Balatro and erdtree should not be there
Happy to see Metaphor up for the big award, even though it won't win.
Pretty good indication of the quality of Sony's year when two PS5 exclusives are in the mix.
Balatro is not going to win it.im happy astrobot.final fantasy rebirth and black myth wukong is in it.word up son
Elden Ring DLC over Silent Hill 2 all because Geoff hates Konami, if you don’t laugh you cry I suppose, happy to see Balatro get recognised, I still think it should be FF7 Rebirth walking the award but apart from Wukong or Erdtree I’m happy with any of the others winning.
@KillerBoy what’s wrong with Balatro?
I really don't like Erdtree being nominated. Feels wrong.
Otherwise, great list. Feels like Silent Hill 2 missed out for Erdtree, though.
Remakes and dlcs should not be here
Voted for Rebirth, as I am sure it will take the nomination, but personally don’t think it deserves to win. Haven’t played anything else apart from Balatro here, so can’t really offer a reasonable alternative option…
I’ve only played Balatro, Erdtree and Astro Bot. I’d probably give it to Astro. I put so many hours into Balatro but it just doesn’t feel like GoTY and Erdtree (whilst amazing) was DLC.
Silent Hill not even being nominated is complete bs. So tired of the Elden Ring circle jerk
Sad to see Stellar Blade no goty nom.
Shadow of the Erdtree is going to win. Not because it deserves to, but because FromSoftware still has to be treated like a little baby getting it's work put on the fridge.
Personally I felt Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth was a better game than FFVII Rebirth, it had a brilliant combat system and lots of engaging side content, the job system was pretty clever too.
From these I'd go with Astro Bot, a great platformer that I just wish used its own ideas a bit more instead of leaning a bit too much upon other ip
I don’t get why a DLC like Shadow of the Erdtree is nominated in the first place? Should be the spot for Silent Hill 2 Remake. I hope FF7 Rebirth wins but do not believe in it.
Balatro deserved the nomination. I am super happy with that.
Personally my best game from these ones is Astrobot. Loving Refantazio but still not even close to finishing. Wukong deserved the nomination too.
FF7 Rebirth is the only one I don't understand why reddit and stuff are saying should win. Yes the game is great, gameplay is still super fun...but I don't get what scenes people say have good voice acting. They are almost all CRINGE. For real...The story is also confusing and you spend like 15 hours doing nothing...you just go from point A to point B and fight people you know nothing about...it's a confusing game. Also the open world activities become repetitive fast. But hey I still enjoy the game a lot...I just think there are like 7 or 8 better games this year.
Stellar Blade is missing...
Balatro ia great but not GoTY and DLC should not be included....
especially the Full Game already won and thats great... but twice?
it's a shame for Stellar Blade and Silent Hill 2R, they would be a better option instead of Balatro en the DLC of elden ring... At least that's my opinion.
I'll vote for FFVII Rebirth. I like Astrobot but it was kinda boring
Very sad to see erdtree here... i love elden ring, but the dlc doesnt deserve to be there
Silent Hill 2 getting snubbed whilst a DLC get nominated is a travesty. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is my pick (closely) over Astro Bot.
@CsMs2o
totally agree. Stellar blade is MY GOTY and my first and only platinum.
Astro Bot or Rebirth for me but i wouldn't be shocked if Elden Ring gets it again.
@LuDaurre At least Stellar Blade didn't get snubbed for soundtrack.
Stellar Blade should have been on the list. Easily in top 3 with FF7, and Astrobot. Also Like a Dragon was better than Metaphor
I'm all for DLC being included (ok.. maybe they should have their own category), given how substantial some additional content, like Shadow of the Erdtree and Phantom Liberty for example, have become. Those are like whole new games and better than a lot of full games in my opinion. A lot of work also goes into projects like those and I think they are worthy of recognition. Shadow of the Erdtree made me fall for Elden Ring all over again and it was glorious.
Uninspired to vote tbh
The fighting game category is actually insane. A F2P mess that launched in a worse state after already being taking down and winning the award originally & a collection of old arcade games over UNI 2 and Rivals 2 is insane
I know a lot of people say Silent Hill 2 should be instead of erdtree but i really thought Helldivers 2 would have been on there.
Really hoping Rebirth wins, it feels like the most high value game nominated imo. Graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, characters, story, everything just feels top notch. If that doesn't get it then hopefully at least Metaphor grabs it but I highly doubt that.
Shadow of the erdtree really shouldn't be up there. Not just because it's a DLC either, it just wasn't really that good.
Also the indie category is kind irrelevant when one of the nominees is also nominated for best game.
I feel like Stellar Blade, Silent Hill 2 and even Infinite Wealth were snubbed for GotY.
@AFCC I respect your opinion entirely but you can’t trash FF7 Rebirth for it’s storytelling and acting then say how Wukong deserved it’s nomination when it’s far FAR worse in those aspects.
There should be a "Best DLC" category. Seems really stupid to have DLC in the running for Best Game. It even felt weird when Blood & Wine won best RPG, back in the day. If you can't play the DLC as a standalone, it shouldn't be considered a full "game."
Voted for Astro bot in every possible category. Game deserves to win big. Also voted for helldivers 2, I have over 200 hours in it.
Black Myth Wukong is there, waiting for the guy who said it wouldn't be nominated because it's not woke.
The actual greatest games are Hellblade 2 and Neva by the way. Not that anyone cares for outstanding quality.
I feel Wukong has been massively propped up by weird folk who seem to think it is a savior of gaming taking a stand against "woke". I enjoyed it for what it is but beat the snow level a few months back and really not feeling the motivation to go back and finish it
@AFCC u fight people u know nothing about lmao what ff7 been around I think we know who we fighting the voice acting was great what are u smoking
Omg zenless zone zero for best mobile game pls! Give me my polychromes
Aside from that if I can bother signing in to vote, it'll be half astro half ff7 lol
Knowing the Game Awards they're definitely going to suck up to From Soft for Shadow of the Erdtree, which feels very out of place. Also interesting that Balatro is here considering the other indie games that released this year that are considered the best that can be offered, Balatro is technically lesser in reviews that Animal Well & UFO 50, so that seem like an interesting inclusion
@MeanBeanEgg ain't going to won lmao
@C25CLOUD Nobody talked about it winning, I talked about being nominated.
Hopefully Astro Bot wins.
Balatro and Astro Bot being nominated is hilarious.
While I enjoyed Erdtree, I don't think it should be on here. I am just glad Veilguard isn't. I half expected it to be as it's quite clear the nominations are often suspect with these Ads marketed as award or expo type shows.
@KillerBoy Balatro has more new ideas than any recent AAA game, just goes to show how mang gfx whores we have amongst us 🤣
@get2sammyb Yeah. I've just voted and I notice that Stellar is nominee for best action game along with wukong. and best soundtrack along with ffvii... kinda difficult for Shift Up even though Stellar OST is amazing.
@NapoleonDynamite Astro Bot is amazing and it sits at 94 on Metacritic.
Astro Bot deserves Game Of The Year it won't get it but it bloody well should
The fact that you can't play shadow of the erdtree without owning Elden Ring means it shouldn't even be eligible also if it or Balatro wins I'll never watch the game awards again.
EDIT: Black ops 6 can suck it as well.
For all the complaints about lack of new IP or first-party exclusives, Astro Bot is both and seems to be neglected in these kinds of discussions. Winning GOTY would be nice
That indie list is FIRE.
@MeanBeanEgg Good for it. Doesn't change my opinion.
@LuDaurre gratulation on your Platinum then
well deserved Game!
@Vovander games it’s a card game. There’s no way that’s going to win goty. Yakuza or stellar blade deserved that spot.
I can’t wait for Ghost of Yotai, Death Stranding 2 and Metroid Prime 4, but Grand Theft Auto VI has to be my most anticipated game!
Oh and Game of the Year? There’s only one answer… ASTRO BOT!!
Unicorn Overlord snubbed. Not even the music category.
@CsMs2o Thank you, you're very kind
Still wakes the deep should of been in the best performance, the voice acting is amazing. I voted for Rebirth for GOTY. Stellar Blade has to win best sound track for obvious reasons!
@themightyant Agree 100%
I’m really happy Balatro was nominated, though it has no chance to win. I’m rooting for Rebirth, but I’ll be happy if Astro Bot wins too. Erdtree, Metaphor, and Wukong aren’t GotY tier games, imo.
Oh and Banishers was robbed for performance. Red Mac Raith deserved a nod at least.
Get in there, Elden Ring: SOTE.
From Software coming for Sony like:
"Ready or not/
Here I come/
You can't hide/
Gonna find you/
And take it slowly/"
Jokes aside, as I said in a previous article, this has been a poor year. The amount of quality games have been few and far between. I'd go as far as to say this is the weakest year of GOTY nominations in a LOOOOOOOOOONG TIME.
It's a shootout between Elden Ring: SOTE and Astro Bot.
If Elden Ring wins it, PushSquare will have a field day with all the comments haha.
@TicklefistCP but it's on strategie games and good chances for that!
That's now ten straight years that Sony have brought a game of the year to the table.
2015: Bloodborne
2016: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
2017: Horizon Zero Dawn
2018: God of War & Marvel's Spider-Man
2019: Death Stranding
2020: The Last of Us Part 2 & Ghost of Tsushima
2021: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
2022: Horizon Forbidden West & God of War Ragnarok
2023: Marvel's Spider-Man 2
2024: Astro Bot.
I know that Shadow of the Erdtree is larger and more in depth than most games, but "Ongoing Games" should be for DLCs. At this point, I think it's fair to have a "Best Live Service Game". That being said, Astro Bot taking the top spot is laughable. I'm hoping for FF7R or Wukong, but I would be more disappointed if AB won over SotE
Erdtree shouldn't be nominated at all for GOTY, but what else can you expect from this joke of a person and his show.
Definitely just gonna be skipping it this year and watch the trailers on YouTube after; not even gonna bother giving this guy an engagement. The quality and integrity of this "award" keeps deteriorating each year.
I enjoyed Astro Bot and Rebirth, but my personal favorites are Infinite Wealth, Metaphor, and Stellar Blade. Plus the all have great sound tracks! Rebirth was great and all, but the last couple of chapters really went off the cliff... Still haven't brought myself to getting the platinum.
Astro Bot was also fun, but I was pretty much done with it after 20 hours. It was a great 20h experience for sure, but I didn't have any real reason to go back like other platformers.
No Helldivers 2 for game of the year?! Are they nuts?!
@wildcat_kickz Best remake, while one is at it.
@LuDaurre
Congrats on your platinum trophy.
I've got plats for Tlou (PS3 and PS4), Uncharted trilogy (PS3), Dead Space trilogy (PS3), Batman Arkham Games (PS3) and much more. In the end, I realised trophy hunting was more of a hindrance than anything so I quit it and PlayStation.
@Oram77 agreed, I'd honestly be most disappointed if Astro or Rebirth win here. I can't really think any memorable tracks in Astro (not to say it didn't have any, but they just didn't really stand out in my mind) and Rebirth is mostly just remixes of the OG or Remake, which again... Nothing wrong with that, but to win over a completely new original sound track would be sad.
Anyway still...Best Art Direction is between Erdtree & Refantazio. Best Score&Music could be Refantazio easily.
@Wario_Waha thats sad to hear, maybe you just stressed yourself to much ? I love Platinum hunting - no i even 100% everything.
But i play games i feel like playing - if i want a grafical novel - i do so. If i want Stellar Blade i do so. And sometimes i need 10 years to finish a Game, because i just didn't felt to finish it or play it serveral times straight away. Still the statisfaction to finish a game with all secrets and efforts is just the best!
They really picked some random performers this year for best performance. Kaiji Tang as Ichiban in Infinite Wealth deserved a nomination. Outside of Max Mittleman as Red XIII it was the only performance that truly seems outstanding.
As for GOTY my list is in order FF7 Rebirth, Metaphor Rephantazio, Balatro, Infinite Wealth, Astrobot. DLC absolutely should not be in the running for GOTY (especially for a game that has already won it like in Elden Ring)
@CsMs2o
Trophy Hunting is fine but it can lead to an unhealthy obsession.
Besides, I have far more important things to put my time into than "replay the game and finish it on the hardest difficulty" then "finish it without dying".
Each to their own. I'm very happy as a Nintendo gamer. No trophies. I just play a game that I like when I want. Happy days.
I think Erdtree will win and the final World Premiere is Bloodborne related (e.g. sequel, remaster/remake, movie).
Seems like Palworld has been given the Hogwarts Legacy treatment and has been crowned "Most Controversial Game" this year or "Too Controversial for The Game Awards".
I also think Rebirth might do a Spiderman 2 from last year and get nominated for a bunch of awards but not win any.
@Wario_Waha understandable and thats absolut fine ^^
ppl sometimes just stress to much, if it becomes to much work than fun - better stop.
And your right some trophys feel more work then others, thats why i take so long.
But others just motivate me more to play the game to the fullest. Tho i tend to play MP or other 'short fun' games on another acc sometimes to not ruin my fun.
Also having Switch and a Gaming PC beside my PS, makes it sometimes esier to choose games on platform its best to enjoy.
@Oh_fiddlesticks Well in that case you could say the same for Best Action / Adventure Game category (Astro Bot is nominated in both) and Best RPG (with three crossovers: Final Fantasy, Shadow of the Erdtree and Metaphor).
While none of the games on the GOTY list would be my GOTY, there are some interesting omissions. I would think Silent Hill 2 and Dragon’s Dogma 2 get nominated for the GOTY list, but at least those games are getting love elsewhere.
A dlc been nominated for goty, yeah not a chance,
I'm surprised after all the yakking and unwarranted praise Dragons Dogma is in just 1 category which it won't win.
Stellar Blade for beat action for sure !!
@AdamNovice Yeah Sony is also the most nominated publisher this year as well with 16 nominations and Astrobot & Rebirth both have the most nominations with 7 each.
Rebirth is my favorite this year, hopefully it'll get a win or two.
Dragon Age getting zero nominations is pretty funny after the whole song and dance the press did to make the game sound like a masterpiece and a commercial success - neither of which were remotely true.
agree with others saying Infinite Wealth was snubbed, that was an awesome experience. I would still give it to Rebirth though with Metaphor being a close second. Wukong was very good but has a lot of frustrating elements that brought down the score for me
All The Joke Awards 2024 Nominees Revealed.
No thanks.
@AndyKazama Agreed. I'd vote for Astro Bot over it as Goty, but Stellar Blade is still great. It's wrong that DLC is there instead of it.
The same as every year, the usual. AstroBot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth make sense amidst that the JRPG saga sequel never made profits on the PS5.
If Shadow of the Erdtree wins GOTY this entire award show is null and void. Its such a dumb decision to have DLC get nominated for GOTY.
Steller Blade should be in the GOTY category as well, Astro Bot is awesome, pure fun, other titles in the GOTY seem a bit random...
I feel they have changed the rules just to give Eden Ring DLC the gong
Shame Infinite Wealth wasn’t nominated for GOTY. They probably won’t win anything, but it’s in my Top 3 alongside Rebirth & Metaphor. I’m probably going with Rebirth as my GOTY though. Briana White is my pick for best performance. She portrayed Aerith brilliantly. My most anticipated game is between Persona 6, Yakuza 9 and Hades 2- where two of them haven’t even been formally announced 😂😂
At this point, they just need to have a DLC, Remaster/Remake, etc category. I’m sure Elden Ring DLC is amazing, but it shouldn’t be nominated for GOTY IMO
