It’s been five long years since we excitedly reported EA was working on a new Skate game, and now we can confirm it will launch on PS5 and PS4 next year – albeit in Early Access. While this may seem unusual for a AAA title, the skateboarding sim’s entire development cycle has been unorthodox, with developer Full Circle consulting players through various closed beta tests since the project was announced.
This open, collaborative approach lends itself to Early Access, then, where players can provide feedback on the experience as it matures. It also means we’ll have the opportunity to get our hands on the game as soon as possible, which is great news.
More information on the release will be announced in the coming months, but it’s worth remembering that console play testing is scheduled to get underway later this year.
Remember, when this game does eventually release to the public, it’s going to be free-to-play. It sounds like an ambitious project; perhaps not the one single player stalwarts have been asking for, but we can understand the desire to transform Skate into a kind of online social sandbox. Honestly, we think it’s going to be popular.

Well i think i'll just stick to being a "single player stalwart" and keep playing the 360 version.
Looking CLEAN so far 🔥
Hopefully we get to rock our favorite brands like we used to.
BAKER x Deathwish 𖤐
20 hours with the THPS Ps 1 demo.
When the full game released i still played the warehouse.
Like Skate Or Die was on my C64
Punks Not Dead...
Comlete happines...
Why do modern games looks so clean? It looks so stupid and live service-y/ Fortnite-y...
Where's the proper SKATE grit?
I'm grateful for another Skate game, but since this is a heavily physics based game and modern games absolutely suck at physics, I'm not gonna have my hopes up sadly. Besides the importance of physics, it looks so bland man... What happened
I’m in if the engine is fun. Honestly spent far more hours just roaming about in 3 after completing every mission than I ever did following the story.
@McTwist now that you mention it … yeah! Where is the grit?
Thankfully for everything that puts pressure on Activision to get THPS 3+4 rolling though.
Played the heck out of this on 360. Was difficult but satisfying pulling the moves, we could call it a Skate Soulslike. 😁
@McTwist It's not much to go on, but I agree, it looks soulless. Being a f2p live service game doesn't help either. I have zero expectations here.
Definitely down for this, so nostalgic and honestly just super relaxing. Picking a spot and just trying to pull off a clean line or trick, not enough games promote solace 👌🏻
@yazzika I think the main difference is just that skating has evolved. People just film everything on their phones now for starters, the fisheye lens look is retro for a whole generation. The grit wouldn’t be authentic to skating as it is now, you’d be more realistic having TikTok videos in the game.
Can't even count how many hours I've spent playing Session and Skater XL. They're great for getting realistic lines, but man I cannot wait for this. Just hope I don't have to be forced to play with... other people!!!
I need my skateboard games to look grimy/dirty.
Anyone who has skated in a industrial park or behind a 7-11 would know it's never clean.
Nice! Felt like we would be watching the dev videos forever. Seems like they really are putting the effort into this.
Are we just going to ignore that Tony Hawk himself said he’s working with Activision again?!
Please give us 3+4 🙏🏼
@CieloAzure Mmmm tetanus
Free to play so nope.
@LikelySatan Yea this pretty much cuts my interest in the game.
@nessisonett everything you just wrote gave me an existential crisis
@yazzika Just because it’s true doesn’t mean I like it!
