Sonic X Shadow Generations is speeding towards its October launch date on PS5 and PS4, and a new interview reveals roughly how long the remaster's brand new content is.
Speaking to Japanese outlet Famitsu, Sonic Team's Shun Nakamura has commented on the length of Shadow Generations, the all-new campaign accompanying the remastered 2011 original. According to the producer, Shadow's story will be "about the same" length as Sonic Generations, or "maybe a little less".
In other words, Sonic X Shadow Generations will roughly double the number of hours it takes to complete compared to the original game.
"If you play both [campaigns], you can enjoy it for a long time," adds Nakamura. "In the past, only 'Sonic Generations' was released, so it's a great deal."
Sonic X Shadow Generations brings back the beloved platformer fans know and love, but implements Sonic's moody rival, Shadow, with a new story to call his own. While the Sonic Generations portion will be largely the same as what came before, the Shadow Generations campaign is new, featuring new power-ups and abilities for the black and red hedgehog.
The game has a lot to offer Sonic Shadow fans, then — are you excited for this bumper remaster? Will you be playing both sides of Sonic X Shadow Generations, or focusing on just one? Tell us in the comments section below.

It’s definitely shaping up that way so far. Definitely know where my money is going for October.
I bought it for Shadow's campaign anyway and I expected it to be as long so I'm ok with this.
Sounds interesting I remember enjoying generations on the ps3. I'll be picking this up without a shadow of a doubt
That's great. I was expecting it to only be around 2 hours, or so
Could have sworn they already confirmed this before, but good to have assurance either way.
Woo! 4 hours! Can't wait.
That's fantastic! I might actually get the game this year now.
I'm interested in picking this up (was a big SA2 fan on the DC), but could someone give me some clarification on what this game is; is it a remaster of Generations or something completely new?
It will be interesting to see how much of it is reskinned content, and how much Sonic fans excuse that reskinned content.
so there aren't any improvements yo the Sonic campaign?
@JB_Whiting it’s a remaster of generations and then there is a campaign for shadow added on
@LikelySatan they already are in droves and calling this a brand new game instead of just (glorified)DLC
@JB_Whiting it’s practically both.
@LikelySatan this’ll be leagues above what frontiers was. That game was the definition of inexcusable.
Very good to know, cannot wait for the remaster but wish Sega chose a better name for it.
RIP kids in Google search
@JB_Whiting
It’s a remaster of Sonic Generations with a campaign of Shadow included extra.
Sega didn’t choose a good name for it though
Length isn't as important as girth
@Enuo we got ourselves a winner here. 👏
Played it again last year not as good as I remember 2D Sonic handles like crap some of the latest stages are just terrible and the boss battles are even worse definitely not worth what they're asking
@Yousef- sure! THIS will be the Sonic they spend time on. This will be the good one!
Would be a great deal if it wasn't more boost Sonic. Hard pass.
@LikelySatan I think you’ve formed the wrong impression of me or something was lost in translation, Not at all implying it can’t be bad, just that frontiers was garbage.
I’m not really invested in sonic in a way where I’d care if this is bad. If it is, I’d just have another conversation piece and something new to dunk on with my mate in DMs.
