Sony’s got dibs on almost 10 minutes of PS5 footage from the upcoming Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. To be fair, for those of you who’ve been following the game, there’ll be few surprises here: it’s the NES original, presented in the Japanese publisher’s stunning new engine.
You get a tasty mix of high-resolution sprites and modern 3D graphics, which makes for a really unique look – albeit one that’s fairly commonplace now, in the aftermath of Octopath Traveler and other re-releases like Live A Live.

This gameplay includes some overworld exploration and a handful of battles. Remember, perhaps confusingly, a bundled remake of Dragon Quest 1 & 2, presented in this same HD-2D style, will follow in 2025.
There has been controversy surrounding this remake recently, as some of the late Akira Toriyama’s original artwork has been edited to cover-up the female warrior character. That led to the series’ veteran creators ranting about America, although they later clarified that mistranslation had taken their comments out of context.

Although I dislike the first person view during attack phase in battles (which I know is used in the original game), this looks amazing and I'll surely buy it when the price is right.
Seems like a great remote play game.
I might wishlist it.
not watching the trailer as I know I'll buy this day one. Just want to express my disapointment for the censoring. I don't think this game will benefit from an E rating, if that's why they did it.
Eh… hopefully they will fix the overworld music restarting after each battle…
@McBurn
Censoring old art is always gonna be a boycott. How dare these new generation chumps dictate what's worth showing or not
@AgentGuapo I don't think it is?
Anyone know if the story is being expanded/updated? This game looks great, but i'm assuming the story is a bit basic with it being so old. In saying that i've played and enjoyed older rpgs with simpler stories when i was younger. Only Dragon Quest games i've played all the way through are VIII and XI. I tried VII when it orginally came it via import and i dropped it.
@__Seraph It will be expanded, though looks like the core of it is the same as the original. You get to see flashbacks to your father's adventures, a new monster arena, and probably other things.
Just a month away now. Can't wait!
Looks great, can not wait to play it.
@Loamy They'd probably have to ditch it and start over.
@McBurn Supposedly some of it is the ratings board in Japan has gotten stricter. Not sure if it's true. Also, it is known some of the changes were made before Toriyama died.
Either way, I'm ready for this!
@Czar_Khastik Who are you and what have you done with our sarcastic friend!? 🤨👀
@Shepherd_Tallon I really need to make a second account to avoid freaking you out 😅
Super excited for this. More DQ games are welcome.
@McBurn it's odd since there going for an m rating with the next game in dq12
