Astro Bot was the second best-selling game of September 2024 in the USA, only bettered by football simulator FC 25, one of the most popular releases of the entire year. The popular PS5 platformer launched on the 6th September, giving it the vast majority of the month to accrue as many sales as possible — both physically and digitally — landing it in the second spot.
As previously pointed out by Circana correspondent Matt Piscatella and Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry.biz, Astro Bot was selling better "than basically every new 3D platform game in the last 10 years" across Europe, excluding only the Super Mario series. Piscatella reinforced this for the USA, where its first week of sales was only beaten by NBA 2K25. When the entire month is considered, the Team Asobi platformer has gone on to outsell the basketball title.
Astro Bot has also sold better than the Nintendo Switch exclusive The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Space Marine 2. With its first month of sales alone, Astro Bot is the 25th best-selling game of 2024.
Talking hardware, the PS5 console was once again the best-selling system of the month in terms of both unit and dollar sales. The same goes for the increasingly loved PS Portal, which was the best-selling gaming accessory of September 2024.

Damn…Space Marine didn’t even crack the top ten!
Wow stunning success
Man Astro must be selling super well then. I have to wonder though why Sony hasn't said how many copies its sold. I feel like it has at least sold 1 million copies by now
Even if digital sales were included to bump up NBA 2K25 and Zelda, Astro Bot being in the top 10 is great news, especially for an unknown and unproven IP in mainstream terms. It sharing the same chart that includes sports, Zelda, Star Wars, and Harry Potter is awesome to see.
Astro God for the Win
Beating Madden, NBA, College Football as well as Zelda and Star Wars that's big. Well done!
Glad to see Astro bot selling good I expect a surge in sells for the holidays plus after it wins awards at the game awards
How is NBA 2K that low?
Astro beat Zelda, Star Wars, and even Madden? Holy cow that's big. And it's also the 25th best selling game in 2024 for USA.
Combine this result with EU, i think it safe to predict Astro Bot sales numbers at the range 2+ million copies. With holiday comes up, it could be even higher.
@Fighting_Game_Loser Sony probably gonna announce the numbers at their financial report along with a couple of games like Helldivers 2, Concord, TloU 2 remaster, HZW remaster, Ghost of Tsushima PC, and Lego Horizon.
The big takeaway is it outsold Madden. Madden! IN 'MERICA!!!
@PuppetMaster you included Concord there as a joke, right?
Astrobot deserves all the success it can muster. I hope it has a long and strong evergreen sales curve too!
Super happy for Astro Bot. Absolutely loving the speed run levels that are giving me an itch for faster times that I've never had before. Hope it goes on to have all the success in the world for how superb of a game it is. Shocking that Space Marine 2 didn't place higher considering all the praise and steam numbers it had initially, not to mention the fact that it's a multiplatform release.
Nice! Hopefully we see more efforts like Astro Bot.
Great result for Astro Bot!
@Shad361 Digital sales aren't included for 2K25 which is hurting its chart placement a lot here.
@Markatron84 Half joking. But i'm not surprised if Sony say something about it in their financial report since the game is a big failure with $400 million loss. Sony can't hide it from their shareholders which i'm sure many of them wants to know what Sony gonna do with their live services project and who's gonna responsible for that loss (Firewalk Studios and Hermen in the chopping block?).
Well-deserved success! I hope we get more Astro Bot and other games like this.
Tough times
last year switch console sales were down but last year sony had record console sales so it makes sense they would drop this year.. xbox console sales are irrelevant.. they are not competing in the console wars..
More good news for Astro, and gamers.
Look at our boy keeping company with the sports games.
I'm glad it's doing well, it's an amazing game. I must admit I was a bit worried last month when it was mentioned that it hadn't started very well
Very rarely buy DLC.. but I'd be in day one of they sold expansions.
HELL YEAH GO ASTRO GO!!!!!!! ^__^😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@Liam Croft
Why do you compare it to Zelda and Space Marine, they released way later that month, plus Zelda numbers do not include digital sales. Bad article.
@NoHope it’s how it’s always done.
Because you can only use the information that is available. And this is what is released.
At worst astrobot would drop to 4th. Which is pretty good for a platformer on one console vs the big sports franchises.
Great to see for Astro Bot. Hopefully it'll hold strong in October as well. The holidays will be interesting. Definitely the kind of game that could appeal to a parent who's buying the PS5 for a young kid.
@PuppetMaster yeah, you're right. I suppose it does have to be addressed. If a game they made loses a few hundred million dollars, they can't just sweep that under the rug.
Astro toppled Madden & Zelda. Well Deserved! It's one of the best games of the year. I kind of feel bad I forgot the new Zelda even came out. Lol! Too many good PS5 games out.
Astro Bot is not top seller, it's EA Sports 25 FC, we are talking about USA, a country where soccer is not a top sport.
And NFL 25 & NBA 2K25 is behind of them.
