Continuing its quest to make every classic Star Wars video game playable on modern hardware, Aspyr has revealed it's working on bringing Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles to PS5 and PS4. It'll release on 23rd January 2025, priced at £15.99 / $19.99. PS Plus members get a 10 per cent discount between now and launch. Catch the trailer up above.
"Take back the Theed Palace in this fast and furious lightsaber action game. You will have the power of the Force and your trusty lightsaber to help you ward off legions of battle droids, destroyer droids, assassins, and other creatures from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," the PS Store description reveals. In addition to the base set of starting characters, this new version will allow you to play as characters that were previously locked at the start, like Darth Maul and Queen Amidala. The original cast will also be joined by 13 new playable characters like the Tusken Raider and Rifle Droid, as well as a modern control scheme to go alongside the classic option.
"We’ve made enhancements to the character models, environments, and game modes based on the expanded post-PlayStation release, while also preserving elements of the original PlayStation UI," said Aspyr associate brand manager Reid Broudy. "Enjoy smoother jumps, better balance, and new main menu art that transforms your battle from all of the original versions of the game. Additionally, we’ve included in-game UI toggle options for greater customization, and we’ve brought back Vs Mode and Training Mode from the expanded post-PlayStation release, adding depth and variety to your gameplay."

Steep asking price for this but I loved it back in the day so I'll end up buying it especially if it has trophies. Weird that I get more excited for PSX ports these days than new games. Either I'm getting older, or they were much better, or both.
Revenge of the Sith and LEGO Complete Saga and Clone Wars when
Releasing 23rd January 2024? The force has passed with this one.....
@GADG3Tx87 I agree that I am often more interested in remakes and remasters than most new games. I believe it's a sign we need many more AA games i.e. games that take approx 10 to 20 people up to a year to make. These games would be cheaper and able to take more creative risks. As opposed to the high number of generic and less interesting games I see released.
That was a great, quite challenging PS1 game. Those who played will remember the nightmare that was the Coruscant level, with that really hard platforming!! I finished with all characters, and was always relieved when I completed that level. The final bos was no joke either. But it was a solid game, with a engaging combat system.
@freddquadros I still remember that frantic fight with Darth Maul and how fast you had to move your fingers just to keep up with him, let alone damage him.
@FlyingPig
Completely agree and it's something I've said to a few younger people that weren't around in the 80's/90's that games then had more vision and creativity because they could afford to do it. Games weren't as expensive to make back then so they could take the chance on a flop.
That being said I remember a time when it was said that in those days if a game sold 100,000 copies it was considered a big success. Now a game that doesn't sell a million could be considered a failure.
But yeah. There were so many weird and wacky ones back then that we were spoilt for choice and everything felt like a unique experience because of it. I'm tired of pushing for photo realism. Give me the likes of more Shovel Knight. Remember Nightmare Creatures? And Gauntlet Legends? Those didn't sell well but fantastic games.
@GADG3Tx87 A lot of generic shovelware also in those days, mascot platformers, by the books racers etc however in general totally agree, as an arcade game fan i feel this gen has totally forgotten the genre (or more likely as you say, afraid to take the risk) Last great time for me was the xbla games on the 360 (wish i kept my jtag lol)
If it's got online co-op, I'm in
Aspyr seem to be bringing every Star Wars game back to PlayStation apart from the KOTOR games.
Physical retail version?!
Oh wow, I loved this game on PS1!
Hoping we'll eventually see the G.O.A.T. Super Bombad Racing.
As a kid, I remember this game having some really annoying/cheap platforming deaths. That got frustrating sometimes. That said, I remember having a blast playing it with friends over. A lot of Plo Kloon fans started here lol.
@GADG3Tx87 Oh Yes!! Spent hours playing through this at my.home and friends' Excited to see how it holds up, and the games were better than hehe Old School Gaming was the best!!
Me and my brother used to play this loads. Though yeah I do remember it being very challenging I don't think we even got close to the end.
Jar Jar is the key to all this. If we get Jar Jar working...cause he's a funnier characters than we've ever had.
So many vistas!
