PlayStation Begins Pre-Orders for PS5's Chroma Collection, Horizon Remastered, More

The indigo is pretty sexy to be fair. Though they don't seem to have it in base PS5.

I love that Teal coloured controller and plates but as sony are shafting OG adopters of the FAT ps5 i wont be able to make use of them and i dont think the wife will be too happy with me pre ordering another controller as ive just preordered the 30th anniversary edition and the PS portal too. Im already on thin ice and that could just cause it to break 🤣

I was tempted til it only said for slim models.

I don't see the sense in jilting og PS5 owners. Surely that's the majority of the consoles out there, no? Are they expecting us all to upgrade just for plates? I don't get it as usual.

I have a buddy on Instagram that paints designs on Control Pads and PS5 cover plates. I personally only get him to make me designs when I think of something that will be cool and he always comes through. I have a OG PS5 and he made me some Destiny 2 Plates along with a control pad themed around the Witch Queen expansion. It’s a whole lot better than the official stuff, that’s for sure! 😀

Spend your money on what you like. But to me, spending that amount of money just to make your console "friggin' blue" seems like a waste.

I like that chroma pearl controller, looks clean.

The wording on the PS Direct page for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is odd. It's suggesting that you can use the PS5 physical version to play on PC.

So Sony is just a hardware company now? PS VR2, Portal, 30th anniversary, Pro, Chroma. Have they announced that many new games this year? I mean what new games have they announced this year? Like, any?

@zupertramp Or they just don't have the fab process for those plates running anymore, whereas with the Slim plates, it's just a case of a different dye into the plates already being manufactured for the consoles.

I have a Demon Slayer vinyl on my PS5 plates so I won't be getting any of these, but those controllers I definitely want. Il probably get the Chroma Indigo one first.

Finally a chance to spend some money. It feels like an eternity past since the 30th anniversary promotion

I'll stick with the midnight black, slims my ps5 down visually and black never goes out of fashion.

@Intr1n5ic More controller colors at that show then first party games, i kid i kid, i had to. The cool kids always say that when PS or Xbox release new controllers.

I too like the chroma Pearl. But i think i will leave the Pro stock white. Maybe a controller tho. I love the 30th anniversary pro but i ain’t spending that on it.

@Kidfunkadelic83 I hear you man. Got me the 30th anniversary controller the other day, but I would have been tempted to grab one of these teal babies, if I hadn't. Was also so close to getting the 30th anniversary portal, just because, haha. Had my eye (half seriously) on the pro bundle, and thought the portal was the next best thing!

@MrPeanutbutterz yes and not having that fab process is a conscious decision. you're supposing a world where these can't be printed, which doesn't exist.

@Ravix Are those screenshots for real? Or is that a joke? Because the original looks far more realistic. The remastered version looks so shiny and plastic. They have removed all the detail such as age lines and skin blemishes and replaced it with a smooth, glossy veneer. And what’s up with his beard? It’s like he has dyed it with Just for Men to get the grey out. Please tell me that is a joke.

@Ravix are these pics for real? The remaster does lack details and looks unnatural. Have to watch comparison videos and see. Either way not willing to spend more money on them. Horizon are very impressive games, however it left me cold on an emotional level. Just couldn't care about anything happening, not for a lack of wanting to.

Nice move Sony not including the "fat" ps5s. Just like 80-90% of systems in the wild.

@Stevemalkpus I mean, the fact I want my console in this colour scheme is the only joke element, unfortunately 😅 beyond that I really wish it was a joke, as it looks like a bad filter on a phone! But it's taken from the Digital Foundry analysis which uses the official remaster footage. And it can be seen in the PS Studios trailer too, still glowing inexplicably, but without the side by side showing how the old game looks better for character models.

I suppose the real joke is that anyone thought this was a good idea and that they then managed to get it past anyone without being told "No! Bad, Dev. In your bed!" 😭😂

Went for a teal controller, no plates as I've only got the original model, pity it's not coming until January (no idea why, but I'll likely forget I ordered it by then and it'll be a nice surprise)

@zupertramp A conscious decision because money, which is the driving factor of any decision like this.

I mean, I don't necessarily agree with it (I've zero interest in replacing my OG plates, but would prefer others to have the option), but it makes total sense from a business perspective why they have (probably) retired that process.

If true, that looks terrible. The remaster makes him look like an action figure! I haven't seen a remaster this bad since FFX made Wakka look like the Cheshire Cat.

If they had the indigo cover for the OG PS5 I’d consider biting. The controller is really nice too but I just got my Astro Bot controller lol. I bought the Astro controller then they revealed the anniversary controller and this. They’ve been cooking.

So any ideas on when we can order PS5 Pro faceplates or Freedom Wars Remastered for PS5?

now we know why sony opted for such a plain/generic colour for the base model and has not created any additional SKUs for people to choose from 4 years into the cycle.

@Porco Consoles are always plain/generic colours though? And "we've know" you buy alternative plates for the console for years.

@Kidfunkadelic83 I'm with ya 100% man. I have yet to reveal to my better half that I have two new fancy anniversary controllers on the way AND a vanilla PS5 Pro. I can feel the glares already! It's like they want us to spend the money on important stuff like the house or a savings account... Madness, I tell you!

@MrPeanutbutterz these days, yes. it essentially stopped with the ps3 era, but even ps4 received multiple colour varients including black (base), white, camo and gold. other colour varients were game specific.

that said, the ps2 had an amazing selection (taken from wikipedia):

"Several variations in color were produced in different quantities and regions, including ceramic white, light yellow, metallic blue (aqua), metallic silver, navy (star blue), opaque blue (astral blue), opaque black (midnight black), pearl white, sakura purple, satin gold, satin silver, snow white, super red, transparent blue (ocean blue), and also Limited Edition color Pink, which was distributed in some regions such as Oceania, and parts of Asia"

it's sad those days are behind us now. instead of selecting a colour you like, you are expected to pay an additional premium on top of an already overpriced console.

can't sony at least give us the most basic choice: white or black SKU out of the box? no excuses for that.

@Medic_alert I'm not quite sure what you're getting at though, it's the same exact compressed video source as the original game that doesn't look s*** right next to it 😅😅 it is literally a side by side where the old one looks like a real person, and the new one looks like a filter on IG, regardless of if it's on YT or not.

Anyway, It is representative to what I saw of the video as the character models do look worse to me, whereas the world looks better. Hopefully they don't look like IG models super edited selfies in the actual game, of course, but it seems more like an art choice to make them look like this rather than "bad compression"

@MrPeanutbutterz well you gotta spend it to make it, or so i hear lol. anyway i'd mount a better counter argument but it's not that serious really. just disappointing to have gone into this gen with expectations of swappable plates to get all of 5 basic colors in roughly 4 years (and no I will not dignify the camo option by including it).

@Medic_alert they do all look a bit plasticine-y, to be fair. Roth is definitely the worst of the bunch though. I do think Aloy has a more gormless look about her, too. My main thoughts on it are, I'm all for making games look better, but if the cost is making the characters look airbrushed too, then that is not a cost I'm willing to accept. Hopefully it's just a random art style choice, but I never stuck with FW, so don't know if that suffers from the same weird less-than-human look. But it may also be why I didn't stick with it. At the time I just thought "i'm not feeling it" and I didn't know why, as it was the same gameplay as the first and the world looked great(er)

I'm going to try out HFW again when the pro is out to see if it sticks. I really hope this wasn't why it put me off first time though, hopefully I just wasn't in the mood for it 😅 and hopefully they tone it down a little or it's less obvious in the actual HZD remake too.

All I know with the video is I saw what I saw and it deeply offended my senses (exaggeration, but only slightly 😅) and I'm always happy to ramble on about games haha.

@Porco Those consoles weren't the norm though. You could walk into any number of shops and you'd be stuck with the standard colours a lot of the time.

Sure, you have to pay extra for the plates, but that way you get to swap them out of you want. Know how that worked in the past? You bought a whole new console.

Guess I need to start calling my ps5 the phat model.
