Sonic X Shadow Generations officially launches today, 25th October, 2024, and it's already performing extremely well. In a press release, SEGA confirms that the new title has already sold more than one million copies.

As reported by Sonic Stadium, the figure is the total across all platforms and includes physical and digital sales. Even with all that in consideration, a million copies sold on launch day is an impressive figure.

SEGA also highlights the game's global launch and support for numerous languages, which will no doubt have contributed to the strong opening day. On top of that, the three-day early access for pre-ordering the digital deluxe edition will certainly have incentivised fans to part with their cash.

The game is made of up two halves; the first is a remaster of Sonic Generations, which enjoys a resolution bump, solid performance, and one or two neat additions, while the other half is Shadow Generations — an all-new game starring the edgy antihero, built on the foundation of Sonic Frontiers.

It's a great double feature, though admittedly we think Shadow's campaign outshines the original in many ways. You can read more in our review.

As well as this game, franchise fans can look forward to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 — the movie — due for release in December. It'll introduce Shadow to the story, voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves.
