure parity. Could've kept it quite easily.
Agreed, @riceNpea. It would have been nice to have early access to the campaign, as that's the only bit I ever play... 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver and I don't even do that anymore 😁👍
They're doing it cause they know the game sucks i mean look at that thumbnail i killed that guy in the last call of duty i played, he shouldn't be back.
