Dreaming of the day Sony comes to its senses and allows games like Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Scarlet on PlayStation without the censorship (well, they’ve now completely delisted even the censored version). Until then at least the Switch version exists.

i don't know what sort of changes have been going on at sony of late. a few years ago, they felt it ncessesary to censor trish' back side in dmc v (i think that was reverted back later with a patch?). doa xtreme 3 was never released in the west for being culturally inapproproate or something...

fast forward a few years... we are in an era with more DEI politics and censorship controversies than ever before, and yet, sony now has no issue with stellar blade and venus vacation — games that are pandering to certain demographics with sexual innuendo and fanservice to the point of no return... i mean, some of this stuff is quite cringe inducing.

so, my question is... what in the actual heck changed at sony to completely turn off its shame meter? is it as simple as MONEY?!

@Porco That’s what I’m wondering too. Just a few years back they required Idea Factory games to be censored on PS, and now there’s stuff like this and that Stellar Blade update. Really curious when the change was…

But otherwise a successor/sequel to Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball to just cut the volleyball out? I mean the romance elements of past games were hit and miss (1 at least, 2 & 3 are probably way better) I assume not looked into them at all.

I like to play dating sims/visual novels to laugh at the dialogue. I don't mind them immersive but I do find fun in watching or playing any I risk it on. But I enjoy a good Gal Gun or researching Gun Gun Pixies, Demolition Girl or other cultured games.

I think they have a fair place for something different out there. Some odd themes/presentation but fun gameplay or 'other immersion' why not. It's fair to experiment. There is an audience for these types of games themes, presentation and gameplay.

if horror or some violent games can get people to try things why not. If Gal Gun can be someone's first rail shooter then a House of the Dead why not?

Glad some can still make them. As clean, as out there as they can be.

If Postal 4/the newest Larry games can be on PS store and toned down (assuming, or else they stay on PC) then the rest of these cultured games can be on there too. Hopefully not as toned down.

Companies have reputations or staff that think a certain way sure but I mean, sales are sales. If they don't want niche games sales clean games or cultured games that's on them, they just don't want those sales then clearly. Plenty on PC getting the money that consoles won't ever see because well deeper themes/presentation and would never be on PS/Xbox but still they have sizeable audiences for sure.

Enough toning down is necessary though for sure but if enough spice and still reasonable to get on the platform why not.

If ecchi anime can be sold and rated then sure, if too extreme then I get it, it's that step too far for sure.

it's nice to have a relaxing game, enjoying it with some cool characters in cool locations, immersing ones self, why not.

We could all use a digital vacation right? Why not.

@LavenderShroud your guess is as good as mine. maybe they took notes from nintendo (when they too stopped caring about maintaining the family friendly facade) and opened the floodgates on the eshop haha. the accountants did the math: sony is better off letting it all in than not, if it means their revenue numbers go up.

Ah yes, I remember now. A big mess when it was cancelled over here and the Asian one was censored by Sony. My bad, I thought Fortune a scarlet were delisted everywhere. Nice to know some people can still enjoy it, even if in its mutilated form.
