While we’re not necessarily here to discuss Nintendo games, we’ll forever be baffled by the Mario maker’s decision to pull support on the tremendously popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons so early. It feels like Gameloft of all companies got the memo, because it’s been steadily expanding Disney Dreamlight Valley for years now – and it’ll continue to do so through the holidays and into 2025.
Its next round of support starts on 20th November, with its second Expansion Pass named The Storybook Vale. This will introduce an entire new realm made up of three biomes, once ruled by Maleficent and Hades. You’ll meet two new characters here: Merida from Brave and Flynn from Tangled. You’ll be able to invite both to your valley, with two more to come in 2025.
“New friends aren’t the only thing you’re adding to your mystery-solving toolkit,” the overview explains. “You’ll also gain the advantage of a new tool – the Royal Net – that will enable you to capture the various Snippets that have escaped the Lorekeeper’s pages.” These aforementioned pages take the form of origami animals, which is pretty cute.
The Storybook Vale will be divided into two parts, with the second half launching in Summer 2025. It’ll cost $29.99 for existing owners, although a Magical Edition will also be available for $49.99, bundling in some additional cosmetics and Moonstones. The latter is an in-game currency which can be spent on the title’s Star Passes to unlock premium cosmetics and rewards.
If you’re not interested in spending money then it’s worth noting a big free update is also planned for 2nd December, which will add Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas to the game. More importantly, this will see the introduction of floating islands, blank canvases based on existing biomes in the game which you can customise to your heart’s content.
You’ll be able to fast travel to these islands and decorate them exactly how you want, unleashing the release’s creative potential. The developer’s also adding 16-degree rotation to the release, so you’ll have more flexibility over how you place objects, from ornaments all the way up to entire buildings. Pretty cool.
And then, moving through 2025, the roadmap teases Aladdin early next year, with Alice in Wonderland to follow in the spring. Finally, the summer will take you inside Skull Rock, where you’ll no doubt meet the likes of Captain Hook. So there’s absolutely tons to look forward to if you’re a regular player of Disney Dreamlight Valley, then. Does any of this grab your attention?

There was a time when Roadmaps were made by Michelin amd the AA.
There aren't enough hours in the day!
What a shame they didn't keep adding trophies to get a lot of players back too.
@Anke Agreed! I feel the same with a lot of these games sometimes. Feels like such a minor thing to include.
This is a game I casually play in between major games and it is always a fun time! This looks great as I always thought they should have some sort of bug catching mechanic like AC. And more developers should do these dev updates for the players, get us hyped and let us know whats coming! oh Boy!
Might have to jump back on this game. I recently went to Disney World, so I’m somewhat in a Disney mood if that makes sense.
My daughter loves this game, and it is strangely addictive, but it still annoys me they kept all the free to play mechanics after dropping plans to release this as a free title with microtransactions. Absolutely ridiculous that you still need to pay for moonstones to get premium items that can't be unlocked in game.
@get2sammyb I think they underestimate how many of us out here are trophy nuts and would pay to keep some games at 100%.
The return on them plopping in a few trophies would be massive.
Merida was a pleasant surprise I wasn't expecting was really happy to see her ^__^. I absolutely adore the new biomes in the Vale they're sooooooooooo much more interesting than Eternity Isle's which were a tad on the bland side can't wait for this to release ^__^
This would have appealed to me if it was a one off game. But this structure makes me feel like the game is forever unfinished, and I’d be paying a huge amount over time for said unfinished game. Shame.
Then to hear there are no trophy challenges for the additional parts…even more of a sense of an incomplete product.
All the costs associated with this game at least make me happy they at least sort of kept Disney Speedstorm free to start. Speedstorm almost plays more like a trial or demo now with how much of it is locked behind a paywall but I still get in a few hours a week, which is enough.
Even if this was free to start it would still seem like a lot of extra costs to me, but as a paid game it seems out of control.🤑
Banking on that Disney addiction.
This is more of a live service game really. I think they support it with more than enough free updates to make it fine. The Moonstone stuff is largely optional after all.
And the expansions are basically big DLC packs, so I think it's fine they charge for them.
Decent news I guess. If you're a fan of Disney lol!
@Jrs1 I refer to those times as the good old days. For the days within them were good. Maps from Michelin and Triple A and whatnot. Seems like just yesterday or at least a couple years ago.
@WizzNL I need extra hours in the day with all these tasks. A free to play mechanic in games is so tyring I play Gems of War it sucks up all your time with so many daily stuff it's turning in a fulltime job.
They’re missing out on why Animal Crossing is so popular, being able to help, visit & trade with friends. Or did they add that and I missed it?
@spiderc11 Yeah they did that's been in the game for over a year
