PS5, PS4 Fans Are Worried Cash Rewards Have Been Removed from PS Stars 1

There’s increasing nervousness among the PlayStation fanbase that PS Stars may have been nerfed. As many of you will already know, purchasing games on the PS Store rewards you with points, which can then be exchanged for digital items or – crucially – funds for your next transaction. But as of right now, the option to exchange points for cash has been removed.

That’s the case for us, in the UK, and many others at the time of writing. Some say they still see the option – in both Europe and USA – while others claim the previous $5 and $20 options have been replaced with a $10 exchange. It apparently costs 2,500 for the $10, so there’s been no reduction in value.

We’re going to assume this is a bug if it’s not been removed from everyone’s account, although PS Stars continues to have all sorts of technical issues. Earlier this year, it was inaccessible for weeks while Sony’s engineers worked on it. Furthermore, there’s still no way to display the digital rewards on your PlayStation profile.

We like the idea of PS Stars in principle, so we hope the Japanese giant doesn’t abandon it. While many have scoffed at the rewards, the fact there is a way to earn money back on PSN purchases – when previously, no option existed – is a positive in our book. Let’s just hope this sudden removal is an error, and isn’t foreshadowing a wholesale removal of the feature.
