A PS2 game released in 2001, if you've played the original Silent Hill 2, chances are you're no spring chicken. That said, there are many, many new prospective fans in the world, and it is to those impressionable innocents we direct this warning: Bloober Team's imminent remake appears to have broken street date, with physical copies popping up, along with gameplay and story spoilers, in the wild.
A PSA we first saw raised by Eurogamer, over on Reddit, images of Konami's glorious discs have begun to emerge a full week early, allegedly purchased ahead of the game's official release on 8th October on PS5. Considered one of the very best horror games ever made, Silent Hill 2 is the first game (but certainly not the last) this scribe can remember being too scared to play, and we'd hate for some of its spookier moments to be spoiled.

I wanted to make a joke about being Silent but I dont feel like it.
At this point I'm more surprised when games aren't leaked early.
@Realist Yeah, it’s not a hill worth dying on.
@SoulChimera I had 2 lined up but my brain got a little foggy.
Maybe this is meant to add an element of realism to the horror. Now you’ll be horrified of spoilers. Genius marketing.
I wish, instead of games leaking early, the reviews leaked early. I don’t want spoilers on the content of a game, just a summary of its strengths and weaknesses.
I never got to play this one originally so I hope it turns out great. As long as it's not 70$ and trusted sources gives it a thumbs up then I'll get it for sure.
I like the disc image, it reminds me of PS2 discs
Someone's going to get fired.
I enjoyed the silent Hill games when they first came out but I'm not going to bother again I don't think. This remake looks good but dosnt really look amazing to me.
Well that's a Blooper.
When are the reviews supposed to release?
Well if you pre-ordered it. Best of luck trying not to get spoiled. Can definitely ruin a $70 purchase.
I'm struggling to understand why people even care for this? Its Konami and Blooper, it will be a miracle if its good.
@Medic_alert The HD collection is bad like really really bad.
***** Konami lost the original source code for SH 2 & 3. So they gave the unfinished code to Hijinx Studio and pretty much asked that small studio to complete the game again which was nuts.
In the end, the HD collection released with many technical issues that shouldn't exist if Konami had the original source code. And iirc the poor Hijinx Studio closed their door because the HD collection sold badly.
If you want to play SH 2 & 3 then i suggest buy PS2, Xbox, or PC version. I'm sure you can get PS2 or Xbox copies pretty cheap at retro game store. But stay away from HD collection.
No spring chicken?
Cheeky bugger
@Medic_alert iirc HD collection for Xbox version doesn't get patch like PS3 version. So you could try the PS3 version if you really want to taste the original SH 2 & 3. But despite the patch, it still look and plays pretty bad compare to the original game.
But i think you should just wait for the remake. I have the feeling it will be pretty good like 7-8 out of 10 good, not as good as the original game, but at least much better quality than HD collection.
@PuppetMaster yeah we’re stuck in a “pick your poison” scenario. Either emulate or get a ps2. No other option.
I remember playing the first Silent Hill on PS1 and the sequel on PC. Two of the most cherished memories from my younger years of gaming. Unfortunately, with time I have found it increasingly harder to finish horror games, despite being one of my favourite genre.
@Yousef- Yeah. I'm just baffled with how on earth big company like Konami can lost the original source code for their games.
Now i'm worried with Suikoden 1 & 2 HD collection quality especially after the delay. The trailer looks good but who knows with the final product quality...
@PuppetMaster this makes me absolutely on my guard on what “the catch” is with delta. I’m not denying it cant be good with no setbacks, I’m just saying you can’t pronounce Konami’s name without saying “con”. 😆
@vikramsingh I recall as a teen leaving my job early to buy SH1, I walked into town and a?tiny indepependent retailer under a railway bridge to pick up an import copy they held back for me. I must have been fairly committed to get it
@DennisReynolds not to ruin your day but early impressions i've read say it's good, the only problem being minor visual glitches and bugs. i'm guessing it'll be around the 80s metacritic-wise though it's a bit early to tell.
It's not fair to write something off before release because of your far from universal personal feelings.
Love the art on that disc. If you know, you know 🤭.
I'm hyped and looking forward to playing even though I still have the PS2 version and HD remaster the remake models look stunning. I'll probably play as far as the hospital, save it and go back in 5 years when I can deal with the trauma of the nurses. 😆
@Yousef-
For me, nothing beats the authentic experience of the original console. Emulation just can't match the "feel" of that no matter how shiny you make it. I still play my PS2 using retrotink upscalers and the games play great on a modern TV.
@Loamy same, two friends for me, and one is an og fan. both say its great so far.minor criticisms only. i'm very excited now. haters should just stay out of the conversation, but hey ho, it's the internet and opinions are like bumholes.
@nicc83 Exactly! Lol you took the words right out of my tired and old 40yr old mouth. What a cheeky little upstart! Back in my day etc …
My very first paycheck ever was about $128. I cashed it, went to Wal-Mart, and bought a brand new copy of Silent Hill 2 as well as a Greatest Hits copy of Final Fantasy Tactics since I had only ever borrowed it up to that point. I had enough left over to get some gas, buy a couple Jr Bacon Cheeseburgers, and put a few dollars away. I was 16 at the time, so balancing school with a job was new. What wasn't new was playing a game every chance I got, and Silent Hill 2 had my full attention for weeks (to the detriment of my grades...though I did read Death of a Salesman and write an essay on it in a single night - got a B too). It's one of my favorite games ever made - but I'm not in a hurry to buy Bloober's rendition. The enhanced PC edition has been my go-to for years. The remake will stay on the market for a long time and see some pretty drastic price cuts (and suspect some improvements as well). The game that has my attention for day 1 is the physical release of Conscript that releases the day after. I suspect that one will be much more limited like Signalis. I'll play that in the mean time.
@jrt87 Yeah I know exactly what you're talking about. Keep it consistent at least! I'm always willing to give something a chance no matter what.
Konami are trying to claw things back at the moment, I'm a huge fan of the company from the legendary days. I'm happy for them to remaster and remake their classics, considering they seem to be doing a good job of it right now.
Will they ever be back in the business of blockbuster brand new titles? That remains to be seen, but i hope so. Licensing their IPs could be the way to go.
As for Bloober, They're unfairly hated for some bizarre reason, they have their own thing - they make atmospheric horror leaning games, which I think they're good at. A bit light on gameplay, but thats by design. Konami chose them to do this for a reason, and i don't think that's down to short-sightedness.
People were playing the PC version for weeks. I mean there was a Spanish dude blatantly streaming it on twitch.
Jelly, checking in 🙋♂️
@Realist You're ahem...a bit over the hill to be joking about it.
"There was a hole here, in the game delivery security...
It's gone now"
@Realist are you sure that's the Hill you want to die on?
That art on the disk is amazing.
Now I want a physical copy.
Wow, nice leading picture 🙄🤣
@Tasuki Well, that's the normal course of the gaming industry, anyway. Produce a game. Fire everyone. Work on the next game and hire a new team.
