Update #3: The playable demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio is out everywhere now, letting everyone get a taste for the RPG's early hours. And, as previously reported, your progress will carry over to the full release. What's not to like?
Update #2: The demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio is indeed happening; it's now available in Asia, and we're sure other territories will follow in due course.
The demo comprises the beginning of the game, and if you play it, your progress will carry over to the full game when it launches in October.
Original Story: Atlus is set to release a playable demo for upcoming RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio. While there hasn't been an official announcement at the time of writing this article, the company's South Korean arm basically confirmed that the demo is imminent through a now removed social media post. We will, of course, update this story as soon as the demo actually arrives.
It'll be interesting to see what the demo covers. Atlus' RPGs are often notoriously slow to start, and so throwing players straight into the title's opening crawl might not leave the best impression. Having said that, it all depends on how long the demo ends up being; a few hours of content could certainly hook potential buyers. Metaphor has always looked incredibly promising, so here's hoping that the demo delivers.
Are you looking forward to Metaphor: ReFantazio ahead of its 11th October release on PS5 and PS4? Make a claim for the crown in the comments section below.

Yes! And good chance to get through the opening moves so we can properly play on release day
From what I've read the demo is already out in Asia, can't wait to check it out.
Already played for several hours. You can choose either Japanese/English dub and many other text languages. Still haven’t finished the prologue yet.
I can’t express enough how excited I am just to play this game. It’s like an evolution to Persona 5 with better story (at least as far as I’ve gone through) and much sleeker gameplay. I’m playing on PS4, and other than environment, menu and combat is smooth 60 FPS.
Since data carries over, I'll give it a go. I was already convinced to get it at launch, though.
The demo already up in Asia
Around 28 gb on PS4
I really wanted a demo for this one. I’m not sure if I’m down for it or not, and I’m not feeling like taking another risk after how I felt about most games I’ve bought this year. I’m not a Persona guy, but I’ll try it.
This has been one of my most anticipated releases this year, so to get hands on before dropping the money for it is even better.
If data carries over, I’ll do what I did with FFXVI which I was also sold on. Play it like 2-3 days before launch. 😅
I'm currently playing the demo right now, downloaded it from PSN Asia. It has english & Japan sub/dub and save data also carried to full game.
So far i like it. The graphics, artworks, music, story, characters, and combat. The english dub also sounds great with the characters has strong British / Scottish accent haha. I like the MC has voices for dialogue options, which is better compare to dead silent Persona MC.
Although, i still feel like i'm playing a Persona game than a new IP. But again, it's just a Prologue.
I'm basically sold on the game already, so I don't think I'd want to play a chunk of it out context, nor would I really want to play the opening only to have to wait to continue the game - assuming progress carried over. So I guess I'd skip it?
I'm not sure if I am getting the game at launch. I rarely buy games at full MSRP, so I might not start it until Christmas.
Consdering Atlus' recent track record I'm not particularly hopeful it'll be any good, more than anything they really ought to move away from the combat mechanics being so heavily focused on hitting enemies with the elemental attacks, press turn system and all such adjancent systems just don't make for interesting combat I don't think.
You mean I'll be able to hear that banger of a combat track on my TV real soon! Hopefully there's even more amazing music throughout
Atlus really have confidence in this. You'd think they've basically put half the game on YT but for a company that's so strict on spoilers that means there's a whole heap of content we ain't seen yet.
Im cool with a demo.even if i know the game is going to be incredible.word up son
@PuppetMaster Good to know it's coming to playstation as well, as I was expecting it to be a Xbox exclusive demo.
@UltimateOtaku91 Same, let’s not jinx it ehehe
@Owyn Should be less on PS5, it has really good compressing/decompressing tech
I will definitely check out the demo but I need to play Persona 3 Reload
@Nei No jinxes today haha, it's now available in Europe and downloading it as we speak.
Available in US!
@UltimateOtaku91 As I am! Gonna miss your bot of war avatar hahaha but this is cool too
@UltimateOtaku91 iirc the Xbox deal only for marketing. I think the latest trailer still doesn't have PS logo.
I'll be picking this up at some point but I'm not sure if it'll be a day one buy or if veilguard will beat it out. The demo will be the decider I guess!
Already this is a very close second to my GOTY, Stellar Blade. Just amazing to play after the incredible disappointment that was the Star Wars open world game.
@jrt87 plays wonderfully on PS5
Not really a persona fan, but I'll give this a try. As long as the pacing isn't too slow it be a purchase down the road. Glad for the demo
Good lord the demo on Steam is 58gb. But I'll definitely download it and give it a shot.
25-ish GB on PSN, downloading now. 🥳
@jrt87 Dang. I'll have to try it and see how it runs on my rig.
@PuppetMaster I can’t find the comment where you wrote this but the demo is sadly not the same size across all consoles. It’s 27 on ps5, but 50 on Xbox which is completely bizarre.
Still gonna try it out though!
@Yousef- PS5 has that compression tech. That is why?
I am hearing the PC version has issues. Is it the same with the consoles or no?
@anoyonmus not the same, plays great on PS5
Smooth on PS5 sure, but the graphic is super jagged, very distracting!
@Yousef- I posted it in Palworld Japan released news and yeah it's 27-28 gigs on PS4/5. Not sure how Xbox got 50 gigs and that looks like a full game lol.
Looks like a bare bones port of a former switch exclusive, PS2 level jaggies, bad writing and voice acting, generic characters. I was interested but this is gonna be a hard pass.
@Fartingale I don't see any Switch exclusives that looks and play similar to Metaphor. Can you tell me what Switch games that looks like Metaphor?
Also, bad writing and voice acting and generic characters? Huh? Are we playing the same demo here?
@PuppetMaster ignore the bad attempt at being a troll
The graphics are pretty bad. This looks like a ps3 game at times. Camera movement is akward and I was bumping into invisible walls in dungeons.
@scoobdoo A lot of trolls lately. These kids probably got banned from N4G or something...
A couple of hours into the demo now. I partly agree with a couple of earlier comments about the graphics. Not bad per se, but IMO feels a bit clean, plasticy, floaty and, for a lack of a better word, Unreal engine asset-y. No granular map edges, you just kind of glide off things like the whole map is wrapped in an invisible wall to make sure you don't get stuck on scenery.
But I like the art design, characters and cutscenes. Just what I'd expect from a modern jrpg.
The story and world is very intriguing, the UI is gorgeous, the music f**king slaps and I enjoy what I've experienced of the battle system/mechanics so far.
Intriguing story so far and enough combat changes to make it its own thing. I was already sold on this game 18 months ago but this demo has solidified my decision so I went out and changed my preorder to the Collectors Edition. This demo is a good tide-me-over until I get my copy in the mail.
Also, this should be the way all game companies promote games. Great info on exactly what you are getting and a 5-hour public demo 2 weeks before release to drag you into the plot and characters.
