It was an absolutely colossal week for new physical game releases, and in the UK at least, Silent Hill 2 and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero were the biggest winners, securing second and third position respectively. Metaphor: ReFantazio also did really well, debuting in seventh.
As is always the case with the UK charts, we must underline this only represents a small portion of the market. Recently, it was reported that an enormous 75% of British game sales are now sold digitally, so you’re looking at roughly 25% of the market here.
Still, while the ever-present EA Sports FC 25 couldn’t be beaten in first position – with an overwhelming 71% of its units sold on the PS5 and PS4 – it’s really great to see the new releases doing well. A special mention must be reserved for Steel City Interactive’s debut boxing sim Undisputed, too, which quietly debuted in fifth position.
While we don’t have sales numbers for Silent Hill 2 just yet, we do know that Metaphor: ReFantazio had sold one million units worldwide on launch day, although Atlus combined shipped physical units and sold digital copies to determine this milestone. Meanwhile, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero sold through three million units globally in 24 hours.
The real takeaway here is that the new software appears to be selling well, which is a refreshing story after a year of layoffs and turbulence. Let’s hope the games industry continues to thrive, as we can probably all agree we just want the medium to be healthy.

Nice, I haven't been able to get a physical copy of Silent Hill 2, so I'm going to bite the bullet, pay more and go digital as the next shipment is apparently end of October.
On a side note, how does Mortal Kombat still go hard?
I saw BLUEY was on number 19. 😊

I'm hoping SH2 sells well, the game is amazing and Bloober Team deserves some success for it. Hopefully this could also enable them to make SH1.
Is the fifa 25 71% digital included or just physical?
Because if it’s digital/physical that’s a huge number, but physical only probably much smaller % than I’d expect (due to sheer number of series S v X)
How are people so bad at reading the article?
This is just a PHYSICAL sales in UK Market.
See this paragraph:
"As is always the case with the UK charts, we must underline this only represents a small portion of the market. Recently, it was reported that an enormous 75% of British game sales are now sold digitally, so you’re looking at roughly 25% of the market here."
So it doesn't really paint a picture on how a title is performing.
Metaphor is literally all I think about right now. I'm completely obsessed with that game. Really well deserved how well it's doing. I can't get enough of it!
Metaphor is selling faster than any previous Atlus game to date, attracting a surprising amount of mainstream attention online, and Silent Hill 2 appears to be succeeding. Astro Bot sold reasonably well. Live service rubbish like Concord and Suicide Squad crashed and burned.
Despite everything going wrong with this industry, I remain hopeful.
This site continues to bang the drum that 75% of sales in the UK are digital without any caveats - it's nonsense as it takes no account of the physical second hand market.
@Korgon Same here, Metaphor is all I'm playing, everything's so 10/10, art, sound, gameplay etc. It's just so neat riding your sword instead of running around town recklessly like an idiot, that's some nice immersion.
One hell of a month for games and you even have the Diablo 4 expansion that i'm trying to juggle in with it all.
@MatthewJP would also argue that considerably more games are released digitally these days with no physical copy available so it scews the figures.
I'd be more interested in the break down on a title by title basis, as that will provide the full picture on how the market is moving (e.g how many copies of EA FC 25 were physical vs digital etc).
Overall though, it's good to see new games selling well. Those sales for Dragon Ball are crazy good! And I'm pleased to be one of those that has picked up metaphor (a game I am very interested to see the sales figures for re Playstation vs Xbox)
How embarrassing. Mk11 still selling better than MK1.
Oh my God that mario kart 8 is never gonna die I swear if there not working on a new one for the super switch ima riot 😤
Nice to see SH2R at no 2 but because of new releases now Astro Bot at no 12. Oh well, at least plenty of people are still buying physical copies.
Latest news that SH2R digital sales + shipment is 1 million copies
