BioWare's always been quick to share player statistics for its games. In particular, the developer used to spark heated debates amongst fans whenever it revealed data for Mass Effect. And while we doubt that these early points of interest for Dragon Age: The Veilguard will prove very surprising, they still provide some welcome insight into the character creation process.
So, to start with, class selection is actually a very even split. Mage barely wins out with 40% of players opting for magic-based combat, while Warrior and Rogue are at 30% each.
Next up, boring old humans are the most popular choice for Rook's race, at 43%. Elves are second with 40%, while Qunari — in all of their horned glory — have been chosen just 11% of the time. Dwarves come in at only 6% — but that's probably heavily impacted by the fact that dwarves can't be Mages.
And then there are factions, which decide your hero's background. At the top, we've got an even 24% split between the classic Grey Wardens and the edgy Shadow Dragons. After that, it's the Antivan Crows at 16%, the Veil Jumpers at 15%, the Lords of Fortune at 11%, and finally, The Mourn Watch at 10%. The idea of spending your days in a giant necropolis isn't all that appealing, we suppose.
Other stats include 'Sea of Blood' being the game's most deadly quest. It's an early main story mission with some surprisingly tricky combat encounters, so that makes sense.

As always I go human warrior because I have no imagination 😁
Who makes Mages?! They're so boring! Rogue always! Dual wield! Mages become too powerful in any iteration of the class.
@Mikey856 Nope. Because they usually don't become too OP and make the game a little less fun. In my opinion, anyway.
I made a warrior but it's so boring to play, the thing is I cannot reroll 20hs into the game, so I'll have to stick with it.
@AhmadSumadi I thought the same about Mages in this game, but then I tried the orb and dagger weapon combo they get alongside their (in my opinion, quite boring) staff, and it changed my mind. Really fun if you spec into it!
(But yes, it does seem quite overpowered.)
I wonder why Qunari were only chosen 11% of the time?
Mage for me.i play a mage on dragon age inquisition.so i will play as a mage on dragon age the veilguard.word up son
Damn, I chose to be an Elvish rogue for the Antivan Crows and it’s been fantastic. I hope they implement a NG+ because I wouldn’t mind trying out new classes and factions to choose whilst keeping my stats. And let me just say this — I think the game is great, and the writing is much better than what a few cutscenes spread on the internet give it credit for. It’s not perfect, and it can have some Marvel-esque one-liners, but there have been some peak BioWare moments as well.
It kinda creeps me out how they publish this stuff. Like, why do they need to publish the statistics of what players choose to do? I could understand in an MMO, but not a single player game…
Human Mourn Watch Necro mage here!
@LavenderShroud In the Life is Strange series they show what other choices players made as you wrap up a chapter. I think it’s kind of cool
@Secryt Catherine did that too…Hmm. I guess it’s fun for some things…? I feel like maybe Telltale might have as well, but it’s been awhile.
Made an elven Warrior with the Veil Jumper background
Antivian Crow Human Rogue that looks like Link.
I went with a Shadow Dragon Elf Mage, 'cause I wanted to be able to call down lightening and do the magics!
Human Mage that looks like Matt Damon with NA Male Voice and only does comedic responses. The most punchable protagonist ever. I hate him so much.
I went Qunari mage this time around. I wanted to play as a Qunari in inquisition but they always ended up with pinheads once i got out of the character creation.
When I eventually play I'll most likely be a warrior. Since I'm not a big fan of how the Qunari look in Veilguard (loved them in Inquisition), human it is.
Tried out all 3 and in the end chose Warrior, but if I like the game enough by the end of it I might start another run with the mage in a couple years^^
Guys this site has got very bad lately, it's turned into an advertising arm for Sony. This comment will be deleted soon but leave this site please its not here for players best interests
@Blaze215 Why because they're covering the PS5 Pro and how games are upgraded for the new tech? Because they covered SIEs financials which are positive? It seems like they're doing their job.
@Blaze215 it’s so bad you’re clicking the articles and commenting, driving their engagement and profits…brilliant move.
You know you could just leave…
Guys I am right
@Blaze215 I mean, you are on a website that’s dedicated to covering PlayStation. And the Pro just released, so I’m not sure what you’re bothered by. But, if you’re bothered by all of this, you may need to reevaluate what you consider important to you.
I thought dwarves finally could be mages after The Descent DLC from Inquisition, but I guess not.
I went human warrior grey warden because that's what I always do first in Dragon Age. Next run will be elf mage, probably mourn watch background because I absolutely love the Necropolis and my guy Manfred.
I went with a human Shadow Dragon mage. The orb and dagger made the mage so fun to play with compared to previous titles. I'm always going with a mage in the first playthrough but The Veilguard's mage is the best in the series.
@Kraven SkillUp said his clips were representative of the whole game, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out they really aren't.
I went Qunari Warrior Mourn Watch. It's the first time I've enjoyed a warrior in this series
Elvish rougue, often my choice.
Game is fun, but as many have noted, writting is really rather poor despite being pretty decently acted. It takes a shift of expectation to accept this and enjoy what they delivered, but if you can put that issue to one side theres a decent action rpg here.
Damn! So my female Qunari Rogue must really be in the minority... 😂
@ThomasHL I agree; I don’t think he played the entire game. I could be wrong, and his opinions are his own. I just don’t see or hear what he is, aside from one or two lines/cutscenes.
As a person playing rogue on hard mode, it's not all that great. Not being able to block so having to do either perfect parries (with 5/5 difficulty for timing on hard mode) or dodging all the time is annoying. You take massive damage from being hit so trying to time a parry in the midst of a storm of special effects isn't a great idea. And the fact there are no rogue things to do, like picking locks, means rogues are just fiddly warriors.
>the edgy Shadow Dragons. After that, it's the Antivan Crows at 16%
Surely the Crows are the edgier ones? The Shadow Dragons are nice people freeing slaves. Also you have Dorian on your side who's about as edgy as a puppy, albeit a snarky puppy.
