Showa American Story PS5

This particular scribe has just learned of the existence of Showa American Story, an upcoming action RPG that seems too absurd to be true. Developed by Chinese developer NEKCOM Games, revealed back at the start of 2022, its depiction of a post-apocalyptic America is truly wild, and we can't wait to see more. Case in point, we got a look at cowboy samurai Gokou and his luxuriant blonde body hair, which may or may not have anything to do with his role as governor of Texas.

The devs provided some exclusive details to IGN as well as some truly evocative screenshots showing this world in which large tracts of America have been sold to Japan. Cherry blossom trees line the approach to the Capitol Building, the Hollywood sign instead reads "Neo Yokohama," and we see the inverted golden arches of chain restaurant "Wakudona's"; it's all definitely good stuff. Check out some choice imagery for yourself below.

This picture of masculine political potential will feature as a boss character in the game, although the devs are quick to point out Gokou is not the final boss or overarching villain; presumably, that's the noble, aristocratic figure currently ensconced in the Oval Office. In this universe, Gokou was the mind behind the sale of Texas. He's American but deeply knowledgeable about Japanese culture, pulling from both Eastern and Western stereotypes in combat, with the developer describing Gokou as "a mix of an American cowboy and Japanese samurai".
