For everyone reading this article, PS2’s operating system will be a source of nostalgia. It also could be quite a frightening place – especially when your favourite game failed to boot. Usually a quick breath over the back of the DVD and a rub on the shirt could fix even the most scratched copy of GTA: San Andreas, but it was always a stomach churning moment waiting for the logo to appear and the blurp to confirm your game was going to boot.
This upcoming indie survival horror Please Insert Disc digs into that, as it sees you “navigating the underbelly of your game console to restore its functionality [and] waking something in the process”. The inspiration is obvious here, as the operating system in question is an exact replica of the PS2’s.
Unfortunately, it looks like this game is currently only announced for PC, although given the obvious PlayStation interest we hope Sony can convince the developer to bring it to the PS5. It seems like a really interesting idea for a game, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.

It was only a worry to me if my tdk dvdr didnt boot 😳
My PS4 Pro is currently rocking the official PS2 theme.
Please insert disc
Digital PS5 users start sweating profusely
That's such a cool idea for a horror game. I'm really curious to see what they do with the idea.
I used to repair PS2s back in 2003/2004 - this looks awesome.
i never quite got why people were terrified by the red screen of death back then. for me it was just one of those facets of the system that looked kinda cool. this is a really cool idea for a game though
"even the most scratched copy of GTA: San Andreas."
So I wasn't the only one who thought San Andreas was the most scratched game back in the days. Lent my new copy to a friend, who lent to another friend, came back really scratched. Bought a second one used - came heavily scratched, bought a third used - came fairly scratched and I think I stuck with that one.
Would need to see more gameplay of this first.
It's too real for me - My PS5 was complaining about an unreadable disc only last night.
Turns out my toddler took it out by accident and my Mrs returned it to the console upside down.
What a fun idea.
Love the idea of this! Shame you won’t be able to play this on the PS5 Pro though 😏
What sort of a monster scratches game disks?! 😳
**OCD trigger warning**
Doesn't even make sense. If it can't read the disc and giving a disc read error, there's already a disc in it. "Insert disc" makes no sense.
@TheArt Ah yes, the I can I borrow this disc from you "friends". I have a friend who borrowed a DVD (in mint condition) and when I got it back, the bottom of the disc was covered in what appeared to be stew maybe (?). I was horrified and disgusted and didn't expect this from him and the fact he said nothing about it. I only checked the disc a week or so later out of a "better check my disc's condition" curiosity. After that, I thought - won't lend him DVDs any more. The funny thing is too, if that had been me, I would have replaced his DVD. 😢
@Gravity_Bear Tsk some friends!! We're all adults now, nobody borrowing games no more, everybody minding they business.
@TheArt Indeed. And I have a lot of digital games, so no lending those out.
@TimeDelayedGamer love your avatar
@Barrymore Cheers! Colin the shopkeeper from Xenon II Megablast... Those were the days...
It should be like meat free food, if you don't contain the meat, you can't have the shape. Same goes for games. If you describe your game has having PSX aesthetics, you shouldn't be allowed to release only PC... 😅
After enough PS2 type samples in EDM to Gamebox 1.0 (was not into that film at all) being a GTA clone idea and a few others for a 'game world' type Indie film yeah I don't know about this.
If were Reality Fighters or Photo Dojo or others then I mean how much to go on there.
But if the inter-workings of a console and it's own computer world thing then I mean I don't mind things like that.
If the horrors of a disk error then I mean sure....
So Astro's Playroom or like those Intel 90s computer ad I remember where it pulls us into the computer past the monitor or other stuff?
Or Coded Arms and fighting the problems inside the computer or other things that did that inside the computer type stuff for TV/movies in the past?
Either way could be cool in it's own way I like these kind of things but yeah depends how they go about it.
