Capcom is still making fairly significant improvements to Dragon's Dogma 2's technical performance on PS5, if some players are to be believed.
The game's latest update dropped overnight, and while the official patch notes don't mention actual performance enhancements, fans think that the open world RPG is running better than ever.
To be clear, the patch notes simply mention that in the game's options menu, the available graphics modes have been renamed 'Prioritize Graphics' and 'Prioritize Performance'. Capcom's also provided a table that shows resolutions and frame rates for both modes.
But again, some players — particularly on Reddit — are convinced that the frame rate has been given a noticeable boost. The developer says it sits between 50 and 60 frames per second when you 'Prioritize Performance' (at 1728p resolution), while 'Prioritize Graphics' gets you between 30 and 40 frames per second (at 2160p).
We've just booted the game up ourselves, and performance does seem to be relatively smooth — but having not played Dragon's Dogma 2 for quite some time, our impressions may not be totally accurate.
Still, it's clear that Capcom's done a lot to improve performance on PS5 over time. The title runs far better than it did at launch back in March. Now we just need that DLC announcement!
Are your adventures in Dragon's Dogma 2 still ongoing? Stop to count those frames in the comments section below.

So basically a locked 60 on the Pro?
HELL YEAHHHHH
Perception is reality. Players feel like the game performance has improved despite no evidence that the patch addressed it. Goes to show depending on the frame of mind you're in you can convince yourself of anything.
I'm slightly annoyed by the patch choosing to rename the modes and then go on to spell 'prioritise' incorrectly 🤷♂️😊
I'd still recommend playing with the 30fps cap in "graphics" mode if you're going to be playing on the base PS5. That RTGI is stunning and removing it really changes the feel of the darkness at night and in forests and caves. Part of the magic of DD is venturing out into the pitch black with a tiny lamp. Get an OLED for this one too, you won't regret it!
Great news for PS5 Pro as well - they're pushing for every frame they can, even if there is clearly an issue somewhere with the design in engine.
@riceNpea I convinced myself that the last patch didn't actually increase frame rate and that I imagined it but then DF analysis showed it was in fact running 2-3 frames faster 😂 the ol' double-bluff.
Then I will be watching for the performance analysis on the Pro Enhanced version when its tested in a few weeks time - seems like locked 60fps should be more than possible.
I did play the demo when they released it and dumpster fire was being kind to it imo.
@Loamy those dodgy developers! that's systemic discrimination in a nut shell ☺️😆 percieve things as worse and the evidence points at improvements. All you've got to do now is stick with your original thought and don't believe them! 😆👍
I personally think the frame rate problems have been hugely exaggerated. Not once did it ruin my enjoyment of the game.
I think it's time for yet another playthrough. I bought and played this at launch and either never experienced the frame drops and bugs or was just enjoying the game too much to notice.
@Loamy 30 fps with oled displays is making me nauseous. Always in game mode without extra motion smoothing.
Definitely sounds like a nice use case for the Pro.
Space marine 2 - even without a patch sounds like it could be another one that will benefit greatly.
My disappointment here is the lack of push on optimisation for these games. I don't believe for a second they couldn't have tweaked things some more, although I guess they may have had other just as arbitrary targets they wanted to hit for the games.
@Kiefer-Sutherland most frame rate problems are greatly exaggerated to be honest.
As are 'muddy visuals'. The language is all so hyperbolic for clicks etc where most people - especially non-enthusiast gamers would never know the difference.
I wish I had never gone down the frames and resolution rabbit hole.
Tried the demo after a so called performance improvement patch, and i'm not gonna lie, it was awful. In Graphics mode, in Performance mode, with or without RT, the framerate was not satisfying at all for me.
I've got it set for graphics and the 30 is holding better then ever. I will give Capcom credit and say they really have improved performance but it has taking nearly a year to it what isn't good at all.
@Medic_alert I’ve just learned to switch off from it. Unless it’s extremely choppy or just downright bad.
But I always think companies should keep offering a choice of 30/60 (for those who are legit sensitive to it) rather than just their ‘artistic vision’ of 30
@Loamy ⁸ Yeah the RT is too good to drop hence why i'm sticking with graphics mode.
I will downscale it and play it on my CRT TV as it was meant to be played
I haven't played it for a while but I'll jump back in soon and check it out.
I still can´t believe they didn´t announce a fat DLC expansion at TGS
Instead Crapcom gave us 20 hours of MH Wilds showcases, even though everyone is already going to buy that anyway
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I absolutely agree. I think that is a big cop out from certain developers at the moment - particularly in the Xbox studios.
I have always believed that 1440p or there abouts was a really good resolution for most games and 4k was massively overblown in importance terms so to entirely cut off the option of better performance for those that feel similarly seems silly.
@riceNpea I can't tell if you're joking but "prioritize" is also correct.
@Medic_alert
Ive said it many times before, but it really depends on the person - I feel sick and/or get headaches at much less than 60fps, and can see big improvements up to 90fps (then diminishing returns up to 120).
Others genuinely cant really see much above 40fps or dont find 30fps to be a problem at all.
I am a fim believer that Performance modes should be locked 60fps (infrequent minor drops are ok) with the option to uncap if you have 120hz VRR TVs, and everthing should be reduced/tweaked to achieve this; on the other hand graphics modes should be locked 30fps with all the bells and whistles they can add while maintaining 30fps. Everyones happy then, and anything else is just bad design, or poor developers.
@Melee_Ace not if you're speaking English it's not. It's correct in a form of English that has its origins in sticking two fingers up at King George II and the English establishment, and wanting to create an American version of English specifically to underline their independence from England. It's not a natural drift of the language based of time and distance like how Spanish has subtley changed in South America compared to Spain. It was engineered to spell words incorrectly.
@riceNpea I'll choose Freedom's English! 🤘🦅🤘
😂
@riceNpea Flippin' colonials, eh! 😂
Still, I reserve my main hatred for those, and they appear to be mostly Brits, who mispronounce "aitch" (H) as "haitch". First up against the wall when the revolution comes...
@GamingFan4Lyf It's what the Helldivers speak, so fair enough 😁
@sanderson72 you know, the Brits are the worst at English 😄😄
@riceNpea We're clearly missing Stephen Fry narrating LBP to educate the masses.
@sanderson72 I fully support Stephen Fry and Stannis Baratheon in their endless and important quest to correct 'less' when it should be 'fewer'.
And anyone who's profession is to write should not be saying, 'should of'. Saw it here in an article a couple of weeks back 😮😄
