While you might think that the humble hero shooter (see Overwatch) is starting to feel a bit played out (see Concord), we'd like to posit that's simply because current offerings don't feature enough anime waifus. Audiences today seemingly can't get enough of the colourful Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero. Why should the same concept not apply to the upcoming anime shooter Strinova?
A free-to-play, third-person hero shooter from developer iDreamSky, it boasts a unique "Stringification" mechanic, allowing your character to switch between 2D and 3D versions of themselves. As described by IGN, this can be used to evade the attention of enemies or sneak up from an unexpected angle. The core mode is called Demolition, a 5v5 offering played in rounds, with players issued points to upgrade their character in between. A closed beta is currently in progress for the game, which has been announced for PS5 and is expected to arrive sometime in 2025.
What do you think of Strinova? Do you think its anime aesthetic will ensure a dedicated player base, or is the hero shooter space just being left behind? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sounds like it’s at least trying something genuinely different mechanically.
Reads text: sounds interesting
Watches trailer: ah nope not for me
Sounds and looks awful to me
I actually think it looks quite good. Playing the frag punk beta atm and really enjoying that too
You had me at "anime waifus"
Just what the gaming world needs, more crappy hero shooters...
The gimmick is pretty cool that's the characters can become 2D, somehow reminds me of 3ds zelda link between worlds.
Not interested in hero shooter though, or multiplayer games. It will be cool if the concept is used for single player games 😃
This'll be the ultimate test of "people just don't want this kind of game anymore." If this succeeds where Concord flopped then it should paint a pretty clear picture exactly WHY Concord flopped.
“Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash” better.😎

Its too bad sunset overdrive failed bc I could see insomniac making a multiplayer shooter based off of it. I think that'd probably be the only kind of hero shooter I'd be interested in
