Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has shared that the second part of Square Enix's big remake project will not be treated to any DLC so the studio can fully focus on getting the third and final game made. Talking to the Daily Star, he said that while the company hears the "desire" from fans for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth DLC, Hamaguchi actually questions whether that's what they really want.
He added: "I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible." To that point, Hamaguchi explains that Square Enix has "decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can."
There was a four-year gap between Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4 and 2024's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but fans were kept engaged through an Episode INTERmission expansion that launched alongside the PS5 version of Remake one year after its initial launch. This served to properly introduce Yuffie, who plays an important role in Rebirth. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won't receive the same treatment, as Square Enix goes all hands on deck for the third instalment.
Were you hoping to get a bit of Rebirth DLC in the future? Wait another four years for the final part of the remade plot in the comments below.

As expected, and I hope can shorten the development time for Part 3 to less than 4 years.
Good. The DLC on the first one was shoehorned.
Let them focus on getting this finished.
Cool. I'm looking forward to the definitive and multiplatform trilogy release.
I havent played the original but in general Im all for getting the final game out asap.
Thought this was already known, that they weren't doing DLC. But it is a shame we won't get a Vincent/Cid Intermission DLC like with Yuffie.
This was a Daily Star article?! I can't believe it still exists!
@Oram77 It kind of makes sense as I think the only reason we got the intermission was due to the trilogy spanning a generation. If Retold (or whatever they call 3) was going to be PS6 then you would probably get a vincent intermission.
As it should be. Can't wait.
Give me part 3 already!
I mean come on, there shouldn't of been dlc in the first place.
It's literally based off of one game from the ps1,
It's like how they managed to make the hobbit into multiple movies when it's literally 1 book.
These are great games but it still really is milking 1 game. Let's just get it done.
Can’t wait for part 3 but intermission was really good so I wouldn’t mind!
They should have done DLC for the PS5 Pro and then released part 3 with DLC to follow for the PS6.
@Bez87 yea and the hobbit was a relatively short book compared to the more in depth LOTR books.
I'm final playing Part 1 PS5 version since it's free with PS+ but I've kept it off for years until now and I'm enjoying it. I do actually love the extra bits in it like when going the Air buster you sabotage its weapons etc to make battle easier.
The only gripe is the corridor parts there's a lot of them
Now the question is if SE is going to pay Sony to end the contract and release this games in other platforms on day 1 or they are focusing in releasing this as soon as possible so they can officially end the relationship and with their games on pc and xbox understand the reality of people not buying millions of FF copies on PC because they are more into turn based rpgs these days.
I have never been that into SE so I understand I'm part of the minority but I want PS to end this toxic relationship and invest in KT all the way lol.
Considering rebirth was a lot worse than the remake, putting some of the resources to the DLC was definitely a bad idea. I hope part 3 gives this trilogy a fantastic finale.
Saw a post where the piece of - that designed the trophy list for FF7 Rebirth made a formal apology for how bad it was and promised to do better for part 3. Maybe I’ll actually buy part 3 then. Devs need to learn to do their job and cater to their audience, not their own selfish whims.
I would've liked some DLC but I'm happy to wait for Vincent and Cid in part 3. It's going to be a seriously fantastic Trilogy when it's all done.
Can't believe this is still a talking point. They told us this would be the case way before Rebirth was released. Anything that gets part 3 in our hands faster is fine by me.
I did love Intermission though...
Good I still have not played the yuffie dlc and probably never will. I was already against the idea of splitting the game into 3 parts. Going into a bunch of tiny dlc branches along side the 3 parts would have just been awful
Queen's Blood anyone?
I found myself ignoring everything else to play
@GymratAmarillo Why would PS end the relationship with SE? That doesn't makes any sense.
Part 2 doesn’t really need any dlc, especially compared to part 1. You already had an entire storyline with Queens Blood and Gilgamesh also got basically his own storyline. Even if the tower defense mini game was by far the worst part of the main game, it just didn’t play right.
Sure, either Vincent or Cid could probably have gotten their own dlc, but there isn’t really all that much of the original games story left after part 2 ended so they could give each Vincent and Cid similar side quests to Queens blood and Gilgamesh in part 3 without the need for any dlc. FF7 was already done over 25 years ago, let’s not make this Kingdom Hearts any more than they already are.😂
I liked how Intermission gave time to flesh out the introduction of Yuffie and would have been nice with a similar one for say Vincent, but also, if this means that third part comes sooner, I'm all for that.
If it was Cait Sith DLC versus an earlier release for Part 3, I’d take Part 3 all day. Now, if it was Vincent DLC, that’s a different story…
Don't approve of dlcs for a game that is not finished. Release the last part and then think about adding dlcs after the story is complete.
Vincent Valentine has a long history in this universe dating back to before sephiroth being born and being with lucrectia and hojo they could add a lot for his story alone
Glad to hear this. Sometimes DLC can be worth it but more often I’d prefer the devs to focus on the next entry. Hopefully the wait for Part 3 won’t be too long.
I was actually happy to hear that Spider-Man 2 wasn’t getting DLC. I thought the DLC for the first game was mediocre and I’d rather them focus their work on Wolverine, Venom, Spider-Man 3, etc.
Remake's DLC was actually extremely forgettable, got the 100% this past June and couldn't tell you a thing about it. Glad Rebirth is a complete package
"We've decided that since sales of this game sucked so hard, we can't make any money milking it with DLC and thus will focus on the third installment of a single games' story so the trilogy everyone is actually waiting for can get to market within the same decade"
@NEStalgia Yeah and I wonder where all of Pushsquare's articles are about Veilguard telling us the sales sucked. I mean they did it constantly for Rebirth and that had 21% higher sales than Veilguard also Dragons Dogma 2 sales were 18% higher than Veilguard but not a peep from Pushsquare.
@MrMagic Yeah, the hype for Veilguard before and after release was indeed really weird proportionate to its actual popularity.
Doubt we'll see the third part, until after the release of PS6.
Next time they make a FF remake, they should make it ONE game.
With so much of a backlog it's rare that I refire a game to play a DLC. They should keep moving forward, as well.
